Gene Burnett- still stuck in the 60's I see. You and your pathetic protestors need to grow up already. What a waste you have made of your life. Instead of buckling down and working hard, you spend your days trying to get handouts from the rest of us. But keep at it! Th rest of America is watching you and laughing at you. You have done extreme damage to your precious "democrat party". America is turning her back on parasites like yourself. 2012 will be a landslide victory for the GOP!!!
@chucksterjr My friend, you have no idea how hard I work or what I want. I am far more libertarian than liberal. I wrote this in 2009 because I was angry that the financial class had so fucked things up that a hard working person such as myself would have to suffer from this crippling recession through no fault of my own. I don't know what the current protest is really about yet and the protestors are certainly not "mine". This thing is just beginning. For now, I'm keeping an open mind on it.
@chucksterjr Why do you automatically assume he's a Democrat just because he has a problem with the current economic state of the U.S.A. ? EVERYONE should have a problem with this recession!!! WE ARE PRINTING MONEY WE DON'T HAVE PEOPLE!!! To fund SOMEONE ELSE'S agenda to police the world and the poor are the ones who are paying for it. Does that make any sense to you? One thing I do agree with you about is the GOP =D RON PAUL 2012 !!!!!!!
@chucksterjr For one the movement is non-partisan. Furthermore the vast majority of us do have jobs so the whole "get a job" platform is uninformed. And oddly enough you've contradicted yourself. If the rest of America is laughing at us then why is it that the donations are still rolling in and why is it that your initial comment getting so many negative votes?
@chucksterjr Protest is our first amendment right and is not something that is exclusive to the 60's if you were to actually look back into history protest has been omnipresent the 60's were just glorified due to hype and media. On that note we WILL keep at it and victory WILL be ours but it will have nothing to do with whatever elitist prick gets to sit in the oval office it will an awakening of the mind and the empowerment of the people that will prevail. Have a blessed and wonderful day. :D

