Love the videos,we do a free spookhouse every year,,we average about 300-400 people in the 2 days we stay open.I been looking for ideas to build more props, thanks again for the videos.
@donttrustsnowmen Oh good. Hope it helps. Note that I had to change the mechanism twice. I show another video showing a new wood block design. On Halloween, the wood broke, so I went with all metal hardware for the connection and have been running fine ever since.
@donttrustsnowmen If you building pneumatic props i have a few ideas that i can share the specs of, but if you have a 12'' cylinder your best bet would be to make a strait up pop up, those things scare the crap out of everyone!
have you ever tryed using a pneumatic cylinder under water, if so did it ever mallfunction or did it even work, if you've never tryed it do you think it would work
What does bore mean? When you said it has a 3" stroke does that mean it only extends 3" out of the cylinder if not how do you figure out how far the piston comes out of the cylinder? I'm a bite confused.
@snowboarder10064 Bore is the thickness of the piston. The thicker the more weight it can lift. The 3" stroke refers to the length it extends from the body. Go to Fright Props and click the 'product support' section. Tons and tons of info there and great tutorials.
@toxicfrost123 Good question. Well, this prop was actually part of a larger haunt. 6 props controlled via DMX and another program called DMXorcist that allows me to command each prop but they are all connected with the DMX protochol. If you have just one prop then relays and microcontrollers are great. Love what Fright Ideas (PicoBoo) makes.
@TheWerewolf1215 I think it would! It wouldn't have that sudden start but the electric motor would still have a good hit of power to make the thing wiggle. All it needs is the start of momentum. I guess worse case, you could go pneumatic if the electric motor doesn't work out for you. Boogedy is a big investment so I'm afraid to tell you for sure without me testing it first. Look at my Transworld 2009 video to see hubby jostling it so you can the force Boogedy needs to keep going :)
So when using the DMX controler will you need a controller and laptop for each prop because that seems like that would get expensive compare to the other MonsterGuts Nerve center or controllers from Frightprops. Do you also have to buy the program that controls the DMX. I know the DMX lets you change the colors but is that the only differnce. Just trying to fig what is best. Thanks
@MrBobby47 No, you just need the one computer. Once you have your DMX chain set-up then you add to it as needed. Each DMX relay box has four channels. Most times my prop only needs one channel so that leaves 3 other channels for other props. For example, this year I'm running 7 props but only need two DMX relays.
I like the idea of stand-alone props too(like using the MonsterGuts Nerve center). For me, I like the central control I have but it's a personal choice. My way has drawbacks too.
hi, I've been checking out props from SpiritHalloween and then I saw this, I was wondering if its more economical to buy props online or make these pneumatic ones that look pretty cool.
I think it more depends on how much time you have. Making these pneumatic props yourself takes time and can be expensive. Boogedy's body alone was around $350 and I had to still latex and paint him. But, if this is a hobby you are thinking of undertaking....it's a lot of fun. Check out my home forum: HalloweenForum to see a whole bunch of nutty prop makers like me. I'm Terra there.
The Enttec came with software drivers that you install. The VSA program then knows that an Enttec box is hooked up (once I tell VSA that's it's there) and so it knows to communicate to that. I hope that answered your question.
great video. I'm so glad you went over all the hookups and VSA. I've done a bunch of research, but it helps so much to see someone use these items to decide if its right for me. Huge thanks for all of it. :)
You are very welcome. I did that because it was frustrating for me trying to visualize how to put all these components together. I confuse myself easily ;)
@braneden I saw a display at Universal's Halloween Horror Nights that I thought I could do. Then I kept attempting more difficult props finding How-to's on the internet. When I joined HalloweenForum . com and was able get answers to questions...then, I was in DMX, pneumatic heaven :)
There are timers you can buy that can also be used to trigger props. Now, for my full show of Boogedy, you need to have a way to fire your VSA computer program (other than just hitting the enter key on the computer). I use DMXorcist. I start my 5 prop shows by simply pressing the corresponding button on a remote.
heh. Yeah, you are right, I did say that a lot. But, it is easier than I was first thinking it was. It's a plug and play way of controlling props but a more pricey way too. Search DMX at my home forum for threads hashing this out if you are curious. HalloweenForum . com

@snowboarder10064 No I haven't but I remember reading that if you get the stainless steel ones they can be used for underwater uses.

Where do you get the short black tubeing that connects the solenoid to the cylinder if it came with it do you know where I could get some?
snowboarder10064 6 months ago
@snowboarder10064 Fright Props carried the tubing. I prefer the more flexible stuff but the rigid is cheap :)
Scaryladyvideos 6 months ago
Another question that I thought of, what type of air compressor are you using?
snowboarder10064 6 months ago
@snowboarder10064 I use a Craftsman 17 gal oilless. Works for me but have always wished I got a bigger one :)

snowboarder10064 6 months ago
@snowboarder10064 Means it has a 3" stroke. The piston inside extends 3".

A couple more questions where did you get yours, and how much did it cost? Thanx for your feed back.
snowboarder10064 6 months ago
@snowboarder10064 I got it from Fright Props. It came with the solenoid for about $25.
Scaryladyvideos 6 months ago
how do u spell that black valve thing thats in the vid please get back to me soon thanx
snowboarder10064 6 months ago
@snowboarder10064 It's a valve that attached to a solenoid. Usually they are sold together as one unit.

could you use a double acting cylinder
movieman621 8 months ago
@movieman621 Yes, you could though you'd have to add the command for it to return. But, could have a lot more violent movement with it :)

@blackknightghost I bought a raw pull (with the internal steel armature) from Fright Theatre. With his help I latexed, corpsed and painted him :)
