Strictly speaking, it is the bass note that determines the inversion, not where the root it. Ist inversions simply have the 3rd degree as the bass note. 2nd inversions have the 5th in the bass. The upper voicings could be anything. What you are showing is "close position 3-note inversions" for the RIGHT hand. With the root note staying on the bass, they are all rreally root position chords, but the right hand is practicing inverted "voicings". But great teaching video!
i agreed with you art.......for those who want to due piano tutorials...should check this vid out....he gives out all the info in a full and concise manner...i hope mariocast continue to make tutorial with triad and 7, 13 chords, polychords..ect.
Thanks Mario! Even though I already knew this info, I really liked the way you pulled it all together in a neat, memorable little lesson. I'll work on that little exercise till my inversions are super smooth.
ahhh nice... ^^ great lesson to practice your inversions.. :P never thought of it this way.. i play by ear so it's always great to get tips like this.
Thanks!! I'm already practicing Clock , Apologize and today , I'll go for this one!!!. Excellent didactic skills, Mario. We like more songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks again
Bravo. Your video lesson is much better than the commercial videos I bought. The display of chords on the graphical keyboard is very helpful for beginners. You should market a video.
hey man i like that "jazzed" up thing you did and that's what Im really looking to master, jazzing up the left hand and adding more notes. Is there a science to adding notes like that? What would I search to find out more about jazzing yp the left hand?
I like the way you taught. It is really easy to understand and it is interesting. However, I don't have the digital piano liked yours, mine is just a simple Clavinova CLP930, do you know whether I can add some devices to make it more liked yours? Hope to hear from your comment soon! Thank you!
this is really good, the graphics help A LOT! I think it would be better though if you didn't blank the screen when changing the graphic of the root for the inversions. If the root faded into the inversion, it would be easier to see the common notes. I'm not sure if i made myself clear. Anyway, keep up the good work! A lot of people on youtube know their stuff but can't teach well.
stereo123: I actually understand what you're saying. It's a new bit of software that I'm playing with that allows me to display what I'm playing in real time. So in the future, I could probably do a bit of editing to make the connection between the chords a little clearer.
Thanks mario. I really enjoy your lessons. I've been playing guitar for 16 years and thanks to you piano for about 5 weeks. You've made a lot become clear to me.
Mario, I value all of this stuff that you're putting on - for people with the same skill level as me - who know how to play a few songs but lack the sufficient theory knowledge. Thanks again!
Great video, as always. Being a music arranger/composer/teacher myself, I have to say your instruction in this video is one of the clearest lesson I've seen any piano teacher give.
Mario, thanks so much for sharing your skills. I love your "keep it simple" technique, it offers tremendous opportunity to add ones own styling. As one who can not 'play by ear', I am especially appreciative. So glad I found you!
phallinangel: My 'play-by-ear' skills aren't that strong either. Knowing the triads and inversions allows you flexibility in playing chords more closely to one another without jumping around.
Firelcyas: Thanks! Hopefully with this new knowledge of chords, it will be easier when I talk about different chords in other pieces that I'll be teaching in future episodes.
You're welcome, powerizer1! I've been a bit busy, so I haven't been able to put out as many of these types of videos as I like to. But I'm hoping to pick up the pace this year.
cheers nice lesson!
