    wow...

  • true art....

  • wow, very nice, different style... reminds me of a concert held N amman - Jordan once called music matbakh, the idea of using western & oriental instruments togather adds a very nice flavour to music :)

  • what is he saying???????

  • Awesome at 5:09

  • amazing!

  • What the hell is time signature of this piece?

  • It sounds like 11/8 at a fast tempo. To figure out odd time signatures, I've found it useful to tap my hands alternately and then listen for the beginning of the pattern (in this case on the bass) to change hands instead of always landing on the same hand.

  • Its not only 11/8. First they play 11/8 and then they play 12/8 so you might actuallly call it 23/8.

  • I´m thinking 5/4 2 bars then 3/8. But it´s pretty easy when you listen to the riff.

  • haha lets try 5/7 or middle east signature's...:)

  • Amazing! This is what I'll look for if I ever make it to Norway.

  • Ah! Dhafer Youssef and the brilliant Norwegian trio!

  • Woooahh! Fantastic!!

  • Would love to see Dhafer Youssef do an album with Steven Wilson, Wilson on electronic music, Dhafer on Oud and vocals... Would make the world a better place.

And Dhafer's performance is unsurprisingly of equal quality or even better than the album, the world needs more musicians like you that speak to the soul, make us go around the world in our seats :).

  • @yamoontak : Yes !!! Steven Wilson & Dhafer Youssef would be great, along with Murof (Fernando Corona) !

Dhafer makes me more proud of my country's music... it's a shame that I bought a ticket for a cancelled gig (Dark Tranquillity & Paradise Lost) and skiped his concert last month in Tunisia ! :(

  • przecudowne!!!

  • He is great!

  • Is Dhafer touring scandenavia any soon?

  • awsome...never heard such beautiful music before in my life...

  • His collaboration with Nils Petter Molvaer is also great!

  • Its the dawning of a new Yanni!

  • this guy nowhere close to yanni... yanni's beyond boring.

  • ...hva??

  • Great I love this sort of music.

Can anyone of you tell me. How the album is?

Because I think about to buy it.

  • album is great... got a lot of variety, from heavy electronic to really "world" chilling tunes.

  • Oh thank you! Variety is very important to make music, that doesn`t bore the audience!

  • ROCKING ALBUM mUST bUY

  • Thnx Audunerlien...

    This totally rocks...

Holy lie the 9nth track in Digital Prophecy its definitely the most uplifting song i have heard and my personal Dhafer Youssef favorite. upload more please.

  • Beautiful. I saw them in Nottingham UK in November 2005. Never seen or heard anything like it before in my life. Dhafer is amazing and yes it does send tingles up the spine and you must see them live! I am a drummer, and frankly, I cannot begin to describe what I think of the drumming - it is perfect for the music, haunting, ever present but constantly evolving throughout the music. I cannot replicate it. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

  • This is really great! Any plans for a gig in Gothenburg, Sweden in the near future? ;). Would love to see it live!

  • Great musician, I met him in Bath Jazz Festival and I got his signature on two albums !!

Thank you for this excellent video.

  • saw Dhafer Youssef life in the netherlands, with Nguyen Lê and Fresu.

a concert i will never forget i guess, such brilliance...

  • Fantastic! Beautiful! Thank you!

  • this what i call true art.the guy has the best voice on the scene these days.i challenge if you can find any better voices nowaday than his.he works with great muscians.his music is truley original.and i think he's still underrated as a world jazz musican considering his genius work.

  • This is fantastic. All the muso's were great, but special mention to Dhafer and the drummer, and I also really liked the bass playing, especially at the start with all the different articulations and such tremendous feel.

    Just excellent music.

  • ledocteur79,

    I hear you!

  • Undoubtedly, THE Musician of our age! Master of three music schools; Arabic (sufi), Classical Indian, cutting edge contemporary western/scandinavean jazz. Fusion music/jazz at its most wonderful best!

I was at his consert in Oslo...gave me goosebumps and all and in no time I was in tears out of sheer ecstasy! May God preserve Dhafer! Oh! he has some wonderful musicians around him too!

  • Although amazing, this video doesn't even come close to his live performance... He's a trip. I wonder whether he has DVDs of his live performances. In his Beirut concert, he was putting live music in a sequencer while he was on stage, and constructing more than 8 loops on the fly to make a full background for his music. A true world-class virtuoso, still way under appreciated. Keeps on building momentum in his career.. . A bonus is his very genuine and friendly smile all the time. Awesome.

  • Dhafer Youssef is probably the most beautiful musical artist i have ever come across, doesn't anyone else get that amazing feeling when he sings?

  • Because you have opened this... you will get kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life... if you don't break the chain. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However, if you don't send this to at least 3 people by the stroke of midnight tonight you will be forever cursed in love. Just copy and paste this.. Good Luck!

  • Go Dhafer go...up to the sky...your oud vibes in my soul...

  • GREAT! This is te kind of music that should be more developed nowadays.Perfect combination hard and soft elements of music, yin and yan, capable of creating the most sublime feelings. This music can heal the sick souls of modern stressed soceity.More D.Y.´s would make this world sooo beautifull. Just a pitty that this is against the interests of the big discographics.I bet, if D.Y. gets famous, he would die in "mysteriouses circumstances" (like Marley, Lennon, Buckley...)

  • great great musician. this is the true contemporary fusion music. please post more of his videos. and thanks a lot for this.

  • bravo!

  • Fantastic piece. It's actually from Divine Shadows album (2006). Digital Prophecy (also great) was released in 2003, I guess. Thanks for postin it anyhow!

  • i would appreciate if you have some more of videos of the performance. he came to istanbul while im in germany and he will be in germany while i'm in istanbul :) someday i'll listen live. thanks for the video.

  • amazing what cd is this on and is all the songs like this

  • Just check the main info here, then check info/reviews on Amazon.

I can tell you that he doesn't sing on all his songs, maybe 2-3 per album. But his oud/ud playing is there of course!

  • I saw the same at 27.10.06 in Cologne. Great Great Great!

    Tak Audun!

  • though I still like "Malak" best, last album of D.Y. and that song are totally fantastic

but those lights in the background... arrrgh...

  • It's spine tickling even on the video, I don't want to imagine how it must feel live. Brilliant singing and a great ryhthm section.

  • Instrumental "intro" of 3'40'' to set the atmosphere; then Dhafer Youssef shows some of his extraordinary vocal skills!

I can garantuee you : live, this is spine tickling!!!

Just a hint of what he is able of.

Thanks a lot for the posting!! I hope to see more Dhafer Youssef videos here!

  • Beautiful! Intriguing - it took me away. Thanks for sharing. I am definitly looking forward to discovering this quartet . What a great space
