  • I can't decide if I should go do my math homework or continue playing Aquaria. >:(

  • OMG WHY!? i just learned from ReviewTechUSA that antisocialfatman passed away at age 27! I knew him mostly for this video, my favorite aquaria review because quite frankly, this review is the best aquaria review on the entire planet, and im serious when i say that. whenever i would tell my friends about aquaria i would always link them to this review because i completely agreed with every point made. anyway, this comment is mostly as a memory i had about this channel. RIP antisocialfatman

  • It looks like Super Metroid......I FUCKING LOVE SUPER METROID!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great review! I just discovered this game recently (it finally got a Mac port). I've played MANY games over the years and have to say that this might be my favorite game EVER. I don't comment often on youtube but just wanted to let you know, great review! Question - have you encountered other games as engrossing as Aquaria? I dislike ultra-violent FPS games. I don't mind if it's a 2D platformer like Aquaria (I also love World of Goo and Braid). Have you played The Neverhood? Recommended!

  • i have a question he said you could find unlock-able outfits as well as home improvements but i can't find them or any info on it can anyone help with this problem?

  • @Arnie1000351 The home improvements aren't really "improvements" for the most part. Just largely needless decorations (though some are useful). They're actually treasures scattered throughout various areas in the game. Basically anything you swim up to and initiates a small sequence of light and music cue (there's a black pearl, a seed bag, a lamp, a gear, etc. among the things you can find).

  • @Arnie1000351 The outfits also kind of vary in usefulness. Some (Urchin Armor, Crab Armor, etc.) offer abilities while others are purely for the sake of a change of clothes. You can get some of them through various locations (the top of the Turtle Cave bubbles, for example) or by accomplishing certain tasks (beating the challenge time on the Arnassi Ruins race, killing the Rock Crab, etc).

  • @juliagc it's mouth then use the space/dash/double click move away and shoot it while he's still doing the biting/swipe animation it should only take 3 lazor hits

  • @juliagc then use a fully charged tendil attack on the crytal it'll light up red and a lazor will go infrnot of you and hit the dog's head it will take damage and fall back make it melee you back until it's head is there and lazor it again the third time around he won't stay there you'll have to charge the attack make him do a biting move by floating in front of

  • @juliagc if your talking about the boss with a dog looking face and a mermaidish tail then you shoot his head with spamm energy attacks until he backs away for a bit once he backs away ebough then you'll see a cracked pearl use the lift/drag/move/follow spell on it and move it to the thing at the starts mouth it's a concrete statue then swim towards the dog and make it melee then move to avoid the swipe he'll move a little forward until he gets near the pearl then lock on the cracked pearl

  • Got my copy through the Humble Bundle. Ended up getting 10 games for 20$ (including this one) After playing, I'd pay at least that for Aquaria alone :D

  • Great review man, thank you.

  • Great review !

  • I just picked this up from the Wolfire humble pack too... Looks cooler than I thought!

  • good review I bought this game with the good cause thingy so it was as expensive as I wanted it to be, but the game was well worth every cent, might buy it on steam too just to have it there also and pay a bit more than I payed for the full 5 games

  • Wow, $20? I just bought this, Penumbra, World of Goo, Gish, and lugaru HD for $0.03, lol.

  • @TheNiggaJesus Bold. Some people would feel bad for giving 3 cents for that pack, but you went a different direction and bragged about it

  • @sysop073 The guy's a cheapass, just leave it at that. I just paid the average which was 5 bucks since I mainly wanted it for World of Goo. But Aquaria was a nice big fat bonus.

  • @HonestDav My friend bought the Humble Indie Bundle as well. He payed 20 dollars because that's what Lugaru costs. He figured "pay the full cost of the game you want the most." He was nice enough to share with me under the circumstances that I spread the word and review the games myself.

  • @TheNiggaJesus Your an ass go torrent every single game treyarch has every made but pay for the indie games man they actully need the sales they speed alot more time and work alot harder than any treyarch employee

  • @Arnie1000351

Sure, I didn't pay a huge amount of money for games I ended up not liking anyway, but what about all the people that went ahead still pirated this pack rather than even spending a single penny on it? The developers still made thousands of dollars from this, so I don't feel bad that I didn't bother spending some $20 on mediocre games.

  • you can get it very cheaply and legally through the Humble Bundle action at the moment by the way. check : ?v=M7Aw5C7WQ6g for details.

