so i'm an American and an avid NFL fan. i want some football to watch in the offseason, so i decided to follow the CFL. my only problem is who to cheer for. persuade me Canada.
Cfl drafts on Abilitty the NFL drafts on Athleticism, measuerables(i.e. combine shit) and potential ability. Athletiscism matters in the cfl but not as much as the nfl. NFL players are more athletic because of what they do at the size they are. You will never see a Vernon Davis in the CFL, and if you do he's wide reciever and he's 215lbs . I like that the CFL because they're great Football players, good athletes just undersized, and its fun to watch them play

I am a huge fan of both leagues (Go Eskis, Go Cowboys). Athletically the CFL is just as good as the NFL, the difference is that the average NFL player is taller and weighs more while maintaining the same athleticism. This is why the CFL is much more of a north/south game. The CFL is a fun and exciting product, but the fact is bigger money will bring bigger talent, and the majority of American players in the CFL went undrafted or knew they wouldnt be drafted in the NFL.

Ken Dorsey (an NCAA star) never took a snap in the CFL. He was cut in training camp. Doug Flutie was an all-star player in the CFL, became a Pro-bowl player in the NFL, and would very likely have won the superbowl with Buffalo, had they not benched him in the playoffs.
@brunoxrs Let's not forget the Ricky Williams experiment, which while his stats did improve in the more wide open Canadian game, he averaged 4.8 yards/carry. Had he played the entire 18 game season, he was on track to end up with 1300 yards rushing...good enough to net him 3rd in the league that year. Even he stated that "the talent was comparable" to the NFL. He didn't say equal, but comparable. He stated the difference was consistency. HIS words, not mine.

In a world that calls soccer "football" we shouldn't be running around pissing on other football leagues. I think the CFL should have more notoriety in America. After all, the NFL and CFL exchange players constantly. I'm an NFL fan, but I don't see any reason to put down the CFL. They are the second largest football league in the world. I think it's great that Canadians have their own league. No one should have to live more than a few hundred miles from their favorite team.
Thing about CFL over NFL is that the Players that are over here play for the love of the game. Don't get me wrong, some great players in the NFL play because they love it. @jeffss04 It's a valid rule because it makes the game strategic, for example if you are down by six and the ball is punted into your end zone should you knee and take the ball with good field goal position and go down by 7 (losing the opportunity to win with TD + PAT) or bring it out and likely get worse field position, it just so happens that the rules allows for those types of situations to happen.

In my opinion, the CFL is better than the NFL because its faster paced. The offense has to gain 3 yards/down opposed to 2.5 yards/down. Also, the shootout overtime concept is better than the coin-flip.
Im' American and honestly Football is Football..don't see much of a diff between american game and canadien game. Only difference is length of field,3 downs,FG post at goal line...anything ive missed?....

I was watching the closing ceremonies for the olympics last night and although the Canadiens did a great job I noticed at the end when they were presenting what Canada is known for (hockey, the beaver, Mounties etc) they forgot a very important part of their history which was the CFL!
The CFL is a valid league. It is rich in tradition and excitement and I can't understand for the life of me how they can show a "beaver" and a bunch of Mounties but not the CFL. Not even a logo.

Most Canadians will never see a polar bear or beaver in their life seeing as 90 percent live in cities. It was basically for the kids and for tourism. @mrfwest You obviously don't actually know a thing about the Canadian Football League. Cleo Lemon was in the CFL for a year and a half, and never really adjusted to the game. Ken Dorsey (an NCAA star) never took a snap in the CFL. He was cut in training camp. Doug Flutie was an all-star player in the CFL, became a Pro-bowl player in the NFL, and would very likely have won the superbowl with Buffalo, had they not benched him in the playoffs.

@brunoxrs Let's not forget the Ricky Williams experiment, which while his stats did improve in the more wide open Canadian game, he averaged 4.8 yards/carry. Had he played the entire 18 game season, he was on track to end up with 1300 yards rushing...good enough to net him 3rd in the league that year. Even he stated that "the talent was comparable" to the NFL. He didn't say equal, but comparable. He stated the difference was consistency. HIS words, not mine.

@jeffss04 It's a valid rule because it makes the game strategic, for example if you are down by six and the ball is punted into your end zone should you knee and take the ball with good field goal position and go down by 7 (losing the opportunity to win with TD + PAT) or bring it out and likely get worse field position, it just so happens that the rules allows for those types of situations to happen.

In my opinion, the CFL is better than the NFL because its faster paced. The offense has to gain 3 yards/down opposed to 2.5 yards/down. Also, the shootout overtime concept is better than the coin-flip.

Im' American and honestly Football is Football..don't see much of a diff between american game and canadien game. Only difference is length of field,3 downs,FG post at goal line...anything ive missed?....

I was watching the closing ceremonies for the olympics last night and although the Canadiens did a great job I noticed at the end when they were presenting what Canada is known for (hockey, the beaver, Mounties etc) they forgot a very important part of their history which was the CFL!
The CFL is a valid league. It is rich in tradition and excitement and I can't understand for the life of me how they can show a "beaver" and a bunch of Mounties but not the CFL. Not even a logo.

@Bigdaddyjobba , Canadians thought the closing ceremonies were a joke on par with what an Aussie thinks of crocodile dundee. Most Canadians will never see a polar bear or beaver in their life seeing as 90 percent live in cities. It was basically for the kids and for tourism. CFL and NHL are more representitive of the people.

@Bigdaddyjobba , oh ya, and Logos of any team or league are prohibited by the IOC, thats why Team Canada had different jerseys for hockey. IOC is trying to protect the integrity of amateur sport ( rolls eyes).
