Great game, my only criticism is that I never really got to know the other characters that much. You get the dreams and you talk when you find artifacts, but other than that you don't talk much. Really loved the dreams though.
I know this video is long enough already, but I kinda wish you'd given me a few second with each conversation topic before selecting it. I kinda wanted to know what the Kid had to say.
I sat for a good ten minutes contemplating the choices given at the very end. At first I was inclined to evacuate, but considering how amazing the game was (and I still very much wanted to continue playing it), I chose restoration.
I don't regret it though, the second play through makes a lot more sense with this in mind - Rucks will mention Déjà vu moments in the second play through, implying that even when the world was given a second chance, they still went down the same, terrible path.
Very good ending, very good decision to this game. It did an excellent job in triggering an emotional response, and the music was very well done, too. However, the ending to Mother 3 still takes the cake as my favorite emotional game ending.
I would think it is downright weird to choose Restoration and not safe Zulf, Everybody who went through his Story knows he had it tough too. Zia wants to stay, Rucks is indifferent but he does sound a bit more happy when you pick this ending.
Not to mention the Calamity could have happened again.
@hongfuchen Well it was his plan to do so from the beginning and like he says; he hasn't really put much thought in the evacuation plan. He seems happy either way but personally to me, he sounded happier with this option in a way.
I though restoration meant restoring the bastion so we could continue living on it instead of restoring the pre-calamity world. I meant to pick this ending.
Hardest decision I ever had to make in a game but i never could forgive zulf or forget zia and I dont ever think I could change my decision even to see the other ends.
Came here to see if there was an alternate ending. I picked restoration :) I felt bad for smashing all those stone statues of people who died, I wanted them back! :) If The Kid and Zia were meant to be Im sure they would find each other again :D Probably 1 of maybe 3 games where I've actually sat through the credits with my mouth open just being struck by how good this game was. We need Bastion 2!
@darklol261 New game plus is the same story as you previously played just that you kept all weapons etc. It's not another Calamity, its the same one. It just lets you play the exact same story as you just did ie the same with keeping all your stuff. So it's not a new one. At least thats how I understand it.
@darklol261 Ok you said that by choosing restoration you would just loop the same events forever. But you can't be sure because when you choose restoration you dont get to play further to see how it develops. New game plus is not "another life" it's the same life, same time etc. All that is different is that you got more weapons in the start. Anyway thats how I interpret it.
@DwwwD There's some hints in new game plus, such as the very first line of dialogue from Rucks being something he said near the end of the Restoration ending and Rucks commenting on how he thinks he's said some of the stuff he's saying before throughout the game. It's not technically CONFIRMED but it is extremely strongly implied.
One of the greatest game evahhhh (evahh. evahh.. evahh...) Great ending and almost everything is perfect^^ I would buy Bastion 2 if there would be one! (as soon as possible)
I constantly replay this ending. After going through both endings I realized that everyone seemed happier in the Restoration and everyone was normal but the Calamity would just keep happening.
So I replayed the entire game to get to Evacuate and everyone seems sorta more somber and afraid in the end because they don't know where they're going to go. Yet I can't help but feel that was how it was meant to be. They just gotta keep going.
Also the feels I get when the Ura stop fighting me. Ugh.
After taking Zulf with me and seeing just what I was up against, my first thought was, "oh crap, I'm not getting through this alive." But then when they stopped shooting, I started to tear up at how beautiful it was (the music helped a lot). When that one guy started shooting and the other guy killed him (or whatever), I smiled. Any game that can get me to feel dread, cry, experience genuine joy, and laugh over the course of 30 seconds is a masterpiece. Well done, Supergiant, well done.
