How are you gaining stupid amounts of momentum in mid-air? Something seems really off-base here. Can you explain this? Are you using skills or something?
I should have looked at the video title because I realized that this is from Generations the second after I made that comment. Duh to me. XD
I know that City Escape is the first level in Sonic's storyline in Sonic Adventure, and it's actually one of my favourite stages in the game. I think my favourite is Radical Highway though because I like Shadow better than Sonic.
@ShadowStar1224 You mean after I killed that enemy and spindashed? It seems to happen more when I do a full speed spindash, but I think it might be random.
idk man, an exploit like this kind of ruins it for me.
It's kind of like that one guy glitching over SA2B's City Escape, he skipped the entire running down the building part and like, bam, instant speed run material.
@chirijaraiden It's something people don't really appreciate. It's way harder to do runs using exploits and glitches than it is beating it normally. People don't seem to realize how long it took me to get this whole thing right, and still it isn't even that good. Any speedrun is like that, but one using hard glitching and exploits like this in quick succession is rediculous.
@SFtheWolf Thanks, but I there was no glitch useage. The Blast Effect is merely exploiting an oversight of the Hedgehog Engine, and actually, I have a theory that it was intentionally left in. Otherwise, no severe glitches or stage breaking while I was playing. Also, I enjoyed your Seaside Hill run.
@XBladenoJutsu No, that is most definitely a glitch. "Blast Effect" is a made-up name for an obvious input error affecting the physics in unintended ways.
"an oversight of the engine" Is practically the definition of a glitch. Also the Hedgehog Engine refers primarily to the graphics so that doesn't really apply. I'm pretty sure they would never leave a bug this game-breaking in and not even deal with the geometry streaming issues it creates.
@SFtheWolf The name "Blast Effect" comes from the Genesis days and "Blast Processing" and how sonic literally "Blasts" across the screen. A name that may have been made up, but actually put thought into it would seem.
Oversight doesn't typically imply a glitch. Glitch imo is a very heavy term and something as small as the Blast Effect would simply be a small bug. The Hedgehog Engine is a graphical and lighting engine and it does effect the physics as well, and the bug comes from Unleashed.
@SFtheWolf Yes, but what I mean is, I don't like to call it Glitch personally. I think "Glitch" and say, "Holy crap, this guy is about to clip into the ground and zip to the end of the stage at lightspeed", but all that happens is he skipped a certain section that loads an event to save time and I facepalm. I see the Blast Effect as a small bug, ofc using said bug in certain areas can cause some havok, but that's another story. Idk, it's just how I think of things.
@SFtheWolf Now, the reason I said they might have kept it there is because I am highly sure they knew of it in Unleashed and early Generations Demos, but they kept it there but just altered the way you do it to be way harder. It was said that Generations was geared towards speedrunners as well. That really makes one wonder why the Blast Effect still exists now. Why didn't they take it out? Hell, they could even apply a patch in an update but they don't. This is why I say it might be intentional.
@XBladenoJutsu It probably exists now still despite being in the demo because:
A) There is an unhealthy attitude in the games industry that free patches after release is an unnecessary burden on your business model.
B) They possibly didn't actually know about it.
C) It was late enough in the console ports approval processes that they couldn't make further changes without pushing the release date back significantly (and were lazy about the PC version as usual).
@XBladenoJutsu I don't mean to say anyone shouldn't use it for the sake of speedruns by the way, I just don't believe it has a place in glitch-free runs.
damn you're good

What game is this from? It looks like Adventure 2: Battle, but I know it's not.

@Cereghini City Escape is indeed from Sonic Adventure 2. The very first stage where Sonic is riding down the street on a board.

Good job, but this "Blast Effect" is definitely a glitch.

I normally don't thumbs up glitch runs but this was too hilarious not to enjoy, good show.

@XBladenoJutsu I'm a software engineer. I can fully assure you that oversights in a software engine are glitches :p
