  • This song makes me feel comfy regardless of my relation to Nautica.

  • I feel a Beach Boys vibe when I hear it. And LOVE it.

  • God damn I fucking love Panda Bear. And his voice.

  • Yeah, it's pretty obvious that he's changing the G to a Gb to give the song a different feel. He was singing higher notes before, it would be weird to think, given his range, that he couldn't hit a note that's not too high for him.

  • I think it’s obvious that he’s doing that on purpose on the high parts. It sort of follows the roll of the “snare” drum. I think he’s also trying to be dissonant towards the end there. I don’t really care for it, but again, it seems to be on purpose, for what it’s worth. These guys are always a little ‘pitchy,’ I guess, live, but it doesn’t bother me much. They write extremely challenging vocal parts and their recordings are the best thing I’ve ever heard.

  • hahaha now i know i should avoid this shit this years coachella hahahah

  • @youmoko hahaha yeah couple o' wrong notes panda

  • i don't think he's missing high notes, just changing the note to make it sound different (like a middle-eastern vibe to it).

and if i were as out of breath and sweaty as he was, i'd sound pretty terrible too. live>recorded video

  • I wouldn't say he's a bad singer but this isn't one of his good performances he seems to not be able to hit the high notes

  • I think Noah's a good singer. He doesn't sing like most people, so many people think that 'different' is the same as 'bad'. This is a wrong assumption in my opinion. Gotta love Panda Bear.

  • a panda bear is not a good singer

  • @EnokiSka are u serious?

  • @brothersport92 of course I am...show this to anyone you know and they will say the same

  • @EnokiSkai wutever im not gonna argue...i just think he is a great singer :my opinion

  • @dtbails there 3 pesons in one god lol

  • who cares about radiohead... let them burn in hell.

  • its tough to say who is "more experimental" because like hotfudge said...you can't compare the two. Radiohead was one top of the world and did the unthinkable...an artistic 180 from what got them there. Losing ALOT of fans but gaining critical recognition from the critics who got it. But who cares, we have them both to enjoy and admire!!

  • you know what everyone, this version gave me chills. The build of his voice and the minor notes just gave it that off-center edge that is something I love about old Animal Collective. I haven't listen to Person Pitch in months and aboslutely have to now.

  • Panda Bear is a fantastic singer and all, and Animal Collective is one of the best bands of the decade in my opinion, but when live it sounds like they're just trying too hard and trying to be loud enough for everyone to hear them. They just aren't good live; they're good singers, but not when playing for large audiences. They're just not the type of band meant to be heard live. And most of their stuff should be may more epic than it is (like their live performance of In the Flowers)

  • @MonsieurRondu Though Chocolate Girl was amazing live though, and so was Summertime Clothers...

  • @MonsieurRondu you should see their performances of songs from previous albums. Who Could Win a Rabbit?, Grass, The Purple Bottle, Reverend Green, and Fireworks are live performances you should look up.

  • this song is not from animal collective is from a group called panda bear i have the album is called human pitch

  • @serhumanono Hahahaha, you made me laugh so hard, in a good way of course xD

  • i wonder how it must feel to have made the best song of a generation

  • sounds like that akira song

  • exactly what i was thinking

  • @TashMV it's a sample from that akira song

  • panda bear made an old album from 1999 called panda bear and its really hard to find. where can i find one?

  • @HelloNewYorkCity

if yiou still need it i can help

  • i read an interview about this show. noah lennox came down with cold or something, which explains why he sounds so bad here.

  • I think he sounds amazing! I absolutely love this version.

  • Amazing album! <3 it!

  • @lukeashmoore he's just messing around with a different melody than on the recording. its kindof dissonant but he's singing fine

  • AnCo is playing a Panda Bear song? I guess that means they are ok with him branching off.

  • Of course, Pandas been doing solo stuff even before there was an AC.

  • Why would they care?

  • @wassup287 cross promotion

  • 5:00 - 5:30 breaks my heart.

  • i wish i was panda bears mic...

  • as much as i agree with the fact that this is a great performance by panda, i am in my high school chamber choir and there are many times when members are flat haha and it's natural, and i'd say we are pretty decent.

  • Radiohead is awesome. More experimental than Animal Collective? I don't think so. You can't really compare the two though.

  • @hotfudgemoney kid a was pretty damn experimental though.

  • @hotfudgemoney you really cant

  • @hotfudgemoney Idk man, maybe not as electronic? The difference between OK and Kid A is remarkable. But yeah, it's best not to compare anything.

  • @hotfudgemoney I think Radiohead had a bigger impact on music, but they are completely uncomparable and I don't think there's any doubt that AC is the more experimental on the two. Love both, Radiohead's my favorite band ever and AC is top 10 easily.

  • @FruschendrixFan01 i think they're about tied

  • i prefer radiohead to ac

but im slowly growing to love ac

but the transition from the bends to kid a is imo smaller than the transition from sung tongs to MPP like who could win a rabbit and brother sport??

  • This sounds really good. Why are people going so nuts over it?

  • Personally, I like the flat note. It just gives a different flavor than the recorded version.