@passiverebellionX I didn't think I'd make it either. The fact that you couldn't attack combined with the song made me think that the ending would be that I die. But then they stopped attacking and I thought it was just emotionally moving.
You could restore the world. Save those people from turning to ash. Spare the lives of the cute squirts. Live a comfortable life in a city full of people.
Or you could grow up and evacuate. And realize that the lessons you learned after the calamity are worth more than any number of squirts. And that to live in a world where no one knew what you know would be irresponsible.
I chose to restore the world and take Zulf considering that Zulf lost everyone he loved and none of this was his truly his fault. Zulf was a good man and by sending him into the past, perhaps his work as a missionary would've brought about peace and spared the Calamity from happening. I viewed Zulf as the potential hero who could change it all.
When you carry Zulf I always try to understand or guess what the Ura are thinking, do they see that I'm trying to right the wrongs? Do they view me as someone respectable for not abandoning a comrade? Do they view me as an equal for putting up a good fight? I like to think they respect me for not abandoning Zulf, even though he is not one of my people
@haloguy7771 The way I interpreted it was that the Ura (and Zulf) hated the Caeldoni and here was a Caeldoni (The Kid) breaking those bonds of hate and carrying Zulf on his back. I think it melted away their hate and they let the Kid pass.
only thing is i wished zia mentioned that restoration would reset everything and the calamity would happen again... basically zia and the kid would forever cycle their sad lives prior to meeting each other... and be stuck in limbo... she wasn't that convincing but I got the point
This game was awsome. But the ending (from the moment you carried Zulf out of the terminals) is just the most touching moment in all the games i've ever played !
Best ending, restoration was a bad end cause you don't wanna restart life again and suffered the same faith instead to have a family right beside you. I cried when I choose this.
My first ending was saving Zulf and restoration - then in new game + i have chosen saving Zulf and Evacuation - I think it was intended to be this way..... First you want to repair all damage but when you see that it doesn't work - you move one - saving as many as you can...... That game was an masterpiece - i haven't been atracted that much from a long time.... Sad but beautifull game.....
@TheIceRapture I thought the kid was gonna drop dead from the assault and Rucks would say "It's been a while.. looks like the kid ain't comin' back this time...."
@TheIceRapture I absolutely love the fact that you maintain control of the character rather than it being a cutscene. This way it is YOU, the player, who has to carry Zulf while the Ura stand there watching.
@AdvocatusThei I whole heatedly agree, had the game gone into a cut-scene like many do I would have treated it like an average sum up. But since I kept control and actively worked to survive, throughout the final part I was only thinking, I HAVE to save him, even if it takes me a hundred tries.
@TheIceRapture OMG YESS!! when they were attacking, i was like NOO im gonna die now? so close to the end?!?!! then they stopped and the elite knocked out that grunt - had my eyes crazy glassy! and then the Bastion logo appearing? ahh man!!!!! too damn good!!! too damn good!!
This was a very satisfying ending. I picked restoration first, to experience all those flashbacks of the narrator, and save all my companions in new game +, but i think this is the "true" ending in means of role.
They stuck in a circle of restoration for sure, and you can prevent that.
And when you carry Zulf, one of the best moments in gaming for me.
This is the ending I went with. Saved Zulf (I felt real sorry for the guy) and choose to Evacuate. I figured we did all that crap before, we can still live though it XD
This is the ending I went with. Move on to greener pastures and let that pretentious civilization rot in the ground. Beats subjugating everyone to time-loop fatigue.
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
That one sentence is what led me to choose this ending, as I would hate for history to constantly loop itself. By far the best ending in my opinion, so full of emotion and feeling. If only more games these days could achieve what Bastion has achieved. Bastion truly is a work of art.
