  • i love gikwang.

  • I have gotten this as a guitar-lesson-"homework". Waay too hard to play-along to this masterpiece!

  • I only watched the film because i knew this tune from people like Bill Evans playing it. It's now my favourite film of all time. I allow myself to watch it once a year so I don't wear it out. The song describes the film so well to me

  • @17rph93 I agree. This movie evokes so many emotions. I have to be in a certain mood for it because it's so brilliantly acted that it makes me want to cry sometimes when I see it. There is so much painful irony. Jack Lemon's character loves her but sort of goads her into drinking with him only to find that even though she isn't a drinker, she's overtaken by it. Still it's one of my all-time favorites.

  • @boomerang905 Agree you have to be in the correct mood for this film. Lee Remick's character is heartbreaking--trying to deal with her husband's alcoholism and his frustration w/ his job ends up dragging her down into the pit herself. This film hit a bit too close to home for a lot of moviegoers back then.

  • @1axalove ..you really do have to be decent mood. This and Paul Newman and Piper Laurie in the movie "Hustler", I have to prepare for mentally LOL. Since I love theme music so much, I'd like to add that the Hustler's theme is by Kenyan Hopkins and it used to make my brother and I almost cry...talk about beautiful and haunting.....Have a great day! : D

  • @boomerang905 Wow, haven't watched that one in a while- poor, doomed Piper. Thanks for the reminder! : )

  • How can anyone dislike this? Baffles me. Probably Bieber or Susan Black fans.

  • LA CANCION DA COMO PARA AMAR A TODO EL PLANETA EN CINEMASCOPÈ Y TECNICOLOR...POR SUPUESTO. ES MARAVILLOSA.

  • Perfection

  • Muita tranquilidade, é o que todos precisamos, nota mil

  • four kids disliked this masterpiece

  • @ryancesca Justin Bieber fans.

  • this music is the real expression of pure aand sweet LOVE

    sankitoelkiton

  • ¡¡ No tengo palabras...!!

  • Es muy bella melodía.......envuelve los sentidos.....

    Genial !!!

  • LINDA MELODIA DE HENRY MANCINI

  • seriously, reading comments on songs like this makes me damn proud to be a music fanatic,....ty all

  • @sirwob Nicely stated.

  • This is heavenly. Almost as if two good but tormented people could meet up in paradise and live an eternity together without the harshness of the world. That's the kind of thoughts good music evokes, thanks to a Mr. Mancini. Total romance and beauty.

  • They are not long, the days of wine and roses: Out of a misty dream Our path emerges for a while, then closes Within a dream.

  • Mr. Mancini's music is perfect. The Themes from "Peter Gunn", "Mr. Lucky", and this soundtack are probably my earliest recognitions of the music. My parents took us to see this film at the drive-in. Who knows?, Jack Lemon and Lee Remick? They probably thought it was a screwball comedy. We were all that innocent back then.

  • This is one of those beautiful pieces that brings back a bygone era and so many memories. Re: The Movie. Truly one of the most depressing films I've ever seen! It's one of those films that has great performances & writing & direction, but it's very ugly and discomforting to have to sit though, like "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" But unlike the latter film, as flawed as these characters were, I still liked them & felt sorry for them., and as sad as the ending is, it's very realistic!

  • I remember the impact this film had upon me. In spite of the tragic subject matter, the writing, acting and music were so superb that it was like an arrow through my soul... just an enduring treasure of good things.....

  • Truly, a beautiful song! Typical Mancini.....we miss you, Hank!!

  • Shoot, I have a track in my music collection I never had the title for and I couldn't name it! I think this is what it was! : )

  • Which album can we find this from?

  • :') Makes me feel like Sleeping Beauty

  • Hi Henri how are you today? This is what I am going through....SIKHISM:; why does religion have to go through God when Religion is supposed to be about GOD not about saving? Religion is for God Saving is for Jesus Christ unless you want it to be about God then it goes through Jesus and Jahova Saves.

  • Who perform this version of the song? (Not Henry Mancini, of course).

  • This version makes me cry :')

Smooth and full of emotions ... feels like I'm flying!!!

    Two thumb up!!

  • Time magazine said of this movie: " Remick on the rocks with a twist of Lemmon, an effective temperance lesson. " Mancini as usual is spot on!

  • I'm 17

and I think this is wonderful!!!!!!!

  • This is Mancini's greatest song. The lyrics are poetic as well. it's so strong that when I saw the original TV version of the play with Cliff Robertson and Piper Laurie, I "heard" this music, even though it hadn't been compsoed yet.

  • I remember watching this movie and thinking she's gonna make it!...everything is gonna be fine!!.....oh well, a lesson in reality I guess.

  • Mancini's best, most heart-felt composition.

  • Really makes me cry, longing for catharsis, all kinds of reunions, pleasures and harmonies.

  • This is the most beautiful song I ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • please help me to find this beautiful song, somehow???? PLEASEEEE!!!!

  • What a hauntingly lovely piece of music!! I remember going to the theatre when the movie was released and people just cried and cried at the end of it. Very, very sad; the music and lyrics capture the emotion of it all. Johnny Mercer & Henry Mancini....nothing finer!!

  • I saw this movie at the drive-in when I was a little kid. The part that really sticks with me is when Jack Lemmon couldn't find the booze and ruined his father-in-law's green house looking for the bottle that he had found. That one scene, plus my parents' upbringing, kept me away from alcohol. I am not a drinker and never have been. Of course, the ending was tragically sad when Lee Remick didn't want to stay with him. What an incredibly powerful movie.

    Oh yeah, great theme song!

  • I missed out on the golden age of mankind

  • Mancini wrote some of the most beautiful themes of all time. This was one of many!

