i have had this same fan for 4 years now and it's doing fine. just got a phenom ii x4 925 that runs stock at 200x14 mhz (2.8 Ghz) oc'd the fsb to 250mhz with same multiplier (3.5 Ghz) and i am idling at 32 degrees Celsius and on load at 47, which is fantastic for an air cooler.
I bet you installed this thing incorrectly, those temps are just unreal for an aftermarket high end cooler. Stop making overkill intros for badly rendered videos and instead learn how to properly install heatsinks...
Im sorry, but those numbers may have been correct for you, but those are not the temps this cooler normally works at under load. I would recommend this 9700 to anyone looking for a really nice heatsink and fan for a decent price. The reg 9700 is only $46 atm.
@atalis1 Well if you go to the details section of the Newegg page for this device it clearly states that it does. So its either a problem with the manufacturer, Newegg or the consumer.
stress test for 6 hours on 100% load? yeah, just about any air cooler it's size wouldn't be able to keep the CPU below 70 degrees... try a bigger size or water - cooling. Also benchmarking is virtually pointless because you probably will never use 100% of your Quad Core processor in your lifetime, for 6 hours. Most people who benchmark only do it for 1-2 hours I believe lmao
The original came with a manual dial to change the fan speed, this one just plugs into your mother board and adjusts itself if needed depending on the temp, its more automated.
@pkerry12 the NT version i believe is a 4 pin connection to a motherboard, for those motherboards that have bios level software to change the fan speed based on cpu temp. the regular one, which i believe is all copper, is just a 3 pin connection. I ordered the NT version with a new tube of thermal paste (arctic silver 5) to put on my quad core next monday, because my cores are at 80 idle
@D4reko Difference between "normal" and black one is that the black one got some chemicals on it so it doesn't oxide(copper breaks down to sand/dust particles). Or we could just call it rust.
@D4reko They are the same in dimension and cooling capabilities the NT uses a green led & a PWM Fan (pulse width modulation) to control the speed automatically, The standard uses a blue led and supplies you with the fan mate 2 speed controler, I started off with the 9700 but my system changed and the new mobo had black heasinks so I got the 9700 NT and put the other one in my missus pc :o)
But. The Zalamn is pure copper. having paint on it would affect it's performance..... is this one made from different material>? I know he said its copper but copper isnt black....
i think its made out of some nickle and steel, then they run it through some chemical baths to darken the metal. its not even really back, its more of a very dark chrome
i was gonna buy this but in norway this costs 650KR (108.33$) and i saw CoolerMaster V8!!! its awsome its huge and its super effectiv and the price was 685KR (114$) lol its fk worth the 6 more dollars! Buy it! the best CPU cooler.. i got AMD Phenom II x4 940 3ghz @ 3.5ghz and still on 20-45 Celsius! :')
it just blow the hot air from the processor not like liquid cooling it cool the processor by the conduction the best way to cooling but these fan still cool.
Lmao clearly he has done something wrong. I have a Q9450 and a Zalman 9700. Q9450 @3.8Ghz Max I've hit is 65c with prime 95 Small and Large (TJMAX 100)
Shit even 6 hours straight 90 is way fucked up, even with the room temperature factored in. I have the exact same cooler and processor i OC mine to 4.0ghz and it idles at 40-45 load 55-60 and i play L4D, F.E.A.R, Oblivion, Mass Effect and C.O.D 4 for hours on end. It Spiked once 60 but not 90 not ever. If i ever saw anything above 60 with an after market cooler installed, I would not purchase the product.
Something definitely isn't right; my (dust-clogged) Zalman 9700 NT keeps my e6600 OCed to 3.6 GHz at 55-60C under Orthos/Everest with 24C Room temp.
Perhaps it's the airflow in your case? I myself use an Ultra Aluminus with 1x Antec 120mm in the front intake, 1x Antec 120mm rear exhaust, and 1x Antec 80mm side panel intake.
man if your cpu got that hot you seated it wrong because thats absolutely the most horrible temps ive ever seen hell my q9400 with the stock intel fan doesnt get that roasty
the Cpu that was tested with this was a Q9550 quad core 2.83ghz over clocked to 3.6ghz with that fan. And the cooling of that fan after 6 hours spiked my cpu to those high temps. for me professional water cooling kit gets me to 3.6ghz at 60 degrees running at 100%. So yeah its not how I have sited the fan its the fan its self not good for overclocking.
man im glad i watched this cuz even that overclock shouldnt produce those kind of temps what board and case are you useing i was going to buy a zalman but after watching this ill go with acfrezzer 7 pro way cheaper i have one in my other pc keeps my e6600 real chilly
Yeah I didn't actually buy this i was just asked to test it, but Umart in Brisbane provided this to me to test, so I am no sure if there is a Umart in Melbourne. there is a place called PC gear that will most likely have it, thats in Melbourne as far as i know
it sure is, but serisously this cooler is only good if you have a room at is as cool as 20 C or less. the tests for this cooler were conducted in a room that was 27 C thats why the temp went up in to 90C for stress tests. keep in mind that was the cpu running at 100% for 6 hours straight.
you should turn it on to see how is the nois

the Intel Q9550 quad core uses a higher voltage to run at 3.6ghz so you can't compare your e6600 to it
