Does your outback (the one in the video slaying the snow) have the CVT transmission? I just bought one and I'm hearing the CVT is not so great in the snow.
@buckfush2 Yes, my Outback in this video has the CVT. Lots of people say they do not like the CVT. Personally, I have no problems with it. In fact, I just bought a 2012 Subaru Impreza that also has the CVT and I love it. Sure, it is NOT as cool as a manual, but the fuel economy is much better. The only time I wouldn't want a CVT is if I was buying a WRX!!
Love the video. I just got my 2012 outback and I put general altimax arctic tires on it. The dam thing goes were my buddys truck goes. I love my subaru
Hi, I run the UK Subaru Drive Team, we organise Off road and Circuit/Track driving events for potential Subaru buyers in both Outback and Forester models (Off road) and the STi (Circuit/Track).
I just wish we had that amount of snow here in England, great fun! Impressive driving too!
We use the 2.5 Lineatronic (CVT) Outback which amazes our customers with it's Off Road ability.
Take a look at SubaruVideos channel to see some of our events.
Cool video! Subaru is the king of AWD technology and nothing else can compete with them when it comes to snow. I was blown away the first time i took mine up to the mountain into some deep powder, carved through it like a snowmobile would. Amazing cars!!!
sweet man....thanks for posting a "new" outback video...I'm anxious to see how my 2011 2.5i premium does this winter here in northeast PA...can't wait to take it out and play!
Nice! My old hometown! You guys got a ton of snow this year, huh? I (for some reason) waited til I moved to Boston before I finally bought myself a Subaru, and now I wish I'd had one when I was in Fayetteville. Handles great in the snow and such a solid and fun ride. It boggles my head that you don't see them everywhere. Thanks for uploading!
right on with you're winter fun! i do the same in my 06' outback, MT and it is a blast to say the least. Subaru is truly a cut above the rest when it comes to it's AWD system. have fun and be safe out there this winter all you with you're Subababies.
Why can't other car manufactures be more excited about their cars like subaru? Once I bought mine, I can't even imagine a fw or rwd car anymore, my subaru gets me everywhere...
Thanks for the post. Nice quality video too. Just bought a 2011 Outback 2.5 Limited w/ CVT. Judging by your video and what I read around the net seems the thing to do is shutdown the VDC when running in snow, would you say tha'ts correct? Did yo have it in manual mode and if so what gear did you stay in or were you shifting/in - D - ?
Also, what tires were you running at the time of this video? Thanks -
Stock Continental tires, mostly stayed in "automatic" mode. I down shifted only to control speed going down hill (engine braking). VDC was off for most of the video since VDC will sometimes slow your momentum when driving in deep snow. Congrats on your new Outback!
@weengreen Thanks for the reply & the specifics. While I have a 2008 Jeep JK that is, in my humble opinion, the ultimate 4wd & my go-to vehicle in all terrain and weather - I am curious tho with this Outback. After seeing your video i am anxious next year to test it out.... Thanks again - Matt
@weengreen thanks for showing this!!it´s impressive!!i have driven Outback 2011 in snow and the car was acting good and had a smooth, fine 6-gear manuell box..(I am from Sweden,so I don´t know the right word for technical describe of gearbox,so I hope you understand what I mean:) ) I have a octavia with Haldex 4WD-system,and it´s worthless compared to subaru..!!!

Why do I always seem to find a concrete parking block when I drive like that?

HaHa, amazing. Very deep snow driving in Arkansas.
Dig the snow plowing over the hood shot and the slow motion after 1:55.
Also the Fang Island song is good.
