I've got a 2.3 and when floored it shifts into second at 46-7 MPH and 3rd at 69-71, why is the gearing so diffrent? Granted diffrent engines, but mine has less power.
OK well first of all, the 2011 4 cylinder escape has a 2.5L 4 cylinder, the 2.3 was replaced for 08 I believe. I guess the gearing is just different as both engines have a 6 speed auto.
@puremaplesyrup22 Trust me you are glad you have a 2.5 instead. The 2.3 in my dad's 2006 Escape is terribly underpowered. If you have the A/C on, it will almost stall from a start. It is also a 5-speed manual.
@NattDogg01 I've now driven a 2.3 in a 2008, it was alright, super high reving and loud... Was quick for the weight and engine output I thought. They need a V8 Special Edition, with the new 5.0 engine in it...
I just got a 2011 4WD Limited with the V6 and it's a little tiger! Now try running E85 in it and see what happens. It adds 10 HP to 250 HP. I have tried it and even though it cuts economy it makes it even quicker. For the person wondering about the shift point at 6,500 RPM. That isn't an issue with the Duratec 30. It's made for that kind of RPM. It loves being revved.
Typically DOHC or SOHC engines are capable of high rpms. You must be used to OHC (pushrod) motors, those type of motors typically cannot withstand high rpms
@xoquixxoqafxo thats why im scared to do a full-throttle run in my moms caravan it has the OHV 3.8L (altough it has advance tech) but im afraid to do it,tho, my neon is SOHC so i floor the living shit out of it and its the best
@xoquixxoqafxo the only time i see that to be true is in Jap cars. when it comes to american cars they seem to all shift at the same RPM's. take my 3800 push rod 6 from my grand prix vs this escape. the escape shifts at 6500 RPM's while my 3800 shifts at 6200 RPM's. When it comes to american motors the pushrod does just fine, only in the Jap market would it fail horribly, But thats just me... i guess im just stuck in the 80's with my Crossfire and Port Tuned Injection motors. =D
yeah the V6 is def worth the extra cash, I also don't feel like you will take that big a hit in gas mileage bc you won't have to push the engine as hard in the 4 cylinder
@xoquixxoqafxo Do you know how much a trade in would cost me? I have a 2009 xlt. The 4 cylinder is really jerky and for some reason I didnt realize it when I was demoing it. I just assumed it was okay and since it could save money I wasnt as careful as I shud've been. I guess I learned my lesson.
Depends on the mileage of your 09 and the trim level and what trim level you want on a V6 model. Check out cars.com and look at kbb.com to find out the value of your old escape
yeah too bad they still dont handle very well. Steering feels artificial and disconnected from the road, its also way to light and it feels a little too tipsy in turns, yes i know its an SUV but the CRV handles better although its much slower.
@xoquixxoqafxo They don't handle well because FORD decide to make them driveable like a little truck and not like a car. Go Drive elsewhere that in town and you'll see that they drive better than the CR-V or the Rav-4
They are definitely peppier now compared to the older models. 2009 and up models got 40 more horsepower and a six speed auto that really opened it up. The old ones were really weak.
My wife had a 2003 escape 4x4 with the v6, now she has a 2010 escape, the new one blows the old one away in terms of acceleration and comfort

I so wish that this model (V6 + 6 speed) made it to Australia instead of the sucky 4 speed + 4 cyl.

I have a 2.0L 4 cylinder manual escape. That thing is a DOG! I want one of the new 3.0. That looks nice (and quick!)

What year is your Escape? In 2009 Ford replaced the dated 4 speed auto with this 6 speed auto.

@xoquixxoqafxo The window sticker says 2.3...

@puremaplesyrup22
that must be a typo then lol bc on Fords website it says 2.5L engine. The 2.3 was retired and the 2.5 replaced it a couple years ago.