  • google for "the humble indie bundle". there you can buy a bundle of games like aquaria and world of goo starting from 0.01$

  • Actually, there is a health bar. It is that circle of light that surrounds your mini-map... It took me awhile to figure that out, so I don't blame you for saying there is none.

  • Pretty sure he was referring to a boss health bar, not Naija's.

  • a 'wink' can be used when being sarcastic. as in open bracket ( and semi-colon ; so ;) means 'wink' or 'just being a little sarcastic/funny'....!

  • I luuuuuuuuuuuuuuvvv this games :)

  • This game is a little dream. It's simple, with a clear graphics and a sweet, moving, incredible sound track. Indeed, the whole game is very much related to the history of the main character, so much probably you won't play it a 2nd time.. other things I didn' like: not possible to save when you want (need the "save christals") and level are veeeeery big and often labyrint-like.. and sometimes is really frustrating to travel from a point to another of the same level to complete a quest.

  • this game reminds of ecco the dolphin and super metroid. (lol)

really beautifull, but borings at times, i got stuck a lot, and the map is so big to go around every time you get lost. i thik i need a walktrough..

  • i was thinking the same.. looks like it would be fun to explore

  • about music he have total reason

  • Sarcasm's dangerous on the internet. It's never as recognisable in text. Good to know that wasn't serious...

  • That was a joke, surely?

  • damn i qish my couuntry didnt have cadivi so we could use dollars freely also i would like to see orginal games somewhere especially indie ones...weel what can you do on venezuela?

  • I love Aquaria to death. It is pretty expensive compared to most indie games, but the elements you mentioned in this vid, as well as the amount of gameplay time, makes it well worth the money.

Please, people, don't torrent this. Good indie developers need all the funds they can get.

  • The Verse, the underwater world's version of The Force ;P

  • Use The Verse.

  • How I can move stones blocking way near start ?

  • umm, watch the video again??

  • I luv aquaria so fun and puzzling

  • Nice review - I was on the fence about purchasing this game until I watched this video, and so far I am enjoying the hell out of this game. Thanks for the vid!

  • I can too recommend this game. After playing the demo I couldn't have enough of it and bought it. This game is surprisingly cheap compare to other "HUGE" commercial game, so please, don't torrent it.

And though it has their intense action moments, like the reviewer said, it is a PLEASURE just swimming around in this immense world, chasing fishes and singing randomly. Most of the friendly creatures in the world responds to Naija's voice, which is fun to see and explore.

  • Great & accurate review. Why the 4 out of 5?

  • Excellent review of an excellent game. Word of mouth is so important for games like this so good to see this review and I will add my recommendation to buy it too.

A game you might like that you may not of heard of, given this review, is a game called Space Rangers 2. The game comes with Space Rangers 1 and defies description, but it is a quasi 2D/3D/Text Adventure/RTS/RPG/4X/Arcade/Adventure Book/Strategy game that works - plus it has an interface to die for!

  • Your review lead me to go buy this game. I bought it about 3 days ago for only $14 on Steam. They are having a special on Indie games. This is hands down one of my favorite games of all time! And you're right, the music is simply the most beautiful I've heard in any game period...and I play games like mgs1-4, Final Fantasy Series, Xenogears, etc..games with great music work basically and I have to say that I like Aquaria's music more than those. I would have given it a 5/5. Good Review!

  • Finally a british voice I can stand, I don't know why but I can't stand the voice of most british peeps (I don't know if they are briitsh anyway), they emphasize vowels too much, I want to slap them in the face. This review is nice.

  • he soudns irish

  • I pity you, my friend.

  • @antisocialfatman Gah, sorry. I misclicked and accidentally voted down your comment.

I rather dislike how the voting buttons are now hidden until you hover over the comment and thus very easy to click by accident.

Unfortunately, there is no "Are you sure" prompt or any way to undo it, so such misclicks are permanent. Oh well...

  • what ? the game has beautiful 2d graphics, what do you expect ? 3d ?

  • Well I keep wondering what the hell do you mean, really. The 2d graphics are exquisite, have you played the game in the first place ? . In fact now that you mention braid, the graphics of it are kinda, let's say basic, braid sometimes look simple and plain, a lot of their backgrounds have no depth, everything feels flat sometimes. I can reproduce the braid style really quick in photoshop, it's nice but not great in my opinion, it's sort of a mix between impressionism and oldschool graphics.

