Hi, I'm very interested in the new Patriot but have some doubt about its ground clearance. Is is really going to be at least decently good off road? What is the ground clearance exactly?
I have the Patriot CRD in the UK and like it a lot. The Euro Highway figure is 52.2mpg and with mixed driving it's currently doing about 44mpg. It has 140bhp and 229lbft torque. I also have a 2006 Cherokee (Liberty in USA) for light off road work and pulling trailers. The Patriot is a far better drive on road but that's were it's staying.
Let's look at DaimlerChrysler history! It was the same platform as the dodge neon, to the PT Cruiser, and then to the jeep compass, that led to the dodge caliber and now the Jeep Patriot! Jeep needs to break off in a different corporation!
Showerlady99, Every Car Company shares Platforms! I've noticed you are on every Jeep Patriot Video with same exact statement. so which Car Manufactuer do you work for? I think Chrysler may have a Hit with one! Looks Great, Low Price, Good Gas Mileage, Warranty,etc..
Umm, wasn't Caliber available before Compass? Yeah, Mausome is right. EVERY auto maker shares platforms/chasis across different models, and GASP other companies...some mods and tweaks here and there can make drastic changes
Let me just say that I own the original XJ Cherokee, and I like this new Patriot. I like the idea of getting 25mpg in a Jeep, and I like the value that this model offers for under 25K. People act like this new trucklet somehow is competing with the XJ when the reality is that it competes with gutless RAV4's and CRV's. This will drive past their shattered carcasses off-road, and you can buy a Wrangler Rubie if you REALLY need to scale rocks. The Compass is the disappointment- not the Patriot.
Yes, it is surprising. I didn't expect this Euro-Jeep to have that effective of off-road capabilities. Fairly impressive, but still not as good as a Cherokee.
I'm getting a Patriot next year, can't wait. This jeep rocks.

It's not as good offroad as serious off-roaders, but it is pretty competent off-road, and the best offroad in it's class. (Crossover SUV)