  • the dispute over his vocals- its called an accidental note.

  • thank you

  • thats all on purpose, his vocals are in a different key here than in the recorded version. embrace it. after the meriweather post pavillion work i dont think anyone could say they are making MISTAKES when it comes to vocals...

  • Unbearably flat on the high notes? Corpus Cristi man, what is it with people wanting the live version to be a clone of the produced version. AC/Panda bear for me are a band who when they perform give off a great sense of freedom and genuine feeling, and Id rather PB be a bit sharp/flat on the highs than be some dreary corporate machine.

  • It's not that he's even making a mistake necessarily. He's hitting the note the same way every time. He just took it minor. Having said that, I think it's okay to prefer it major. I know I do. It changes the vibe completely.

  • while i love panda bear and animal collective alike, panda bear is unbearably flat on most of the high notes. he wiggles around them at times, which is ok, but when he goes for them its a swing and a miss

  • Dude, watch the video for Summertime Clothes live on Letterman. Panda's backing vocals are sensational. Perfection even.

  • i did, and i agree. in fact im not sure why everyone is flipping out about this. i am a fan of animal collective, i just saw them at lolla and it was amazing. people flip out about the stupidest shit on youtube.

  • "people flip out about the stupidest shit on youtube"

    +10000000

  • You do realize noah sang tenor in his high school chamber...I don't think he'd even be in choir if his notes were flat man. I doubt you really like this music, you're kind of like a kid who smokes when it comes to this, you just do it because your friends do it.

  • you do realize you are the indie version of a tool?

  • that's cool man, i'd rather be a tool than a fucking lame ass hipster.

  • i would say Animal Collective, Radiohead, Deerhunter, AND Battles are the most forward thinking bands

though Animal collective is my favorite :)

  • Grizzly Bear?

  • Panda is just perfect.

    Love the Bear.

  • geo is fuckin awesome.

    they all are...

  • yeah, I also think so, sorry if I made the wrong impression, I just thought that this song was better in Pandas hands alone

  • yeah i get you man ;-)

I guess its really your taste. It sounded different cause they all had their own feel on it.

  • then gtfo

  • No one cares what you think, you're just another tool who thinks it's cool to wear Che Guevarra T-shirts.

  • it's all about style, i personally would describe this music as liberating, it helps me keep in touch with the beauty of chaotic rhythmic sounds, idk man i just personally think its great, but then again everyone has their own preference, hooray panda bear!

  • Heavenly

  • what??

animal collective and radiohead are nothing alike..

how could you even compare them?

radiohead isnt nearly as experimental as AC. but both bands ooooze talent.

    looove

  • bshale89, radiohead is just about as experimental as animal collective, also, they are both candidates for the best forward thinking bands of all time. They are my two favorite bands. You think kid a isnt experimental? just because they refine the sound more doesnt make it any less out there. Id call them exactly alike when it comes down to the important things.

  • I miss Deakin...

  • lumpagogo is just about another .....ok..ends now.......useless??

  • Comment removed

  • they should never of made comments available on youtube. most ppl are idiots, including myself.

  • lol, that's hilarious man. I agree

  • animal collective and radiohead are both wonderful bands who make great music

  • yeah creativity is a drag

  • y'know, I really do like animal collective. it just live....it's kind of lacking....

  • Bashing Radiohead to any degree in pretty much any music circle makes you look like a fucking retard. Especially for a stupid reason like the way you think Thom's voice sounds.

  • Hey guess what lumpagogo, suck my penis

  • get rid of your face freak.

  • Radiohead is now spitting on us; Animal Collective learned a lot from them. They are both laughing at us. The thing is it's not funny.

  • @lumpagogo What the fuck, if they think of their fans as shit then why would they let them buy their new album for free...

  • @MonsieurRondu

    "...buy (it) for free..."?

  • sal:

Admittedly, we'll never know whether A/C paid or not. When we look at the hx of Top 40, the entity which has given us the worst in so-called popular music for 60+ years, it's not surprising that the oddball sound of A/C is catching on.

We've had this Emperor's New Clothes mentality in music forever. Look at:

    U2

    Areosmith

    The Allman Bros

    Def Leopard

    Newer Radiohead. 95% Junk

  • Maybe the biggest bad joke of all is Bon Jovi.

  • WXPN has given A/C huge airplay. Why? It has nothing to do with how small the label is. It's called play-for-pay; sometimes the little folq fork over the cash. Last anyone checked, their Benjamins are no different from anyone else's.

  • it's amazing how changing one note so slightly can create so much tension/dissonance/whatever in such a short moment.

  • I think it's great when bands reimagine their songs. It reminds me of the Residents who regularly change their stuff from the original material. I think it's a masterful quality. Course I kinda prefer the album's on this one.

  • Oh yes,

    The Residents

    Snakefinger

    Tuxmedo Moon

    MX-80 Sound

    Fred Frith

plus A/C = The Six Noise-Men aka The Six Klink-and-Klank-Men.

  • well he sang this song perfectly when they played in chile unfortunately there is no decent audio recording of that day

  • this is intentional. if you had a pair of ears you'd hear that although he's not singing the same notes as on any album, he's hitting each note here the exact same everytime. its intentional dude.

