Ottoman empire was different from the british and french empires in a sense that it did not colonize the territories it controlled. It was such a beautiful system. Arabs remained Arabs with their own culture. Turks remained with Turks with their own culture. Everybody had their own identity but remained united under Islam. It was not like France that tried to turn all Algerians into French speaking.

Its not a song, its a march. The name is Plevne marsi or Gazi Osman Pasa marsi. To commemorate the heroic army of Osman Pasa against the russians.

This song is called Plevne Marsi or in english the march of Plevne it was a city in russia and osman pasha tried to conquer lands from russia trew plevne because plevne was important so osman pasha goes with his soldiers outnumbered 5 to 1 and they fight so heavely and so strongly the russians only option was to try and hold osman pasha in plevne with his men , surrounding the nearby roads and blocking it so that no food and no water and no Ottoman reenforcements could come to plevne in the end

@TurkishMujahid so after the russians(+bulgarians) under command of General Skobolev realized that every military attack against ottoman occupied plevne was resulting in desasterous losses on russian side they decided to cut off all supply routes so that they could starve the ottomans and make sure no reinforcements come from Istanbul , after a while it succeeded and Gazi(warrior) Osman Pasha decided to exit plevne to safe the lives of his men , this exit was called Huruç operation in this ->

@TurkishMujahid operation Osman Pasha was shot and captured as prisoner of war by the russians , they took him to russia because the russian tsar wanted to meet the famous general who'm there forces had so much trouble defeating when they had more soldiers and better equipment and supplies , then they brought osman pasha in front of the russian tsar aleksandr and osman pasha wanted to give his sword to the tsar (it was normal if you lose a war or battle that you give your sword to the other )

Second, this music is prepared by the Turkish army choir with western instrumentals, no matterr what u say, Turkey is considered both European and Middle Eastern, and if u look at the context of the song(a battle in eastern europe) and how it sounds, u shouldve said European.

@ColinOfBarbaria asia minor is not turkey. i don't know whose idea was that to call it asia minor but the fact is asia minor or with the more common name anatolia is the widest part of turkey. you'd see the territories of the country on the european side, if you check the map. territories in europe were larger by the time this piece came up. and the piece is all about a war in bulgaria which was the land of ottoman. composition is based on non-religious events and not related with middle east.

@anu123km Yes you are right about the convertion thingy. This started with converted non-muslim childen, but after 17. century ; also muslims have been accepted into Jannisarry group.
And yes it doesnt justifies both. Actually i dont care Ottoman although i am Turkish, i dont try to convince people about this facts. But when you were saying "Christian people were second class in the Ottoman", try to add muslim people were the same in Europe. Therefore people may think in balance right ? :)

Ottoman empire was different from the british and french empires in a sense that it did not colonize the territories it controlled. It was such a beautiful system. Arabs remained Arabs with their own culture. Turks remained with Turks with their own culture. Everybody had their own identity but remained united under Islam. It was not like France that tried to turn all Algerians into French speaking.

@jusuf008 Ottomans were not a Muslim army. They never crusaded war to spread their religion. They took over the Islam when they reached the Mid-East regions. Ottomans come from Mid-Asia. So their origin isn't even Muslim at all. Their origins come straight from Genghis Khan, Atilla the Hun, Kubilay Khan, etc. And we Ottomans are damn proud of that.
