  • i love everything about this game. i remember that my best friend at the time had this on his nes and we played it alot.

in later years i noticed that there is a version for the sega master system, turbographx16 and a version for the genesis/megadrive called super fantasy zone. does anyone know if there is any difference between the versions?

  • @LiveToby

Hey! First of all thanks for checking out the video!

Now, Super Fantasy Zone is a totally different game, its a sequel. So that has some other levels and bosses and tunes all together!

However, there are a lot of ports of this game for a lot of different systems as well. Some of those ports, like for the Master System, i believe, things like the radar at the bottom of the screen was missing. Other had some other bosses, and the Sharp X68000 version had a really cool special level!

  • @TanukiKGA

  • @LiveToby

Sorry that I couldnt tell you that much about Super Fantasy Zone, but I never got around buying that one! But maybe in the future! :)

  • it's great to see that the number of views is growing in time =). Hope you'll reach the top someday ;)

  • Thanks man :) But its not about the numbers :) I will always be happy as long as its awesome people like you and the rest of the gang who are watching this stuff, :)

  • I see this a lot... and haven't had the guts to get it yet. I don't know why. Looks like I'll just have to get it next time.

  • Well, those black and blue unlicensed carts IS usually a bad sign, even though the Wisdom Tree games are by far the worst of the bunch! Tengen actually made some nice stuff! Come on, they made the best Tetris for the NES :D

  • My brother used to play the SMS one all the time, he was addicted to it, hated fantasy zone II though.

but you can kill nearly all the bosses with a well placed heavy bomb by flying over them,

  • Yes, I've noticed that! Especially the the one with all the lasers. Somehow I managed to take out a lot of them with one shot though! The heavy one is really useful for the last boss, if used correctly :)

  • Indeed, the final boss gets so fast towards the end, it's almost impossible to beat him without one!

  • It's nice that I can check back through your videos when I really have some relaxation time to find some great games to try out. Though I don't think I've seen many games other than action-types from you, now that I think about it :o

  • Oh, I did have some puzzle game videos a while! And one of those will hopefully be remade some day. As well as a certain boardgame review ;) But yeah, it usually is shooters or platformers. I would like to talk about rpg's and stuff, but getting the footage for something like that could really take weeks :/

  • Right on I love Fantasy Zone! I used to play it in the arcade all the time and I still play it on MAME every now and then. Very cool video man!

  • Yeah, its really an awesome game :) Its one of the games for the saturn that I play the most. With the arcade stick, its really not that far from the real deal ^^

  • Tanuki, are you interested in getting an American NES or Japanese Famicom? Just curious.

  • I actually own both of 'em :)

I usually do my stuff on my modded american unit, but for some odd reason I went with my original NES from when I was three years old for this one ^^ When I do fami-vids I do them using an adapter, since the fami doesnt have rca-cables which I need to capture the video. I used to have a Sharp Twin Famicom which was great, but that one broke :/

  • Ah yes the Sharp Twin Famicom!! I believe I watched one of Lukemorse1's videos about it.

Even though it broke you must be lucky to have one of these coz I believe these were pretty cult and expensive too.

  • Yeah, its cost quite a bit. I have to get me one of those again though, I have a bunch of disk system games that I want to talk about! ^^

  • Som vanligt väldigt proffsigt gjort

  • Tackar! :)

  • Great video as always Johan! I did not know that there was a Sunsoft version of FZ? You should maybe do a video of that version sometime.

  • If I get hold of it, I will be sure to put it up :)

The flyers for the arcade said that the game was by sunsoft, and apperantly Super Fantasy Zone was completely made by Sunsoft! But I would like to get my hands on the fami-port they made :)

  • Sega must "loaned" the title to Sunsoft to make.

Yeah i think a video comparing and talking about how the versions are different would be neat.

  • I love this game! thanks for the review.

  • No problem what so ever :) Its a great game!

  • i still need to get this for the nes. i remember in my childhood seeing this game in the arcades and the colors stood out so much ill never forget it . it was liek seeing pac-land for the first time after all the older arcade games. i have the tg-16 version thats it.

  • Its not as colourful as the arcade, but compared to other shooters on the system, I really can't think of one that stands out more!

    Nice! How's taht version?

  • its pretty colorful. i saw a sega mark 3 version also it has part one and 2 on it. i guess its the master system also. there all really colorful but as a early genesis game it stoood out also. i think it did on every system !

  • Indeed! I would really like to look through all the Sega games after references to this game and Opa. It seems to pop up every now and then, and i think it all started with Space Harrier ;)
