Since 1849, when Mexicans in the conquered territories, all became US citizens, by the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, the majority of Mexicans in the southwestern have always been US citizens. Like citizens of US, or any other country, Mexican citizens go to other countries for all sorts of reasons---immigration is just 1 of them. US immigration law has always been discriminatory.
