I have always found that this particular effect is really about the illusion. The Magician/Assistant roles are not important. It is more of an equal partnership...with an underlying theme of bondage. LOL
Jen, while Houdini is MOST famous for his escape artistry, he indeed did BECOME famous because of this illusion. The one thing about this illusion that has confused me about it more than anything, is in this illusion, who is the magician and who is the assistant?

Well, when you look at it that way, I agree with you about the equal partnership thing. While the bondage does play a small, but significant role in the illusion, can't you also say that about most magic as well, especially when it comes to the bondage of women?
