  • for those of you wondering, "follow the rainbow sun" refers to Billy Twofeather's train the rainbow sun, played by Strasburg Railroad's engine #475 in Thomas and the magic railroad, or, played by Union Pacific's F-E-F #844 here

  • There is a moment in every American adult's life, when you're reminiscing about that magical time known as childhood, and you're thinking about all of those wonderful shows that you watched, when it dawns on you...holy shit, George Carlin was in a children's show.

  • @electrogeek77 Yup exactly!! I saw George Carlin in Scary Movie 3, and then it popped in my head that we was on Thomas the tank engine and holy crap it blew my mind. Now here I am at age 25, downloading episodes onto my hard drive.

  • always confused me as a kid that they'd put UP 844 in the intro sequence then never talk about anything american ever again.

  • Nostalgia boner...

  • Good times at Shining Time.

  • You don't mess with Thomas... he can transform into OpThomas Prime

  • @BobbyRossRacing93 I feel you, man. Lookin' back on this old shit does that to me now and again, too. I miss those days.

  • I first saw George Carlin on this show as a kid.. then I saw his comedy... oh Irony how I love you.

  • @manwithoutfear05 wasn't it strange when you first saw "the conductor" use profanity. Dude notorious for it. Who knew...

  • CARLIN!

  • LMFAO George Carlin. Awesome.

  • This is how Thomas got started in the US! I LOVE THOMAS!!!!!

  • I USED TO LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE THIS SHOWWWWWWW OMGGGG!! brings back memories..."shining time station"

  • this is true Thomas the Tank Engine, not the shit thats on now a days

  • WHY isn't this on DVD? I mean seriously we got Thomas the Tank engine (which IMO were the most boring parts of Shining Time Station). Please DVD companies if you have anything resembling a heart please put Shining Time Station on DVD please.

  • God I miss Shining Time Station.

The same goes for Mr. Conductor, the late George Carlin.

  • Before I clicked on this video I couldn't remember any of the song but as soon as it started playing I remembered everything. So many memories from this show came flooding back.

  • GENIUS TIME, GENIUS TIME.

    I still say that....

  • I miss those days

  • Does this show not still exist? My nephew loves Thomas the Tank Engine.

  • @ BobbyRossRacing93 i am doing the same; every time i see the ending credits of shinig time station.

  • Back when kids shows were in their prime.

  • I hated the juke box puppets. I always had this weird feeling about them being trapped in there. What did they eat? What did they do when they weren't playing music? Yeah, my imagination took these shows a bit too far for my age.

  • I used to love this show so much! But the cpb logo right before it used to scare me. The background was so dark and the announcer's loud voice in the background didn't help either. I think I was most scared of the version in this video because of the announcer. Doesn't bother me anymore though

  • I remember the puppet from the jukebox with the nickel fetish xD also mss the lil conductors.

  • This was my FAV show as a kid, along with Eeureka's Castle and Under The Umbrella Tree! I was obsessed with all three! We had episodes of this on VHS.

  • OMG! such memories

  • Shining Time Station, man that makes me miss the old Thomas the Tank Engine, all toy trains on a set made by a professional mini modeler with no CGI involved at all. Listening to the Jukebox Band play their songs, Stacy's kindness, Mr. Conductors stories, and Skeezer's sneaky ways (as well as the ugly hairdue of his O.o). and, omg, even the train engineer xD

  • i suddenly feel like i'm 5 again! :)

  • This was my favorite show growing up, and, it still is. I wish we had Shining Time Station in syndication for the new generation and a DVD release for those of us who grew up on Shining Time Station. Hell, if it was still in syndication, I'd watch all the episodes all over again.

  • @TheUnknownAvenger It was my favorite too. Todays shows are crappy. And some of them are just plain gross!

  • Oh my god oh my god oh my god! My childhood!

  • I remember this

  • This brings tears to my eyes. This was MY show when I was a kid and it's still infinity times better than any kid show on TV today no matter how good their "animations" are.

I had so many of these episodes recorded until MOM had to go record soap operas on top of them. >:(

  • @ibaneziceman2007 I hear you, kids these days have horrible shows...times have changed for the worse

  • When I got older and I realized that George Carlin was on this lmao!

