Beautiful person and singer she is BUT she should have never re-done this song in this version. I'm sorry, but, in My opinion, this is just un-necessary - some songs should just be left alone - lol :)
@CartoonsAndGameShows MTV didn't like the official vid, thought it's audience at the time might find it offensive --she "crucifies" herself on the body of her male dance partner and has a somewhat ecstatic expression on her face--or too "arty."
This is the footage MTV played in the US, as the video for this song. I remember because this was how I was introduced to Kate Bush, all those years ago.
@RealVerdad Yeah!!! that only shows how old you are, HA!!! and i was introduced to kate, with `wuthering Heights` in 1978 still remember that night, and i also watched this performance that night, this is still one of my favorite songs ever, i was hoping `Haley Reinhart` of American idol, would perform this!!!
Man, you ain't lying. I can't believe I first listened to this song over 25 years ago. I guess it's because when you like something for so long it becomes a part of you.
Even though it's lip-synced I prefer it to the official video. It's the video I saw when the song first came out so it's always the one I think of when I hear the song. Love it!
@SpankRamen2 I agree, and I only discovered it a year ago. The only song that can contest it is John Lennon's Imagine. And even that's a maybe. This song is just mesmerizing, every element, every instrument, you can listen to each indidvidually and it's like your ears are in heaven.
I THOUGHT this was the first time I saw Kate Bush, but it turned out that the Red Dress Version of Wuthering Heights was. I just didn't know who the "mad woman" was.
I saw this version on MTV and was hooked. And then, the other version was on the playlist. It wasn't until Google and YouTube that I got to see it again. Thanks for the post!
I recorded this off the telly that night. It was part of the promotion for the single. Of course, its mimed. Nice to see it again. Kate was particularly affecting, since she was not able to move around too much, relying on her facial gestures, as if delivering a lecture or giving a speech from the podium. It was the first time on telly and it simply stunned
okay, so she's lip-syncing. No denying it. But I remember being a kid in rural New York and this was the first I ever saw of Kate Bush -- I was completely mesmerized. I have never forgotten the jolt of discovering profound beauty and have enjoyed her in my life for 20+ years now. So glad to find this video on a overcast day -- ahh, nostalgia.
Kate rarely sings live... to find her singing live, I recommend you look at some of her earlier music. Her Wuthering Heights Live rendition on Top Of The Pops was very different to the original, as was her 1982 live The Wedding List. The production of her songs makes it very difficult for her to perform them live. This is a lip-synched performance.
@CHFCooper Of course it's not a live recording. I saw this version on MTV and was hooked. And then, the other version was on the playlist. It wasn't until Google and YouTube that I got to see it again. Thanks for the post!
It is the album version, she is lipsynching... meaning she is mouthing the words live on stage. This is very common for Kate Bush. She rarely did live performances.
@CHFCooper She only had one concert tour, in 1979. I saw a clip of this when Kate was named #46 on VH!'s list of the 100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll.
That`s really good music. She is an natural and real talent!

Unlike Mr. Molko, she does *not* shit in her pants while singing.

This is the video that MTV played. Interesting when they could've easily played the actual video that was made for the song. Interesting....

@WVVan1 Same here. I can't recall MTV ever playing the official video in the 80s. They seemed to always play this.

This has been my favorite KB song since I was 4 years old. Personally, I think this has to be one of the BEST songs EVER written & recorded!