Thanks Gene. My mom loves this song. I wanted to cover it at today's "Occupy Sacramento" but it was raining. Really really good. I think it sums up the frustration, stagnation and anger, (with a tongue buried deep in the cheek) of so many of us. You should cut an album of folk protest tracks.
@sensfan22 People are mad, understandably. The rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer & somehow "Tax the rich." is a hard sell. I guess many of the poor think they're going to be rich someday & when they do they don't want to pay taxes? We'll have to see if this thing grows or fizzles...the police do seem to be going too far...but I don't watch TV & I've just seen a few fb posts about it, so I don't really know. I'm actually a lot less politically involved than this song suggests.
@sensfan22 I wrote JYF to blow off steam & it sure seems to have touched a nerve with a lot of folks out there. Especially the SebastianHawks version which just topped 140,000 views. I don't write many political songs, but this one sure is fun to sing. I really didn't want anyone to actually jump or God forbid be thrown out of windows. I meant it emotionally & metaphorically: Come down to Earth & produce something of value! Kill the self that's stealing & speculating. Money can't buy you love.
@GeneBurnett Ya well in a time with many issues in our world and many countries going downhill it sure is bound to strike a nerve. Ive been getting involved with environmental activism & the more I learn about the world the less I want to know. It is amazing how few ethics and how corrupt the corporate world is and considering they r the 1s controlling everything these days. I really hate politics but unfortunately I must get involved. On the plus side I have met plenty of wonderful people
@sensfan22 I do what I can, and always try to do what feels most deeply right. We each have to choose our fights. I do lots of benefit shows for local non-profits, including some environmental groups, and of course I post a lot of videos. All my music is available for downloading free or with a donation at my site, which is in its way a political act. I am returning to my folk roots, offering music freely and see what comes freely back.
@realityisfire Thanks! Have you seen the SebastianHawks version? Check my channel, it's first among my "favorites". You can also download the song free at my site or pay a buck for it on iTunes or CD Baby. It's from an album of mine called "Maybe Nothing's Wrong~Part One".
@realityisfire Thanks very much. That's how it's gotten around so far. Every now and then it'll get posted on a high or mid profile blog or site and it'll go up thousands of views in a week. I haven't done any marketing or pushing really. All I do is post it on fb every once and a while, or mention it in an email. It has a life of its own now. It's not typical of my work in many ways, but it sure does release a charge for some people...
@GeneBurnett Yeah, I think I discovered it in the comments section of Max Keiser's financial blog. The song works cos it's some serious vox populi--you can get into detailed arguments about why the current political and financial elites are systematically screwing everyone out of a productive and meaningful future...or you can just tell em "jump you fuckers."
I really love this song. It reminds me of the punisher with the scene in the cafe. The song is upbeat, has that rocky blues sound. After you here it your left with that feeling "Fuck Ya" I'd pay 2 dollars at the jupe box at my local bar to hear this song play.
It's a great song. The tone stays in a wonderful balance between playfulness and melancholy. Great lyrics. I can't hear it without constantly overlapping it with the images of 9/11 and those who jumped. And I love how that overlapping complicates both the romantization of the real terror of those days and complicates the dead-aim anger in the song. Great work.
@rooruffneck Thanks for the thoughtful comment my friend. I don't do much political material. I mainly write to release a charge for myself, you know, get something out of my system that makes me feel better for having written it. Have you seen the SebastianHawks version of JYF? If not, it's #1 of my favorites on my youtube channel & is my biggest youtube "hit". All my music is available for downloading free or with a donation at my site, but your kind words are tip enough, take what you want.
@sae1080 Thanks! The song's not typical of my work, but man, when I wrote it, I sure felt better getting it off my chest. And apparently a lot of other people did too. Have you seen the SebastianHawks video of the song? If not, it's #1 of my favorites on my youtube channel. And if you want it to end up in a movie, all I can say is: forward it to your friends and maybe someone will see it who can get that done! I keep hoping some young band will grab it and run with it. We'll see...thanks again!
@GeneBurnett I just sent the link out to a modest Hollywood producer (Ok, she is the wife of my bro-in-law), young and up&coming, no great blockbusters (yet!), etc. But it may circulate and, well, one never knows what could link up. You do remind me of Bob Dylan (geez!!! I just dated myself!!) which I think would be a great appealing advantage in the Hollywood crowd. Let's see what happens.
@sae1080 Thanks a million! I've been told many times that many of my songs are "cinematic". I even put a post up on Craig's list sometimes offering "Inexpensive Music For Films": "Go to my site where there's over 20 albums of music available for downloading free or with a donation. If there's anything you want to use, you can pay me whatever you can afford, including nothing. Let's talk." But I never got any takers. Thanks again, really appreciate it. ;~)
Favorited! Kind of catchy lyrics. "Jump you fuckers...." It's got legs, chicks dig it. I think we should all stand outside Gov't Sachs, JPM, Soros Fund Mgt., the Federal Reserve, and the US Crapitol while we're at it, and sing this. I'll supply the lighters.
Hey everyone. Thanks for the comments, even the negative ones. This song just popped out one day and helped me blow off some steam. I posted this solo version and SebastianHawks grabbed it and took it to the end-zone. Many thanks to him! In case anyone's interested, you can download my studio version free at my site or if you want it quicker and easier, you can find it on iTunes. Thanks for listening and be well. GB