  • i have this! just got it yesterday it even has joystick compatibility :)

  • My only complaint is the lack of quick save, considering the world is so massive and lack of heals really makes the game frustrating at moments.

  • Games now a days are way too easy with Saves. This game's theme is pretty old school which is great.

And old school games dont have saves man. You use your skills to beat the game without it. Besides, at least this game does have a save point. So no need for quick save.

  • Hey, nice review, can anyone tell me how long this game is? I just started it today, played 8 hours. how muc longer is it ? ive done about 3 bosses or something i think.

  • I'm always completely in agreement with your reviews, but I just wanted to let you know that you do have a health bar in this game. It's the little glowing circle around the minimap in the corner.

  • It's a long time since I watched this review (and I don't want to watch it again!) but if my memory serves me, I meant a health bar for the bosses, not for yourself.

Do the bosses also have a healthbar in the corner? If so, I stand corrected and that's cool.

  • Oh, my mistake. I thought you were referring to your character. Keep making great reviews~

  • Tried the demo last night. Best indie game I have played in a long time.

  • I pretty much agree with you on every point. And the two guys who made this are really swell folks too.

  • It's a pretty good game with pleasant visuals and ambient soundtracks...but it can be boring at times..

  • Ok I take back what I said, it was really slow at the beginning...but then it gets pretty deep and intense when you get further into the story. This game is AMAZING..

  • This really is an amazing game if you like the Ecco the Dolphin series.

  • Your reviews are simply amazing mate. Easily the best on the ould 'tube.

    Keep it up!

  • I simply love Aquaria, it must be my favourite game of all time. Really.

It is that I've already bought the game (and almost finished it), otherwise I would've tried the demo.

Also, why not rate it 5/5 if you're that interested? I'm eager to know your reasons. :)

  • Yeah I guess I should've gone into more detail. I gave it a 4 for two reasons, firstly the game gets a little stale towards the end, and secondly the $30 price point was too high. It should have been ~$20, like it is now.

  • The price is still 30 love. I guess they bumped it up.

  • I wouldn't go as far as to say "BEST music in ANY game EVER. PERIOD," but the soundtrack does play a role just as prominent as the visuals in this game. Just sitting still and singing along with the soundtrack is fun in itself, and the game even encourages it at some points, permitting a spectacular show of color and light in a freeform user-created display of visual and auditory fireworks.

  • I actually purchased this game that i had never heard of based on your review. Is a rare gem i'd never even have discovered if not for you, and i'm glad you brought it to my eye. Keep up the good work. I know you only do PC reviews so far, but maybe consider "the Mark of Kri" for PS2 for one of your reviews, is one of my top ten of all time.

  • Great review, I'm glad you're looking at something that isn't mainstream. As others have stated, I think $30 is a little steep, but the game screams quality. I was very impressed with the demo.

  • Excellent game, and very nice video review.

It was this video that convinced me to play the game.

  • Great review. I'll be taking this into consideration to go and buy this.

    -mo0ksi

  • Jackpot!

You get a weapon soon enough, so you'll be blasting the **** out of innocent little fishes and harvest their organs for sandwiches soon enough.

  • You kids today don't know what quality is!

  • I'm still not convinced that this game is something I would enjoy, but now I'm curious enough to maaaybe purchase it when it costs 5 bucks or something like that.

  • That's a real shame. I've had a lot more fun with Aquaria than I have with recent commercial titles that cost almost twice as much.

It reminds me of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night a lot, and I consider SotN one of the best games ever made.

  • Crap, I replied to the wrong person... vv

  • I smell a PSP port.

  • Yeah, I know... You've mentioned SotN like ten times since I first met you. ;)

On one hand I loved the old Metroid game for the NES. On the other, I'm not sure if the gameplay is deep enough to justify a purchase of something I'm not sure I'll even like.

I could, of course, be wrong about my impression of Aquaria. I was just like JPRussell back in the day: "Eww, GTA-games, not particularly interested" and look at me now... I've dream about playing GTA4 every damn day since it came out.

  • hey this game looks good

  • Thanks for watching.

It's well worth playing - I'd definitely recommend you buy it if it interests you.

It's worth the pricetag just for the music.

  • Great review once again. I've barely started the game myself, haven't had much time to play games lately.

  • Thanks.

Yeah, it's a pretty great game - thanks for suggesting it, by the way.
