@antisanity 1. Take apart external hard drive 2. Take out internal hard drive 3. insert external hard drive in the computer 4. install ubuntu on external hard drive 5. place external hard drive back in the case 6. boot off external hard drive
wow!!! removing the internal hard drive!!! how could i not think about that? :( last year i screwed it all up on my laptop. had to reinstall vista all over again cuz i couldn't recover it.
WOW, DID YOU JUST MAKE A VIDEO OF YOU FAILING? ok so you didn't do this right. you need to install grub onto the exeternal drive asswell which you'll find the settings in advanced options. you'll have to create a root directory as well. you suck!
I followed all the steps and when i come to boot i am ficed with the grub command line and i do not know any commands. I am new at this. How do i get ubuntu to load up?
@antisanity13 Hey. Sorry for your difficulties. I can only give you a few suggestions, but first I have a question. First of all, did you look up grub commands and try some of them out? For example, try typing "boot". If this does not work, respond. This may be permanent, I am afraid. I am familiar with Ubuntu to an extent, but if all else fails, install OpenSUSE. It is the same procedure, except you want to download and burn OpenSUSE. It is another Linux distribution that is much like Ubuntu.
:( getting error: file not found
grub rescue>

it would've been nice to actually try to boot into Ubuntu after you have installed it so we could see if it works or not :D