  • man, I feel old watching this... I remember this when i was younger. its too bad the lil kids dont have good programming to watch anymore

  • @DFrnkln06 Heck, The shows today don't intrest me anymore. So I go on my laptop and see my childhood again. But I didn't know this show was in the late 80's and early 90's.

  • @SuperFlashDriver yeah I remember it being on the air in the early 90s but didn't know about the late 80s

  • ahh nostalgia.

  • @Starbright1984 I loved trains to.

  • I just got chills when i heard this song. That was the young innocent days...

  • I absolutley loved this show when I was a kid. I really do miss my childhood :(

  • The memories of my childhood!

  • i thank this show for makin me the thomas fan i am :)

  • Our generation was so blessed to have shows like this. Watching this over again really does get me emotional. I had a great childhood.

  • I balled out crying :(

  • AND BRING BACK GEORGE CARLIN ;(

  • BRING BACK THE OLD CPB LOGO BRING IT BAAACK!

  • God, this show. <3 The opening/end theme always made me so sad.

Schemer was my favorite character. XD

  • I loved it when they went inside the jukebox

  • This the REAL Thomas show!!?!

  • @regin2005 Nah,ours came first.

  • Nostalgia!

  • This show was my favorite. It should come back.

  • kudos to this show if it werent for this i wouldnve been into thomas as a kid

  • the 7 dislikers are diesel engines!

the 180 likers are steam engings :) !

No one likes diesels they are not very nice.

Steam rises diesel falls. Plus the smell of diesel engins is bad enough i love good old steamers. :) :) :)

  • I KNEW I WASNT CRAZY I KNEW THIS SHOW EXISTED!

  • @panterafancfh It's hard to deny George Carlin and Didi con

  • @panterafancfh LMFAOOO

  • Damn this was the best and the Tomas the Tank engine segments were real scale models, and none of this CGI nonsense!

  • @ObiTrev yeah buddy! CGi is a cheap and lazy way to make childrens cartoons!

  • @Djsimonroc88 george carlin was better he's american!

  • YAH GEORGE CARLIN

  • was a great show. we have video tapes of some of the episodes somewhere.

  • good times...

Back then when TV didn't suck

I loved this show as a kid

  • Rip Carlin

and 7 people are diesel engines!

  • This was my favorite show when I was little

  • R.I.P George Carlin.

  • wasn't ringo starr the conductor at one point?

  • @sheemobile in season 1 and season 1 thomas

  • @sheemobile I think a bit in the first season. Then he left and Carlin took his place.

  • @fabiandesignz you're right.

  • Visit elijahTP

  • and ringo star was conductor to

  • I still can't believe that George Carlin was Mr. Conductor.

  • wow memories

  • AAAAAh this is wat I've been trying to find....for some reason I thought it was called the magic railroad -_-

  • @CoreysOldLady -That's because it WAS magic XD

  • @Crazygirl1910 :D (gasp!)

  • This show was better than SpongeBob, Dora and Deigo, and crap Barney!

  • god i miss pbs shows like this one, Oh Btw schemer was always my favorite shining time station charicter, in fact i remember when i was about 5 or 6, i had a dream that i was riding on a flying horse, until i heard him calling out for help, i saw him, and he was running from two guys who was on a motorcycle, and i told the flying horse to fallow them, and the two guys was about to get him, when the flying horse dived-bomb on them, and i told schemer got on, and he got on, and we flew off.

  • :( when i was 4 i had a dream schemer was dead inside of a glass coffin and then suddenly he opened his eyes and came after me and grabbed me by the legs....im 22 now...sigh*........lol

  • When I was a teenager, I found out that George Carlin was a hugely famous comedian. I watched a bit of his act and freaked out when I realized he was Mr. Conductor!

  • @bananas1and2 I first heard of him from Cars where he did the voice of Filmore. and I'm a big movie nerd so I go on IMDB a lot and I was surprised to find out that he was also Mr. Conductor . I was also surprised to find out that one of the Beatles was Mr. Conductor before him.

  • Ringo was a better Conductor than Carlin.

  • I remember seeing this on SCETV when I was a kid.

  • I cried SO hard when they cancelled this.

  • I'm suprised George Carlin was the Conductor. You know Ringo Star was the Conductor for the first season of this show? Still..... We will all miss you george carlin

  • This brings back memories.

