I remember that and was watching it when it crashed! I love the breakdown music and thanks to the person who said what it was here earlier on his post! I love tv music like that!!!
Scofield looked a bit pissed off when they went for the commercial break. LOL.
I would have thought it better for them to put a caption up telling people they were having a fault, rather than the continuity announcer having to repeat himself every 15-20 seconds.
i bet that man gets bored of saying "Welcome to ITV one, we are currently having some techincal difiuciltys with This Moring an dwe will hopefully return to the program as soon as we possibly can"
itv is the home to live transmission so at some point there is bound to be some teething problems such as sound or vision errors. Dont forget the london studios transmits gmtv live. Then an hour after it finishes, this morning goes live, follwed by loose women. 1 studio, 1 channel, with 6 1/2 hours of live television...what more can you ask for?
GMTV, This Morning and Loose Women come from their own studios and galleries inside The London Studios, so the output of each are completely seperate from one another. In fact This Morning comes from its own building located next to the main Kent House tower building.
I wonder why when ITV1 has any problems, they always put up the 'street light' break bumper still? I wonder why they can't put an animated screen up like BBC do? Or at least a nicer break bumper shot like the beach or fence bumper.

I feel real bad for the British because, yes, technical faults are common there. Though they can exist anywhere else. You know how much I hate tech faults.
But, I must say, the music used during the intermission [when ITV was busy fixing the sound problem] oddly reminds me of some music I had been composing on my Casio keyboard despite my young age.
technical faults are not really that common in the UK.... im from the UK and its rare to see one. gmtv use to have tons of problems with the change from itself to regional news... however i never seem to catch these 'common' faults lol
i like it when things go wrong, proves theres humans there!
Technical faults in British TV are extremely rare.
There is a legal cap on how much advertising a broadcaster can output per hour, so when there is a technical fault, they can't just switch to adverts and pretend it's a normal ad break while they fix the problem.
Because of this, they have to cut to a static title screen or something, which loses them a hell of a lot of ratings, and thus, money. They can't afford to have technical issues.
that may be true but the amount of mixing board failures is also relatively small so but... there are 1 rule when a board breaks, get a new One A.S.A.P and get the other one fixed A.S.A.P to get a spare. replacing a desk can take several hours because of the amount of wires. luckily for them they only need to reboot but a proper desk needs hours of fixing (And that's with 32 channels and extensions) Imaging trying to rewire a large studio desk 50-150 channels maybe even more!
from 6-7am it is the GMTV newshour, then from 7-9:25 it is GMTV Today, then from 9:25 - 10:30 it is The Jeremy Kyle Show, then at 10:30 it is This Morning
GMTV is the morning period on ITV. I'd agree though, it should be a GMTV pic since they love to class GMTV as its own channel, like ITV switches names daily! But that ITV technical glitch pic is the only technical glitch pic they've used, not a variety like the idents would suggest. Oh, the posts above this already answer the question. I didn't realise this morning wasn't GMTV? Oh well...
We have commercials, but they can only play so many minutes an hour, which means they can't use commercials for technical problems as they will easily go over their hourly limit.
i have never heard any of us British refer to the US or any other former colony of the empire as "the former colonies" however i have on many occasions heard it referenced as "shithole"
"We hope to return to this morning as soon as possible"
Must have felt like time stood still at ITV1 until they fixed the fault.... No wonder the sun didn't come up in time!

Is there any evidence that technical faults cause them to lose viewers? I'd guess that the opposite is probably true.
Generally, the faults are so short that data for the number of viewers lost/gained is probably not available.

When the This Morning graphic is shown, you can hear that the female presenter is pissed. :D
But why do they show the ITV1 graphic? I thought that This Morning was a GMTV program? (Sorry, I'm a foreigner.)

No, This Morning is not a GMTV programme. It's shown immediately after GMTV finishes, until the lunchtime news.
