with all respect to nadal the only reason he has stayed at number 2 is because of the clay court season and he nearly wins all of them, if the clay court season was as short as the grass season i would seriously doubt that he would have held on to the number 2 spot, when the american hard court comes in to play he has some serious set backs,i have seen players like berdych and youzhny give him a good hiding on the hard courts, but still a brilliant player.

Ah well I guess Nadal has to find some resolve in the fact hes the best clay courter ever, when hes constantly being put up against the modern day genius Federer (12 slams). Its silly to think Nadal will ever a win a hardcourt Grand Slam, hardcourt takes so much more than muscle. I don't think Federer is in a slump, he reached the finals at Roland Garros and in other tournaments. What happens is that other players are catching up. Federer has more grace than many commentators because, believe me, is more difficult to know how to lose than to win, and Federer knows how to do both. He is a REAL champion, that is why Nadal has so much respect for him. I am also sure than nadal is another extraordinary person. I am not so sure about other players at this time.

Nadal is the best clay player in the history ever! Compared to the great Borg and other past masters of clay (5 yrs) Rafa is way above them all! No dispute there. Hamburg is a slow clay surface that is best for Fed, but Rafa takes all clay surfaces as his.

If the the grass at Wimbledon was faster like it was years ago, Rafa wouldn't survive the first round. But every court is being made slower for more exciting rallies for the fans. Thats why Roger struggled at Australia, the new court is slower than Rebound Ace was. The slower courts hurts Roger's ability to end points at will.
Is that another excuse? Roger has been and is an extraordinary player, but his days are over. If the grass at Wimbledon is faster Djocovic would take care of Federer in three sets. But things look very good for Nadal so the final will be between these two.

with all respect to nadal the only reason he has stayed at number 2 is because of the clay court season and he nearly wins all of them, if the clay court season was as short as the grass season i would seriously doubt that he would have held on to the number 2 spot, when the american hard court comes in to play he has some serious set backs,i have seen players like berdych and youzhny give him a good hiding on the hard courts, but still a brilliant player.

what did i say at the end?? "still a brilliant player" is that not giving him his due? yes he is only 22 and i still maintain its only because the long clay court season he has remained number 2. Look how davedenko demolished him in chennai or how tsonga took him apart in the AO. He is an exceptional player but he will not get the number 1 spot because he does so badly in the latter part of the season..

I like Rafa, but Roger's been #1 for 200+ weeks, Rafa isn't even close to his achievments yet. He has never won 3 GS tourneys in one year.

Rodger has NEVER won the Rolland Garros (Borg won it 4 times like Nadal) Rafa has won the BIG-DOUBLE (Garros+Winbledon) something so difficult to do that it hasn't been done since 1980 (only Borg has done this like Nadal). Federer has compeated 5 years more than Rafa!! :D So, Rodger is not close to this achievement!! lol

Rafa has NEVER won either AO or USO, Roger has won Wimby + USO 4 times in a row and so far so forth.
You seem like a huge Nadal homer, so it's useless to argue with you, but their styles are much different and Rafa's body is breaking down already. I think I need to mention that I DO like Rafa a lot, he is a great player, but you can only compare peoples' merits when they are both done, and it seems to me like Roger will have more merits at the end of the day.

Rafa not finishing two seasons in a row because of an injury has to worry people (I know he finished 2007, but he was practically done around August, we all remember that USO loss to Ferrer).

Mallorca it's not part of Catalunya, but the people of the island speak the same languaje: catalan. Due to this people from the islands and from Catalonia can be the same way of thinking about Spain but not every people that lives in Catalonia or Mallorca have non-spanish sentiments.

Spain is a country with many different cultures and different languages, Majorcans are perfectly bilinguals most of them, like Nadal. Nadal's football team is Real Madrid, and he is as Spanish as you can be. It is true that you have some ultra nationalist there, but you have them in every corner of Spain.