  • Who ever wrote the shining Time Station can you please put it back on tv start from the old episodes and work the way up to season 1 then 2 then 3 I miss the show so much so please put it back on tv so everybody could watch it

  • it is a good show

  • This makes me so sad, yet so happy. i remember the days of being little and watching it every morning. It was a true classic. I miss those days. Now Thomas is computer-animates, which I think takes out the magic of the stories they tell. And the narrator now is horrible in my opinion. Love live the days of Shining Time Station with Ringo Starr and George Carlin!!!

  • @3dgl0ver Yeah, I don't know why everything is going cumputer animates, it' just dosen't have the same magic as when we where kids.

  • @SnowflakeSparkles26 , nowadays it's just becoming cheaper to go CGI, easier on the production side of things. It's a real shame, though, CGI dates so easily....the stuff they're using for the show doesn't look that good now, it's gonna look repulsive in five years...there really is a magic to the old model stuff, it's just so beautiful to look at....it looks just as good as it ever did...

  • i soo remember this show althogh i was at the point where i was just going to outgrow shows like this.

  • Didi Conn (Stacy Jones) was in Grease as Frenchy.

  • The best theme song for a kids' show ever.

  • This was and will always be my favorite show, when Thomas the Tank Engine didn't need any computer animation to be good.

  • nostalgia.

  • I used to watch this when I was like 3! I baaaarely remember this!

  • This takes me back. Simpler times... I remember being a kid sitting and watching this show and being bored because I wanted something with action. Looking back now I yearn for the serene atmosphere of Shining Time Station.

  • @Ninjamohawk They do need a DVD release of this, restored. It's good to just sit back and relax watching the simple stories.

  • i used to watch this in the 90's!! :)

  • Goodness, i adore the 90s!

  • 90s TV Shows > Current Crap Shows - That's right.. I'm looking at you Hannah Montana & The Suite Life of Retard and Moron. (Zack & Cody) FUCK today's shows.. bring back the classics like this, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, Rupert Bear, Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Groundling Marsh etc etc, I can go on... fuck, really do miss my childhood, should of lived it like a king, go well.. someone go built a time machine please.

  • @tripleredx your right about todays shows man they are shiit!!

i actually enjoy shows from back in the day

  • i wish they would air this again for the fans (us) our newborn and small children can see this. I mean, I would be very happy for my neice to see this

  • I remember I love this song

  • ugh, why did legendary shows like this have to die out...

  • @allstar00442288 I know it - I miss this show. :(

  • I had all of the Thomas toys from the late 90's I still have 'em

  • Shows like this taught kids that trains are friendly. This is why when I was younger every year someone would come teach train safety at my school.

  • ahhhhhhh holy crap its been a long time since ive seen this opening again. this brings a tear to my eye. this show was like crack to me as a little kid and i used to have all of the toys that they made for this show

  • There were two conductors, Ringo Star was the first and then it was George Carlin

  • This brings back memories. I loved "Shining Time Station" as a little kid. I was crazy about trains, and I loved Thomas. Even though I'm 18 now, I still like to find and watch these old videos every now and then - takes me back.

  • Ahhhhhh......the memories!

  • i watched this growin up now every time i see thomas on tv i thought of this show tho could not remebr the name til today after looking it up was great

  • I... I just shed a tear.

This song is so soothing and great. I remember watching this very opportunity I got. Made me forget those horrible days at school (yes, elementary school sucked for me).

  • @Bandeto im sorry 2 hear that elementary school sucked for you.. it kinda suckked 4 me as well but sadly i never got 2 watch this because it went off he air in 2000. i only watched it in preschool

  • @Bandeto I with you on that, brother.

  • I finally found this!!! Thank you so much, I had sooooo much fun watching this as a kid.

  • Thank you SO MUCH for posting these! I've missed this show so much, and wish it would come out on DVD.

  • I loved this show when i was a kid!!

  • for those of you who like Shining Time Station, I have found "Just Wild About Harry's Workshop" on MySpace

  • Holy shit....I just got goosebumps...I haven't seen this since in years...I used to watch this all the time

  • Watching this and the ending credits solved the mystery of these dreams i've had [random trains going onward into nowhere, exactly like in the intro and ending]. I guess I watched this so much as a kid it just became engraved in my mind but I forgot where it came from. Dreams are so creepy like that.

  • Anyone have ep when cast changes over? When I started watching; Billy & George Carln as Mr Conductor...