  • Excellent movie and theme song--movie very sad, especially the

ending where the mother just walked away from her family, to

    alcohol.

  • Today it seems that this music was composed by someone from another planet.

A place far more advanced and with far more intimate knowledge of humanity.

  • Treasured and cherished.

  • I miss the works of Henry Mancini...a truly classy classy American composer.

  • Henry Mancini was one real good musician of all time,

  • The movie ending was very sad, to see the mother walk away from her young daughter, to a life of alcohol. Very realistic, though, even more today I would guess.

  • The most melodic tune i've ever heard. My Mother would put me down for my nap and she would put on the tube radio and I would sleep fro 11am to 1pm so she could clean house

  • beautiful music written by misters m and m, but if you want to hear the alltime rendition of this classic song you must open your ears to the DNA OF FRANCIS ALBERT SINATRA

  • Beautiful!

  • @Elias171 - Don't know how I missed this before, a friend shared this.

This style of music has always been my favorite since I was a child.

5000+ songs on my 425 music playlists let you listen for up to 2 hours to the sounds of ANY past year, so you'll hear this for 1962, the movie release year.

300 playlists honor specific genres and artists like Henry Mancini. Hope you'll have a listen, I'm trying to make my channel the best music source!

Thanks to the uploaders who make it possible!

  • yes this is is.....................

  • I can't believe it! I was introduced to this song thanks to Jaco Pastorius' version (very swinging, Bireli Lagrene on guitar...) I must say this is completely different but still it has got deep feeling!

  • What movie won for best movie that year? Who won for best actor/actress for that year also? Anyone knows?

  • Lawrence of Arabia won the Oscar that year.

  • I know a guy who was working as an engineer at A&M studios back in the early '70s, and he said that Henry Mancini was one heck of a guy. He said that Mancini really liked musicians, and sometimes he'd look at his watch and give 'em the go ahead to do another take just so the musicians could get paid more.

  • I was 14 years old when I took the subway train with a HS friend and we went to Radio City to see this unbelievable movie. The story is probably too "steep" for today's 14 year olds, and little did I know back then that life was such a "mix" of good and bad.

  • My mom loved this song. My parents lived the movie damn near. Just lost Dad Aug 10 2:21 a doesn't seem real. thx

  • The saddest part of this song and melody is that it brings me back to two of the most talented and attractive actors of those times, Lee Remick and Jack Lemmon. It still seems strange that these two beautiful-looking people are gone and the movie, my God, it was so haunting. Thanks for the post.

  • @9876543217303 OMG..I so echo your comments. America used to be so classy in the songs, movies, etc. Where has it all gone? I guess we still have some good here but I miss the old days of innocence and romance. I too am sad the great Jack L and Lee R are no longer with us. May they RIP. Peace through music.

  • @lotusbuds2000 And Henry Mancini...the greatest and the best composer..at least one of the best in that period...

  • @9876543217303 not to mention those beautiful lyrics by Johnny Mercer, just fabulous

  • @ThePiano1991 I'm glad that you told me the who wrote the lyrics. I was intending to look the writer up and Johnny Mercer was one of the greatest lyricists that ever lived. I'm not surprised! Thanks. 9876543217303. : )

  • @9876543217303 I agree with you, he was truly one of the best. I love the song 'Emily', his lyrics are so brilliant!

  • @9876543217303 Awesome piece of music, awesome movie....

  • @BeauJames59 ....sometimes I wish that some songwriters of today could take a little heed on what it takes to blend perfect music to a perfect movie with perfect actors. I also wish that DVDs weren't so available so that we could enjoy the Cinema and have a movie last in one for 3 months, not 3 days and then DVD lol. Have an enjoyable day! :D

  • @9876543217303 having those I care about in AA it's been a favorite for a long time...and yes they have a great sense of humor in those meetings

  • @kjsinftw They should have great senses of humor. It is a beginning to going in the right direction. More people should know themselves enough to take a step in a positive direction. That's the beautiful part. Have a great everyday! :D

  • @9876543217303 That was an awesome movie! Very moving.

  • very nice vid! hey everybody why don't you check out my response?

  • I loved this movie. Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick should have won best actor and actress. The movie was well done and had so many messages in it. It shows the ugly face of alcoholism and it came between two people who loved each other so much. It has a sad ending and I want a happy ending so much that I keep playing it over and over hoping for a happy ending but it hasn't happened yet. I just love Lee Remick and want her to get the help that she needs so that they can be a happy family again.

  • How I loved this movie very much! And both stars deserved their Oscar nominations. Jack Lemmon lost the Oscars to Gregory Peck for "To Kill A Mockingbird" and Lee Remick to Anne Bankcroft for "The Miracle Worker", all top notched actors and movies, I could pick them all as equal winners. However Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer walked away with the Oscars for Best Song, and I definitely agree. They don't make movies and songs like these anymore.

  • If I remember correctly, Jack Lemmon was nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in The Days of Wine and Roses.

  • The Pharcyde sampled this for "The Huste"

  • The most melodic soundtrack ever

  • it's very nice.....

near the end, it's peace and almost romance....

  • Great movie, but the music sounded too schmaltzy in'64 and still does today. Maybe it's just the arrangement. This kind of stuff led to elevator music, one of the major causes of suicide, besides booze and sugar donuts, in the 60's.

  • Actually, I think the theme is quite progressive for its time and ultimately quite moving. The arrangement is clearly more of a concert arrangement, but the use of the song in the film is much more subtle.

  • I love this kind of schmaltzy tunes.

  • Same to me, Sasha :)

But I must say I prefer the arrangment they used in film...

  • Nice though this may sound, it sure sounds a lot more like The Boston Pops than Henry...