Out-fucking-standing! This is the most relevant song I've heard in a long damned time! And I've been riding this ball of mud around the sun for fifty three years! It['s about time somebody got pissed off enough to write music again!
Yes, let them disappear and ... let A GIFT ECONOMY be - FREE WATER, FREE LAND, FREE SPACE, FREE FOOD, FREE MINERALS... to all 6 billion people! Working for FREE out of PASSION AND FRIENDSHIP is motivating! Wikipedia, linux, ubuntu.. go ahead! Let us "produce" and share THE GIFTS - everything on this Earth should be a GIFT! No religious, economic, political manipulations are needed when all is for free - a human could be human!
@gifteconomy12 Well, I might not go as far as you would, but I do offer all the songs from all of my albums (23 and counting) for downloading FREE or with a donation at my site. Be well and wealthy however you define it! ;~)
The mega rich won't be jumping any time yet! they instigated this so called economic downturn for there own benefit, the worlds richest increased there wealth the last few years, Abramovich for one! the only people who have losyt out so far are the minions of this world!!
@celticraider1 I'm just blowing off steam here. I wrote it to vent, not describe what's "actually" happening because I have no idea and no time or energy to figure it out even if I thought it was possible. Actually, any financial criminals who don't jump have to live out their wretched karma here on Earth. I just don't see the "these fuckers" as very happy people. I sure don't want to trade lives with them. I know they won't jump, but it sure feels good to sing this song now and then.
Hey I heard this song at the end of a Gnostic Media podcast. I'll never forget the listening experience, I had to keep switching out of StarCraft to start it over and over, typing out the lines of the song in-game until it cost me the match. This is really the song for the year.
@truthIsStranger Hey thanks man! I appreciate it. If you're interested you can download the song free at my site, but it takes a little figuring out. It's not hard but it takes a little time. If you want it quick you can get it on iTunes for a dollar. Be well. GB
Responsibility is a funny thing..I think we're all correct. It's them, it's us, it's everyone. This song is about the "It's them!" perspective. A worthy view I think, and one worth blowing off some steam about. And...I have another song called "I Was Fooled And It's All Your Fault" which expresses the opposite point of view. (It's posted on my site.) I am an absolute relativist: No good, no evil, just relatives. Odd to have one song out of hundreds get so much attention. I like JYF but...GB
I only wish we had a song that said as much about THE FUCKERS IN DC who made it all possible by abusing their position of trust and responsibility to the people.
I believe the song is really intended for every individual who purchased a home that either (a) they could not afford, or (b) was grossly overvalued. Right? I mean, we all know it is US who ultimately caused this mess. Governments and businesses can help the bubble survive, but it is the general public that creates them.
Kemble - When Alan Greenspan convinced Dubya to increase the lending limit by 100% - OR MORE they CREATED the debt bubble! But you want to blame the people who bought into their scheme? Royt, it's the little guys' fault - not the F*#krs who created $60 for every $ONE they had on hand. Get real.
I agree with you but this song is not for them. This song is for the people "up top" who built their fortunes on the bubble and made the whole economy ride on follies of the little people. It's odd to have just one of over 300 songs get so much attention. I was really just venting, ranting, releasing the charge that I had about these "fuckers". I live in an apartment and am very careful with my money, but...You might like my song: "I Was Fooled And It's All Your Fault" It's on my site.
But I don't see why someone going bankrupt on a house they can't afford and losing it is going to hurt anyone else, if the system was working properly in the first place. Your idea about the government vs. the general public in the role of a bubble is the polar opposite of the truth.
The bank gave the homeowner more money than they could afford, and that is the banks' fault. If that activity doesn't cause the bank to fail, that is the government's fault, for giving them your money.
Powerful song...could be a BIG hit on the internet IMO. It needs a solo (harmonica would work) during the instrumental section though. I hope you record a live version soon with a musician who can compliment your guitar and provide the missing solo part. This song would also work electrified...I'd love to hear Neil Young attack it with his voice and lead guitar!
Thanks Gene, I have sent your vid to most the people im hooked up with. Now im seeing more people posting you vid. Revolution happens when the music relfects the times.
r u saying that we need to audit the FED? !!! to realize how many times we've got ripped-off?....? STATUTE OF THE CONSTITUTION.... for the people, by the people...? follow the wise man! state issued money backed by value added to the economy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO PLACE FOR PARASITES!? :)
damnit Gene, I've been walking around for 2 months singing this song. When I'm not singing it, it's swirling around in my head. Not even Safety Dance can dislodge this gem from my brain stem. AARRRGGG! Jump you fuckers!
This is the best protest tune I've heard and reminds me of stories about the last Great Depression of bankers and brokers jumping to their demise. I expect this song and a handful of others to garner millions of hits before all is said and done and I'm happy you wrote this with such conviction (I'm seriously thinking about buying your songwriting book) Consider writing a tune about silver and gold as it and related stocks are pretty much what will be left standing. That's exactly how I invest.
"They might as well nominate my 6 year old to be Treasury Secretary, at least he would play with his toys, instead of screwing up the economy" == Peter Schiff
9/11 survivor, who would like to see the mafia bankers put down, or having to jump like the people in the wtc who were trapped in fire...9/11 the same people caused it