@asparagusoffice Yes It is an endless loop play a second time through with the first ending and the last thing he says is along the lines i new you in the next. and listing a second time you actually here ques from the narration like their have some kind of deja-vu. At least that is how I interpreted it.
I love Zia and The Kid. I couldn't pick Restoration, no matter how many times I tried to pick it. And then every time I couldn't move on, i had to take him (Zulf) with me.
As Rucks spoke of how grand it would be to redo everything, I couldn't help but think that this was meant to happen. The Calamity, it's the beginning of a new world. I've always been one to say that the past should not be rewritten, and so I chose evacuation over restoration.
@elbridge27 They had realized that they should just let him go if he was willing to take Zulf, who had betrayed him, and not even fight back. The archer guy was out of it or maybe wouldn't listen so he got himself killed.
@elbridge27 they were shooting because they thought that he would destroy them like everyone else. but then they realize that he saves one of their brethren. So they stop, and let him pass.
The Ura basically realized that what they were doing the entire time was wrong. The Caelondians may have caused the Calamity, but the Kid and Rucks were trying to rebuild after it. They were also probably awed by what the Kid was willing to risk his life to save an Ura who had betrayed him. They decided to let the Kid and Zulf go.
Zia has a completely normal voice, but I'd been playing the entire game with Rucks' voice in my ears, so it sounded SO ANNOYING when I first heard it.
@Xjau no he meant if you choose restoration and turned back time he didnt know. how can you calamity something already calamitied lol. anyway it DOES happen again, in other ending rucks says during the ending "maybe i'll see you again, in the next one" which im pretty sure means the next calamity.
Doing the evacuation and taking Zulf is the only way people can survive,If you do the restoration all of the Ura and Caelondia will be damaged again until you choose evacuation, so it's an endless circle of pain and despair until you evacuate, which is way Bastion is a true masterpiece
This was my ending. After seeing the others just now, I'm damn glad I picked it. The part where the Ura all cease fire was the highlight of the story.
Awesome game. I almost didn't buy it. Luckily some reviews changed my mind.
thanks for the endings!:) im sad, all the endings are sad, if you take Restoration, Zia is unhappy with her life and alone, but Zulf is happily married, but if you take Evcuation, Zulf is unhappy he lost his love and is alone, or he is dead, but Zia is happy and seems less alone
Actually, if you pick the restoration "ending" it leads to a time loop. Rucks admits there's nothing stopping the calamity from happening again and it apparently does. (Which is why the last words from Rucks in the restoration continuum are the first words in new game plus.) Zulf is happy for the moment, just like he was before the calamity. But that happiness will only last until the calamity repeats itself. He'll have to suffer his loss again and again for all eternity that way.
@Dalzifer zulf is a strong men, he lost his love and most of the reality( friend, home etc..) but he still tried to do the most racional idea. ( remenber that he didn't know the whole story about the calamity and the bastion...)
Dont worry he will accept this "new life" with Zia, Rucks and "The Kid".
@herespaul Actually, there technically is no bad ending. Nothing bad happens, it's just more of what you feel would be a better ending: Restoring the world to its former glory and leave everyone behind, or evacuate and stay with the friends you made in the world created by the Calamity.
@ff7masta I think returning is a neutral end for the Kid. All the bad stuff happened to him well before the Calamity, and he moved on from it. The way he kept working at the Rippling Walls and earning the respect of the Marshalls, I think he'd have become one in the future, and maybe started trying to court that girl he fancied.
But yes, returning is the bad end for Zia, just as moving on is the bad end for Zulf since he won't be sent back in his joyful past, even if it's doomed not to last.
Great game, my only criticism is that I never really got to know the other characters that much. You get the dreams and you talk when you find artifacts, but other than that you don't talk much. Really loved the dreams though.

