  • Great video... God Bless

  • Irony: Using the appeal to authority to point out Luke's skepticism. Also believing that pastor mark or the mars hill crowd are "objective" is a joke.

  • If we tell people the day of our birth, it's an appeal to authority, based on historical record -- either hard copy document, or testimony of older family memebers. If one wants to be a total skeptic about one's birth date and refuses any authority, where does that leave a person? I think Luke and pastor Mark say, "Check out the available records."

  • Or, if you wanted to be scientific you could look at brain development, telomeres bone fusion...

And something as simple as a birth day is fine and well but could your parents even tell you the minute that you were born? No. And if you got 4 conflicting accounts the 'available records' should be treated with extreme skepticism.

  • Four different accounts of the same events seems good evidences that that event happened, even if the perspective of the accounts differ. A history teacher told me of the many different, conflicting accounts of a car accident his class all saw (his aim in telling me was to dispute the reliability of eye witnesses.) But not one of his students denied the accident happend. Be a skeptic, look into the matter.

  • I have looked into it. Still doesn't justify the egregious errors elsewhere in the bible, nor does it form a complete picture. And even if it did there is no reason to believe in miracles.

Be a skeptic, look at the rest of the universe.

  • Just interested -- what particular errors do you refer to?

  • is he goin to answer that?

  • Well the unbelievability of genesis as it relates to the creation of universe, people/life, history of planet earth and the 'flood' are all well known to be without scientific merit. And that's just genesis. Kind of beats up the credibility as a book inspired by divine wisdom when the authors don't know the earth is round.

  • Toledosteal -- Who told you that Genesis is not good history, and why do you believe them? How do you *know* those accounts are in error? That same inspired book indicates humankind's revolt against its Creator, so even if we saw a miracle, we'd reinterpret it to evade God. Only what Jesus did will change that in us. (BTW, Colin Patterson's little book, _Evolution_ strongly suggests that if evoluation is true, lots of 'miracles' (without God) would have to had occurred.

  • Your last sentence just shows an incredible misunderstanding of the universe as we currently understand it. The universe was not created 6000 years ago, there was no flood, and evolution is a perfectly natural and well understood process. I have no interest in arguing with people who actually bite down on apologetic tripe and call it 'truth.'

  • Colin Patterson was not a creationist -- he was a fish fossil expert with the Natural History Museum, London. I think you mentioned 6000 years, I didn't. Do you have answers for my questions about how you *know* the things you believe are true (apart from what is 'currently' understood -- which seems to deny a number of concurrent, different understandings). Eg., How do you know there was no flood?

  • The evidence for the flood is absurdity. Apart from the logistical impossibility of cramming that many animals onto a boat for a year, there is no geological or genetic evidence to support it and human cultures have existed without interruption for thousands of years prior to the flood. Do you believe the flood really happened on a global scale around 4400 years ago and from a TINY population all the human variation we see could have come about?

  • Is it logistically impossible to place animals in a box of that size, for that long? Why? I don't know who told you that there is no evidence for catastrophic flood(s) all over the earth. I've been told there are a great many fossils, laid down by flood water, all over the place. How do you know that there wasn't one big flood? Ancient stories of *a* great flood come from all over the place. Lots of people from few? -- no birth control then? Don't know the time scale -- not told.

  • 'evolution' -- I don't spell well at 5am with virus

  • Regarding the last part of your statement, Isaiah 40:22a clearly states, "He (God) sits enthroned above the circle of the earth." proving that a biblical prophet knew the shape of the earth 2,200 years before Magellan proved it. There are plenty of verses within the Bible that list scientific truths long before scientists did, particularly in the books of Job, Ecclesiastes, Leviticus, Hebrews, and 2 Peter.

  • Yes and a flat earth would appear as a circle from high above. 1 Samuel 2:8 also says that the earth sits on pillars. Last time I checked, no pillars. Oh but wait the parts that are dead wrong are just metaphors right? In genesis plants are created before the sun...truth or just metaphor? Or just plain wrong.

I think you know the answer.

  • Try doing a tertiary course in geology, it just might open your eyes.

  • @Toledosteal BUT plants were not created before light. no, it doesnt make sence. but then, neither does the spontaneouse explosion of nothing (the big bang).

you also have to take into account a thing called "alligorical stories." these are stories that are not always true, but have a truth within them. this was common throughout the ancient world, and is still used today. genesis 1 says God made us. thats all that realy matters.

also, the bible does not say that the earth is flat.

  • ...which will tell you there is a God. Thing is, we're all looking at the same evidences, it's just that many people deny where the evidence is pointing to, so people come up with theories and whatnot to justify their cause.

  • toled- the complete picture is reconcilation with God. The life, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ complete the most vital part of the picture needing to be seen.

  • No one is objective. Everyone interprets the facts through their own way of thinking and belief system.