Ah well I guess Nadal has to find some resolve in the fact hes the best clay courter ever, when hes constantly being put up against the modern day genius Federer (12 slams). Its silly to think Nadal will ever a win a hardcourt Grand Slam, hardcourt takes so much more than muscle. Look at last years Shanghai MC, testament to the fact he will never win a hardcourt Grand Slam. He might win Wimbledon, I doubt it though. There are plenty of players on grass who could beat Nadal anyday.

I hate it when peple write off Federer...i think people should have a look at wht he's done..he has made all the other players improve..he has set the standard so high! he's been winning three slams a year for like four years! inspite off suffering from mono this year he reached the Aussie open semis! tht man is beyond extraordinary ..and yet peple have translated his few losses this year into his decline! thts ridiculous.
p.s nothing against nadal here...he's brilliant.

I don't think Federer is in a slump, he reached the finals at Roland Garros and in other tournaments. What happens is that other players are catching up. Federer has more grace than many commentators because, believe me, is more difficult to know how to lose than to win, and Federer knows how to do both. He is a REAL champion, that is why Nadal has so much respect for him. I am also sure than nadal is another extraordinary person. I am not so sure about other players at this time.

Federer is no finished at all! That is stupid. However, Rafa totally dominates one surface and has became (in spite of what was expected) one of the best on the other surfaces. This is more evident every single day! The whole world of tennis is amazed by Rafa constant improvement and power over all surfaces. He will be the No1 and in my opinion comparable to Rodger on the harder surfaces.

Nadal is the best clay player in the history ever! Compared to the great Borg and other past masters of clay (5 yrs) Rafa is way above them all! No dispute there. Hamburg is a slow clay surface that is best for Fed, but Rafa takes all clay surfaces as his.

Federer seemed like he had no confidence at all...thts very unlike him as he always fights..whether he wins or loses comes next for him..thts very strange...he made so many unforced errors..something is wrong with the guy..i hope he bounces back though...great champions do have slumps..but federer has got to win wimbledon now..its kind of a do or doe situation now.But all due credit to Nadal..the guy really is something..and just love the rivalry..both are amazing players.

It is simple to understand why Fed looked so down. He had hold the hope that a new strategy will get him pass Rafa. Very soon into the match he "felt" the power of the champion and realised he simple is no way as good as Nadal on clay; not one in the whole world is! That's that. But Nadal is human & can play badly if injured, in bad health, or bad form. That would be Federer's only chance.

I can't understand why people like you keep discrediting Nadal. With all due respect to Federer, Rafa completely outplayed him here. And check out the backhand crosscourt winners that Nadal's been producing over the tournament, and if you still can criticise Nadal's backhand the same way, you're the one who has no grace.

This is for all that thinks that Nadal is better than Roger, Roger is simply the best of ever, Nadal only wins on clay but the rest of the season he wins nothing, aah and Roger has won a to Nadal sets 6-0 two times in Humberg, Wimbledon and 6-1 three times. Roger wins on different surfaces, 12 grand slams, 4 masters cups v/s 4 grand slams only RG.

nadal is the best of all time on clay, and one of the best players in the world today, but Roger is of course the number one, the greatest in history on all of the others surfaces. I gave up dreaming of Roger winner at RG... at least until this wonderful Rafa is around. two great players, it's a joy to watch them play. even if I prefer when Roger wins...

If the the grass at Wimbledon was faster like it was years ago, Rafa wouldn't survive the first round. But every court is being made slower for more exciting rallies for the fans. Thats why Roger struggled at Australia, the new court is slower than Rebound Ace was. The slower courts hurts Roger's ability to end points at will.

Dies ist der einzige Belag, auf dem Rafa derzeit unbesiegbar ist. Einzig Novak Djokovic konnte ihm im Halbfinale ansatzweise paroli bieten. Trotzdem wird es bei Nadal und Federer, bei den folgenden Gran-Slam-Turnieren, nur noch über Novak Djokovic gehen.
