@Nanya "A shortened version of Bedknobs and Broomsticks was re-released theatrically on April 13, 1979, omitting all but 2 songs "Portobello Road" and "Beautiful Briny Sea". Even the Oscar nominated song "Age of Not Believing" was omitted. A new edition DVD was released on September 8, 2009" ;)
It's funny how they changed the order of the songs a bit too when they added the missing bits. If I remember correctly, the Jamaican section was last and the old ladies were before it in the theater cut, and the two dances cut are kind of bland compared to the rest.
I don't think alf garnet would choose to visit portobello road on a visit to london, he'd have cardiac arrest, place is crawling with foreigners, its like somewhere ou foreign
the soldier was from the australian army and since we are from down under we meant to have the habit of walking upside down like he was doing in the dance.
i'v eonly ever had it on video too... must have watched it at least 50 times as a kid (yet i never got bored :P) and this song always left me sad at the end...
I own the VHS version of this, so there was a lot of extra footage I had never seen before. Thanks for uploading this. I might just have to get the DVD now. This is one of my favorite scenes with all the dances and nationalities!
Yeup. On the DVD they comment on how this sequence was cut way down for the original release. There was also an extra song that was sung right before she flies on the broom. It was completely cut and the footage was lost, but the instrumental of it can still be heard during her flying sequence.
That's awesome (that he's your grandfather, not that he's dead). He was an awesome voice actor. He was great in this, Mary Poppins, and Lady and the Tramp.
and no its a bad thing that everybody stops when the indians come! its supposed to be a family film with no racist stuff for kids.. and if you don't appreciate the movie the way its ment to be well its your problem, so don't post your stupid racist comments on something that is not made for you.
I always loved that part. Everyones shock with seeing them. But I always loved it. It was like they were so different, you couldnt help but watch in awe and fascination. And Carrie tries to mimic their moves. I always loved this song and scene so much from when I was younger. Though its been a very long time since Ive seen this entire scene. A very long time. Thank for putting it up Shmee89
you forget, this was set during the war, where people of different ethnicities were very rare in england. its not that the people there were racist, but that they found the indian men exotic and unusual, so naturally, they stopped and watched.
yet nobody stops when the carribean calypso players come out? I always found this song to show all of the British Empire, Scotland, The Mainland, Carribean and India. It's really awesome from a historical point of view.
This part of the city of London is one of infinite beauty.

Hay, the guy in uniform at 0:17 to 0:29, is he Australian soldier?
He's wearing the slouch hat, thats why I'm guessing.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Wow, I don't recall a lot of the scenes from here and I saw this movie on VHS. This is MUCH longer than what I recall.

@Garrettk41 He's in 101 Dalmatians too.

@realar I understand that, though nothing seems to be on reccord telling who he voiced. Perhaps you could tell us?
Garrettk41 1 year ago
@Garrettk41 It's because he didn't do a character, he voiced every bark in the film!
realar 1 year ago
Is that a fact? I'll be sidegated. Well, I knew he could do animal sounds- he was the owl in "Sleeping Beauty". I'm submitting that to IMDb.
Garrettk41 1 year ago
@Garrettk41 Good idea.
My grandfather needs more credit.
I plan to place traces of him in my future films.
