Shaan spoiled this song........Anyone who are not acquainted with Bengali folk song or Assamese folk song will not understand this......Just listen to that 'sara ratra'...he sang like a unprofessional ...like playback singers...spoiling the mood of the song......I do not want to use bad words......but I feel like using one or two.....Sourav Moni is just too good ....Shaan should have understood that everyone has a limitation......his voice and mannerism just did not suit this song....

Being a bangladeshi and not indian or pakistani i probably will be able to comment from a neutral perspective.. and the pakistani version is a lot better than the indian.. it is a lot more 'indie' and very non conventional whereas in this chapter.. you have to keep the bollywood people out in order for this to have the whole 'coke studio feel' which is nothing but breaking away from the conventional beats that you hear everyday

me the good old days of my boyhood in east bengal now Bangladesh.many a days i

spent nights in boats and danced with the waves of the rivers.i feel the very flute tune of the boatmen even today. this presentation returned me the purest days.

after watching perhaps the 6th Coke studio India song i figured what is wrong

the problem with the indian chapter of Coke studio is

1. that the producer is leslie from colonial cousins.

2. too many bollywood playback singers

3. the house band is virtually non interactive

What i'd like to see

1. a producer willing to actually give folk music a contemporary arrangement

2. more pop / rock artistes' participation, less bollywood playback singers

3. the house band's participation

Secondly, Leslie has his own gharana ... and somehow its my personal feeling that he somehow has this capability of tweaking all music arrangements into his own style. Agreeing that builds a unique composition, but defeats the purpose of putting up a contemporary tone to the local folk, while holding onto is authentic beauty.

@neerajmadhavan I totally agree with you.I am not quite familiar with the gharana and all that of LL but to be honest - having listened/watched some excellent work from the Pakistan CS, the level of Indian version is not even close-let alone at par or better. Shaan/Kailash Kher -is that all we have? In fact these are the only 2 that are worth even listening/watching...Rest are just..(can't find a word worse than 'disappointing')

People have written off Coke Studio India in their heads before it even aired thinking that it couldnt possibly live up to the Pakistan version. And while that might be a tall order, how can you not like this song? The first episode had a couple of very good songs and others that had some really good parts. The focus in India is a bit more on vocals than in Pakistan. The house band is very much in the background, but that just reflects the culture of music in these two countries.
