My Dad graduated a Cadet Colonel in 1948. He passed away last year, but I still have his boots, spurs and saber. The boots have stamped inside "Mr. A.A. Marston" and "5542 P-23" in the left boot, "5542 T223 inside the left boot, and also made by Holick's. My Dad's last name was Krueger, so he must have had these handed down to him? Who do I call or contact to get these back into use? They still have plenty of life left.
A&M Senior boots are made by a custom bootmaker in College Station Texas Holick's Boots. Cost about $700 and take more than a year to make. Also DEhner Boots from Nebraska are another authorized maker of these distinctive boots. There is extra stifners in the boot shafts to keep them from wrinkling so you cah always have a high shine on the shafts.
@Texijapi1010 Holick's and also Victor's in Bryan, Texas make the custom Senior boots. Last I checked, they're around $1000 - $1300 a pair, with the chains and spurs extra.
I completely agree with your comments but the Aggie Corps of Cadets rules say after you graduate from your Senior Year you never wear your boots again. Some Corps members display their boots and spurs in a glass display case others keep them in the back of their closets and still others donate their Senior Boots to the Corps Quartermaster service so other corps members can use them if they are not able to pay $700. for new custom boots.
In my times, one sold his senior boots after finishing with them -- since you were never to wear them again. One of my classmates kept his, and had them stored in a box under a bed in his parents' house.... when a Houston tropical storm flooded that house (and destroyed his boots) about 30 years later. It would have been better for them to have kept being passed down, it would have kept them alive.
I couldn't agree with you more about Aggie Seniors wearing their boots everyday of that special year. Did you keep your boots after graduation? I've seen display cases that look great with boots, cover and spurs laid out beautifully.
I recommend that every Aggie senior wear his/her boots EVERY day, because many years later, your senior year in the scheme of things will seem (voice of experience here) like it lasted about 10 minutes.