  • i was laying in the grass at the back of the tent and rolling pretty damned good during this! :)

  • Panda Bear is beautiful.

  • I think the only reason the singing sounds so much worse live is that on record there's about 15 overlays of his voice all at once. This isn't THAT out of tune, it's just that when there's only one voice any imperfections become so obvious

  • this isnt out of tune

  • yeah, why the fuck do people think that this version is out of tune when he meant to change that one note

  • i rly like his singing on this version it sounds more sinister

  • there's a vid of Bros live, about four years ago and it sounds amazing. although i agree, he can be pretty awful live.

  • i never knew animal collective played panda bear songs

  • Wouldn't make much sense not to

  • Panda Bear is one of the members of Animal Collective

  • the beach boys pet sounds

  • Yeah im not stoked on the vocals here. I love this song but it really sounds bad the way hes singing it. I know some bands like to sound different from their album, but you can also butcher your song wandering too far from the original.

  • it seems obvious that he's singing it that way intentionally. it sounds really good, too. maybe not better than the album version, but different in a good way.

  • ok, since you guys don't bother to do research, here is what happened.

I was there, they were having trouble with the sound, they could not hear themselves. They were late 40 minutes, causing me to miss portishead beginning on the mainstage.

They were really mad on stage before the show. They were on the stage connecting and checking the equipment, they began on stage with reluctant faces. Which is why on fireworks song, Avey was very off.

listen to their NPR concert on Itunes its free!

  • Wow, Noah cannot sing live.

    Amazing music though

  • much love for panda bear and animal collective.. amazing, psychedelic stuff

  • its awesome that theres enough people who like good shit. Maybe we WILL have jobs in ten years guys.

  • that's probably the first time I liked a song when the singers so obviously singing off pitch

  • Wow, this is pure excellence. I'm looking forward to Panda Bear's next album!

  • I don't like the way he sang this song live.

  • You can tell by Noah's shirts that he picked out the album cover. (Come to think of it though, wouldn't that cover look awesome on a shirt?)

  • coolness IS having courage

  • to do what's right

  • they did this live at all points west... and panda bear killed it... it so good. that thunder hit went through like a shockwave

  • That show was insanely heavy. The album version can't compare at all

  • man I'm a Panda Bear fan and all, but I got to admit It's painful to watch Panda Bear sing this song live, the recorded version is amazing though.

  • i thought that at first too, but i think he changed certain notes on purpose becuase he did it the same every time (the not thats "to" in "courage to do whats right"

  • sober or tripping, this band is amazing

  • Yes

  • double yes

  • You shouldn't have to be on drugs to enjoy this, especially live. You can just get lost in every layer and tumble down them all like Alice.

If you need drugs you are missing out on discovering it all with your own mind.

and to all the haters. why the hell would you go around video to video calling things crap if you don't like listening to it in the first place? Is the rest of your life really that meaningless?

  • And this isint drug music by the way, its just very cultured, ahead of their time sorta.

  • i've heard him sing this song better.

  • it's on purpose

  • its like a scandinavian radiohead on crack

i cant hear a word hes saying

  • ha, lame dude

  • Feel free to continue to up the comment amount on AC videos, you troll. I think it's funny how people like you act like it sucks, yet you parade around on every AC video, posting twenty comments. You're more obsessed than the fans.

  • try to tell me how to do it

only because i'm new to it

    coolness is having courage

    courage to do what's right

    i'll try to remember always

just to have a good time

try to show me that you know me

do you know what coolness really is?

  • this comment makes as much sense as their lyrics

  • those are the lyrics, cheesedick.

  • Wow, if you actually read their lyrics instead of wasting your time criticizing something you dont know, then you would realize that AC are amazing lyricists and their music does make sense.

and out of all songs to post that comment, it had to be this one. dont make me write out what hes saying right here.

your an idiot, and i pity you.

  • "your an idiot, and i pity you."

    really nice irony there, A+!!!

  • You are so incorrect.

  • you should get some brains

  • that's old AC, Panda Bear's lyrics are very confessional and personal

  • how hard do you have to think about "coolness is having courage, courage to do whats right"?

if its long, youre an idiot.

  • Noah sings way too loud. Other than that its pretty good.

  • HAHA... you are funny... as in funny, i mean a jackass

  • by the way... i am not calling you, xero1391, a jackass...

  • Where can I buy your cats music???

  • i want to know if people who listem to this music take drugs when they lsiten to this

seriously i just wanna know if its the raver crowd, if people take like ectasy or speed when they go to the concerts

please respond, i am just curious because i dont take those drugs but like rave music sounds really bad sometimes but people on drugs get a kick out of it

  • I don't and I love panda bear's music. (& AC)

obviously though you can imagine that other people do.

Look at top albums of 2007 though; these reviewers do not rate the music based on how they sound when you're on drugs.

  • I smoke grass and listen to it. I get lost in it. good times.

  • i am drugs - salvador dali

  • "Do what ya like" - Rick Ross

  • It's perfect acid music
