I am pretty sure crown eggshell is one the most expensive top of the range paints out there, I am sure most painters knows its not the best paint to apply and never looks like its covering properly on the first coat especially (well dulux anyway), but done properly and the result is good, but yeah more paint less liberal strokes. buy a 10 inch standard hand roller not every expensive and that area would look spot on!

Back to basics for you mate. Here is a reminder. Top to bottom, right to left. Apply a twelve inch stripe, cross hatch it and then lay off. Or indeed as thedriza suggested use a roller.
