  • Love you all, Buy bondo or Cabo Patch instead of mixing pros aid and cabosil....Cabosil powder is not a healthy ingredient to use anymore. It thickens everything it touches including your lungs...gnarly time..

  • @MarkyMakeUpDotCom I agree that Cabosil is a gnarly substance. Thanks for the word on Cabo Patch. Are you talking about "Car Bondo"?

  • @stopmotionmagazine No Not Pink hard car bondo that you can sand and paint No. Its premixed. its a similar substance you making only premixed. Its used by make up artist to blend the edge of foam latex appliances. Same thing you mixed only different formula and premade. :-) safer all around. :-)

  • how would you make it so the eyes could move?

  • I was thinking, could I make a skull head out of "Oven-Bake Clay" or "Fast Steel Epoxy" also jaw too! So maybe I'll use some wire inside the jaw, attach the upper head; underneath the head, to make it up and down. And then I can use another wire, attach the head; underneath the head too, on the upper body; to make a whole head!

Look at Stop Motion Magazine: Issue #8

    Mighty Joe Young

  • Can we cut the face to make a mouth to open. Could we put the wire inside the mouth, so it can move up and down.

  • @henryadrain14 You will want to build the mouth shape when you are sculpting the puppet. Next you'd mold it and then you'd cast it with the wire built into the mouth. Cutting it into the puppet would look sloppy, but is possible.

  • Seriously, your tutorial is the best on the internet!

I am really excited to see the next tutorial?

It will be released in spring?

    THANKS!

  • @calarok Video 7 is up now.

  • Great tutorial! Thx!

  • @stopmotionmagazine

hey once the puppet has all been finshed can you move it for stop motion

  • @illhavethechips That's what it's built for. Probably shot paint it first. check out video 7 on how to do that.

  • is there coming a video 7?

  • @speedygonzales2222 Yes in the Spring.

  • @speedygonzales2222 Video 7 is up now...

  • Thanks a million! really helpful

  • I read somewhere that 'Copydex' (UK) - latex based rubber cement mixed with OIL PAINTS not acrylic made a good flexible paint for normal slush method latex masks. Mineral spirits to dilute. Perhaps proprietary latex paint specifically for masks would be better.

  • Love these videos so helpful. Have Video 7 come out yet? Thanks,,

  • Hi, great videos - really helpful. Some questions - can I color the foam latex during the casting process by mixing in paint - if so what kind is best? Also, can I airbrush the doll's face for detail? Does the paint "crack" if the latex is stretched? Are certain paints more "stretchable" than others? Many Thanks.

  • @bouncestudio You can use water based liquid acrylic paint added to the beginning of the mix cycle. But I think it's a bad idea since you can ruin your foam. Also the foam may react to the acrylic during the chemical mixing. It's best to paint you puppet with a 50/50 mix of acrylic paint and Prosaide. This is called PAX paint and it can be thinned with water and airbrushed. Just make sure you mix the PAX completely to get the lumps desolved. Then pat it down with corn starch.

  • well i like this

  • Do you have to worry about fumes when using the soldering iron on the latex, and can you still use the soldering iron for soldering after you used it for latex?

  • @lizardguy9 You should not use the soldering iron for soldering once you've used it for seaming. Definitely don't inhale the fumes directly, Yuck! You should seam the puppet in a well ventilated area. Have Fun and Good Luck!

  • is hot foam latex hard to learn as i live in a high humdity and dont have much temp control or will it be easyer to practice with silicon translusent? as gm foam is expensive hear in australia 950 bucks for 5 gal. u make it look like iceing

  • @kforcool I've been making foam in High Humidity. Something like 80% humidity and have had great and amazing results. I would only buy a one gallon kit when starting out. That stuff lasts a long time. I prefer Foam over Silicone. It's cheaper and easier to work with when painting. Plus its not as messy and not as toxic. But I do use both materials. Depends on the build.

  • @stopmotionmagazine could you put liquid latex on the foam latex for texture instead of sculpting it?

  • @wilsonrussell44 You can use Liquid latex on the foam once it's baked. But it usually yields poor results since they are two different types of texture. Build up puppets are great to make with Liquid Latex though. And there is a method for using a sculpting technique with Foam Latex that there will be a video for in the future.

  • what was the brown thing on the face?

  • @rhian56 checkout the "fixing a Sctached Ultracal30 mold" in our channel. Its caused by the repair of the mold with "Fast Steel" and is only temporary and doesn't effect the latex and paint if done right.

  • Yeah... I'm not even into this. i sculpt with clay and watched all your video's.. Thanks for sharing! Great job!

  • Dude! Thank you for taking a lot of the mystery out of this process!