  • wow i used to watch this everyday when i was a kid

  • man pure nostalgia this was my childhood show lmao i still rember george carlin as mr conductor and finding out he was a comedian and i asked my mom if i can see some of his comedy and she just kind of looked at me wide eyed and said abosolutley not ur to young, and now i realize why i couldnt watch him and now im a huge fan of his comedy

  • I loved this show so much when I was a kids I live for this show I knw when it would come on I never missed it I still love it I love trains that is why I love it so also it make me think of be in a kid again. I wish I could go bak to thouse days and live as a young boy.

  • Now there's something I haven't seen in sixteen years!

  • This never aired in austraila

but when i found this on youtube it really made me think of all the good memories i had when i was a kid!!!!

  • I used to love this show. This clip brings back so many memories!

  • @redneckgal427 I WAS SOOO SMALL!!

  • wait wait wait, WHAT? George Carlin? THE George Carlin? I knew who Ringo Starr was, but I never made the connection between this conductor and the comedian. Mind=Blown

  • pop. 5006

    give or take...

memories that i will never forget from my childhood

  • The train at the first, I'm guessing by the scenery it's either SP or UP?

  • In the credits later on it show it pulling yellow coaches so ut must be up.

  • UP 844

  • @tjmfishing That's UP #844, one of two steam engines operated by UP and the only steam engine to never be officially retired by a major railroad.

  • I wish they could bring this back to tv with reruns or a whole new season with alec baldwin as mr.conductors 3rd cousion but yet how will they get ahold of tom jackson and didi conn and brian o'connor and the flexitoon company and yet dan becky and kara are all grown up. so it would be impossible to make a new season so i hope the dvd boxed set does get released.

  • Boy i miss this show. i miss the good ol days. R.I.P George Carlin.

  • Brings tears to my eyes im so glad i have all the Shining time station VHS tapes but still its a shame it doesnt come on tv anymore *sniffle* good ol days of PBS

  • does anyone know the lyrics for the song?

  • maybe this will help.

    Reach for the speed

    Reach for the whistle

Go where the rail may run

    Reach for the words

    Reach for the story

    Follow the Rainbow Sun

    To a Shining Time Station

    Where dreams can come true

    Waiting there for you

  • thank you

  • y was this show canceled? this was a great show! of course it was replaced by theodore tugboat & i thought tht show was lame!

  • My god, I LOVED this show! I was never a big fan of Thomas the Tank Engine, but I loved the in-between stuff at the station with Mr. Conductor and the kids. I always found it odd that someone like George Carlin would do a kid's show, but it simply shows how talented a person he was. Definitely my favorite conductor on the show, as well as one of my favorite comedians when I became older. RIP Mr. Carlin.

Also, the theme song never fails to make me a bit teary... that and the theme to Babar. =P

  • @singinglawnchair

That show was beautiful in terms of overall quality of how a children's show should be and I watched it like 10 years ago.

  • this show was fucking awsome back in the day!

but seriously people, who actually uses the train nowadays? Nobody does, how fucking sad!!!

  • @outtatime4you LoL..trains are one of the top means of transportation all around Europe. I know they're not used as much as they used to be in Canada, maybe even North America.. but MANY people still use trains nowadays.

Yea...gotta say..LOVED this show when I was younger! Aww, I miss it! Mr. Conductor!!...he was awesome!!

  • I haven't seen this is in over 13 years i loved this show I remembered the theme word for word and all the characters like Becky, Stacey jones, Billy two feathers, Mr Conducter(George Carlin), and of course who coould forget the Juke Box puppets and their master Scheimer the owner of the arcade lol

  • George Carlin was the Conductor?!?!?!?!?! WOW.

  • and a good conductor he was

  • @levanyzzuf Ringo Starr was the original conductor, that's even more mesed up

  • @levanyzzuf

The first time I ever saw Carlin! Reading his autobiography makes it even stranger in retrospect

  • @levanyzzuf That's right! George Carlin was the G*DD@#N conductor! lol

  • @levanyzzuf My thoughts exactly! Well, sorta! I mean, my first time seeing George Carlin was on this show (it's pretty much my childhood), then I saw his comedy specials and I was like damn, I had no idea he could be so raunchy! Hahahaha

  • Dude. Like I also remember watching this show when I was a kid. I remember the puppets that rock in the jukebox, the conductor, and Thomas the Tank Engine.

  • I loved this sho
