@AtheistCitizen Difference is that the followers of Thomas (reviled by the Catholics and Protestants as a heretic) were converts of their own will, whereas in Goa they were largely forced conversions. When the portuguese first invaded Goa they slaughtered much of the population and the remainder where forced into submission. Similarly many of the Syirian church of Kerala where oppressed by early colonial powers.

Even how Caste and Reincarnation are approached are hugely different within the schools of Hinduism. There are some who reject Idol Worshipping all together (Arya Samajh). There are some who accept the Trinity(Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwar). There are others who accept neither and accept only Krishna(ISCON). There are yet others who reject the concept of Brahman(God in rough terms)- Carvakas.

Nice video. I feel with all the current drama, Hinduism kind of gets lost in the shuffle and not really discussed. Probably because they don't try to impose their beliefs on others :) Regardless, it's an interesting religion, though I don't believe in it or any other.

@zodiakranch Yep. Hindus and Buddhists alike don't really care if anyone else believes like they do. One thing I forgot to say, Hindus do use an ancient holy text as a guideline, called the Bhagavad Gita, along with some truley ancient texts called Rig Vedas.

@AtheistCitizen Yes, I mentioned the Vedas. And, it is true that there is no unifying concept or central deity in Hinduism. The only thing that unifies them is that they are Hindu. It's a very complex religion, with tons of gods manifesting themselves in different forms.

They do the ultimate in cherry picking, with diffeent sects using different texts and worshiping differnt gods as their main god. I wasn't sure how it worked so I didn't get into it in this vid. @zodiakranch Yes and also the Varna (which spanish and Portuguese called "Casta" according to their own racial divisions in the colonial era) is the true name for stratification of human society (Hinduism) is mentioned in the Bhagaviad Gita as being determined by ones Nature. It never states by birth. Infact only the Smritis (derived scripture) makes that statement and not Sruti (that which is revealed or heard). Hence there have been many Bhakta movements against caste division.
