this is one series that deserves the DVD box set collection- but still not offered- If you have access to the multi-cast channel Antenna TV- this Monday 5/30/11 the show premieres M-F with 2 episodes a day- can't wait- get the DVR and Disc's ready!

When the show became a weekly filmed series in 1952, Carnation continued to be its primary sponsor. But an "alternate sponsor" was needed, and B.F. Goodrich filled that spot, from 1952 through '57, 'mama'. Then, General Mills (for its Betty Crocker cake mixes and other products) replaced Goodrich as "alternate sponsor", continuing through the end of the series in 1958.

In their first filmed season, George & Gracie continued to appear in front of a curtain at the end of the episode (as on the live programs). The following season, though, they dropped the idea of a "stage" setting, and did their goodnights from the "front door" setting. Then, in late 1954, George decided he and Gracie would recreate their "double routines", in front of a curtain, at the end of the show- and did this for the rest of the series.

Leonard previously appeared as a similar gangster {"Johnny Velvet"} in a live episode the previous season. At the end of these episodes, Harry Von Zell introduced the "alternate sponsor's" message ["this week", it was Carnation], then George & Gracie returned for a brief curtain call before saying "goodnight".

The gangster character was portrayed by Sheldon Leonard,yeah that Sheldon Leonard who went on to produce some of the greatest TV shows of all time like

"The Andy Griffith Show", "Make Room For Daddy",and "The Dick Van Dyke Show".

This series deserves a first-rate DVD release -It doesn't get any funnier.