This was because Kid was forced to commit genocide on the Ura people and wipe out a wildlife/monster sanctuary.

At least that is how I interpreted it.

I love Zia and The Kid. I couldn't pick Restoration, no matter how many times I tried to pick it. And then every time I couldn't move on, i had to take him (Zulf) with me.
g4m3rsunite 4 months ago
As Rucks spoke of how grand it would be to redo everything, I couldn't help but think that this was meant to happen. The Calamity, it's the beginning of a new world. I've always been one to say that the past should not be rewritten, and so I chose evacuation over restoration.

I got this ending the first try. :P

@elbridge27 They had realized that they should just let him go if he was willing to take Zulf, who had betrayed him, and not even fight back. The archer guy was out of it or maybe wouldn't listen so he got himself killed.
mrdude0202 5 months ago
@mrdude0202 Wait a minute, what about the archers in the beginning, they were shooting the kid
elbridge27 5 months ago
@elbridge27 they were shooting because they thought that he would destroy them like everyone else. but then they realize that he saves one of their brethren. So they stop, and let him pass.
goobercow 5 months ago
@elbridge27 They though he would try and kill them so they acted as normal. Once they saw and realized what he was doing they stopped.
mrdude0202 5 months ago
How come at 1:36 the Ura popped out the other Ura shootin' the kid?
elbridge27 5 months ago
@elbridge27

The brilliant thing is, there is no good ending. Just a sad ending and a "bad" ending.

I almost cried when i played this ending. It was especially emotional at 1:33. This game is a piece of art!

Zia has a completely normal voice, but I'd been playing the entire game with Rucks' voice in my ears, so it sounded SO ANNOYING when I first heard it.
TheInsaneWombat 5 months ago
Actually Rucks said that he doesnt know will happen the Calamity again or not.
Xjau 5 months ago
@Xjau no he meant if you choose restoration and turned back time he didnt know. how can you calamity something already calamitied lol. anyway it DOES happen again, in other ending rucks says during the ending "maybe i'll see you again, in the next one" which im pretty sure means the next calamity.

daM1NT3 5 months ago
Doing the evacuation and taking Zulf is the only way people can survive,If you do the restoration all of the Ura and Caelondia will be damaged again until you choose evacuation, so it's an endless circle of pain and despair until you evacuate, which is way Bastion is a true masterpiece
BenProductions1000 5 months ago 2
this ending would be great for a sequel
NikolaTeslaBolt 5 months ago 2
Started this game with a smile, and ended it with a tear..
Why I chose this ending? We get a chance to move on, learn from the mistakes we've done and make the sacrifices worthwhile ...
It was a tough choice, a really tough one, but it was the right thing to do ..
FoldAPieceOfWater 5 months ago
this was one of the most intense moments in the game for me. this is seriously a masterpiece of gaming

@zirbat16 me too, no one dies, and no one is sad and also all of them stay as a family!
daniel10129100 5 months ago
This was my ending. After seeing the others just now, I'm damn glad I picked it. The part where the Ura all cease fire was the highlight of the story.
Awesome game. I almost didn't buy it. Luckily some reviews changed my mind.
Zhukov087 6 months ago 6
thanks for the endings!:) im sad, all the endings are sad, if you take Restoration, Zia is unhappy with her life and alone, but Zulf is happily married, but if you take Evcuation, Zulf is unhappy he lost his love and is alone, or he is dead, but Zia is happy and seems less alone
Dalzifer 6 months ago
@Dalzifer
AkimboJoe 6 months ago
@Dalzifer zulf is a strong men, he lost his love and most of the reality( friend, home etc..) but he still tried to do the most racional idea. ( remenber that he didn't know the whole story about the calamity and the bastion...)
Dont worry he will accept this "new life" with Zia, Rucks and "The Kid".
julios999 5 months ago
that ending song is amazing
Fake1904 6 months ago
What happens when you move on?
I really couldn't bring myself to do so when I played the game because I feel guilty when I think I'll get a bad ending.
herespaul 6 months ago 7
@herespaul I will upload all of the endings soon :) so don't worry you'll see everything
DarkStealMan 6 months ago 5
@herespaul Actually, there technically is no bad ending. Nothing bad happens, it's just more of what you feel would be a better ending: Restoring the world to its former glory and leave everyone behind, or evacuate and stay with the friends you made in the world created by the Calamity.
afterlifeavenger 4 months ago
@afterlifeavenger Yet restoring puts The Kid and Zia back into their depressing past.
ff7masta 4 months ago
@ff7masta I think returning is a neutral end for the Kid. All the bad stuff happened to him well before the Calamity, and he moved on from it. The way he kept working at the Rippling Walls and earning the respect of the Marshalls, I think he'd have become one in the future, and maybe started trying to court that girl he fancied.
But yes, returning is the bad end for Zia, just as moving on is the bad end for Zulf since he won't be sent back in his joyful past, even if it's doomed not to last.