Actually, any financial criminals who don't jump have to live out their wretched karma here on Earth. I just don't see the "these fuckers" as very happy people. I sure don't want to trade lives with them. I know they won't jump, but it sure feels good to sing this song now and then.

I actually like this version more than the one from your website, it sounds more angry and raw! Great work!

Hey I heard this song at the end of a Gnostic Media podcast. I'll never forget the listening experience, I had to keep switching out of StarCraft to start it over and over, typing out the lines of the song in-game until it cost me the match. This is really the song for the year.
truthIsStranger 1 year ago
@truthIsStranger Hey thanks man! I appreciate it. If you're interested you can download the song free at my site, but it takes a little figuring out. It's not hard but it takes a little time. If you want it quick you can get it on iTunes for a dollar. Be well. GB

So to follow that reasoning, Coors and Smirnoff are to blame for alcoholism, not the drinkers. Gotta love the "duh, wusunt me!" mentality. Nuff said.
kemble2000 2 years ago
Responsibility is a funny thing..I think we're all correct. It's them, it's us, it's everyone. This song is about the "It's them!" perspective. A worthy view I think, and one worth blowing off some steam about. And...I have another song called "I Was Fooled And It's All Your Fault" which expresses the opposite point of view. (It's posted on my site.) I am an absolute relativist: No good, no evil, just relatives. Odd to have one song out of hundreds get so much attention. I like JYF but...GB

@kemble2000
Coors and Smirnoff aren't loaning people more beer than they can afford. Bankers should go out of business for giving their money away.
truthIsStranger 1 year ago
Thanks for a great song!
This one will last.
I only wish we had a song that said as much about THE FUCKERS IN DC who made it all possible by abusing their position of trust and responsibility to the people.
They sold out to these vermin.
That makes them bigger fuckers in my book.
Jyoyo1 2 years ago 2
I believe the song is really intended for every individual who purchased a home that either (a) they could not afford, or (b) was grossly overvalued. Right? I mean, we all know it is US who ultimately caused this mess. Governments and businesses can help the bubble survive, but it is the general public that creates them.
kemble2000 2 years ago
Kemble - When Alan Greenspan convinced Dubya to increase the lending limit by 100% - OR MORE they CREATED the debt bubble! But you want to blame the people who bought into their scheme? Royt, it's the little guys' fault - not the F*#krs who created $60 for every $ONE they had on hand. Get real.
MzProgressive 2 years ago
I agree with you but this song is not for them. This song is for the people "up top" who built their fortunes on the bubble and made the whole economy ride on follies of the little people. It's odd to have just one of over 300 songs get so much attention. I was really just venting, ranting, releasing the charge that I had about these "fuckers". I live in an apartment and am very careful with my money, but...You might like my song: "I Was Fooled And It's All Your Fault" It's on my site.

@kemble2000

I just found your stuff on YT , post modern folk music I love it.
I'm the jerk songwriter that suggested a bridge for the WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE song and I think it holds for this one as well.

Excellent! I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything because I'd have ended up spitting it all over my keyboard from laughing so hard.
memnetandrea 2 years ago
This is the best protest tune I've heard and reminds me of stories about the last Great Depression of bankers and brokers jumping to their demise. I expect this song and a handful of others to garner millions of hits before all is said and done and I'm happy you wrote this with such conviction (I'm seriously thinking about buying your songwriting book) Consider writing a tune about silver and gold as it and related stocks are pretty much what will be left standing. That's exactly how I invest.
