I really can't stand Ailyn's voice. It's not that she can't sing, it's just the kind of voice I really don't want to hear... of that sickly sweet kind, and still quite emotionless. If I have to listen to female-fronted Sirenia, I prefer Monika Pedersen's voice... though I prefer the oldest two albums in general, without the emphasis on the female voices.

Meanwhile, it is just like any other generic gothic metal band... though maybe with superior compositions.

To those of you interested or confused, Sirenia was started by Morten Veland himself, and he first writes the lyrics and composes all the music on his own and does recordings of the individual parts, then has whatever singer he chose for that album/song do her parts, and does his growls. The other band members are usually only present during live performances. He usually does half the songs on an album himself in the studio, but does occasionally use the other members during recordings.

@SoloDomoProductions So it's really not much of a band, then? Sounds more like a Morten Veland solo effort. It's good, but very interesting that he would choose to sell it as a band as opposed to what it is, especially considering that in a band the lead singer gets 90% of the attention unless the guitarist is legendary. Hmmm.... maybe he just doesn't want the fame... a man purely about the music. Awesome and rare.

Here's my comments about Sirenia's years. They begin as gothic metal underground band. And I can sense this totally, just like in the bottoms of the city for gothics. But they somehow change their style. Of course they kept it, but it wasn't really underground, it was more cold dark. And at this moments, despite having Veland's guitare riffs, they seem to keep the change style, but more lighter. And thats why I said that Henriett Bordvik is the best. Or they sould've keep Fabienne (not session).

I much pefer Sirenia like this. Its much heavier and much more melodic. Ailyn makes Sirenia sound a bit too much like Indica. Not that she can't sing but she sounds very I don't know less heavy.

@TheLegendOfZelda100 The thing is, Morten selects a different singer himself each album to provide the sound he wants for the songs. That's why the other band members are only present during live performances. He decided Ailyn would sound best for the 13th Floor, which I think she does. Each album has a different mood. An Elixir for Existence definitely has a more eerie, celestial sound.

Morten is not doing the clean vocals. Melodic vocals were made by Kristian Gundersen.

This song is awesome, and it's also from the times in which Sirenia was a good band... but those times are sadly gone...

@SoloDomoProductions I disagree. The first two albums Sirenia albums are perfect, afterwards they've become worse. I actually like Nine destinies and a downfall because Monika's voice. Now, with Ailyn, their music is even weaker. Her voice is flat, without any emotion or passion. Plus, that the songs are not good anymore. Now they sound like anyother female fronted symphonic metal band.... I dislike Sirenia nowadays and Ailyn, sorry to say.

Well, I listen to Evanescence too... HaHaHa!!! anyway, I know what you mean: a lot of little girls nowadays listen to some pop metal mainstream bands, and they call it "gothic metal", or "symphonic metal"...

Real gothic metal is Theatre Of Tragedy (first three albums), not Sirenia with Aylin or Monica... those girls can't sing!!

Sirenia was amazing when Morten was the main singer.
