  • That was the shitiest thing that could have happened to me.

  • Im fuckin terrified of Shane McGowan! Now Im gonna have nightmares, aaahhahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

  • aahh jees, this is not the version i wanted! i typed in iggy pop, and this one came up, go figure....

  • does anyone know if each artist recorded the whole song or just the sections they sang in the video, and if so are their versions available on cd?

  • how many of u guys replay this again n again??

  • @freeurwifenow me lol

  • where is the fucking ORIGINAL one?

  • How come Tom Jones and Heather Small sounds exactly the same!

  • 1:49 NICE TEETH DUDE

  • reminds me of days i would rather forget RUSSAIN BITCH

  • happy perfect day 10/10/10!

  • It's very funny that Mr. Reed wouldn't give permission to Susan Boyle to sing this song on US tv (because he "isn't a fan"). She had to storm off in a huff. She's such a sore loser! She wanted to be famous, now she is & she doesn't know how to handle it. She's showing the world why she was an old spinster in small town Scotland.

Just because she can sing, doesn't mean that she's cut out to be a star.

    Dignity, Susan, dignity & grace.

This really is a gorgeous song.

    Thanks Mr. Reed.

  • @CrystalMoonLady

    oh, i so agree.

  • Great! We Jews must keep together. Bob Dylan, Andy Warhol, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, and the whole factory.

  • Please use this as an example as to why you should never touch a classic!!! This sucks in every way possible.

  • My favour song

  • The voice of Heather Smalls is in my opinion what makes this version of the song better than the original.

  • Yes it is perfect day - perfect stars !

  • man it's Shane!!! the poet!

  • "Its such fuuuunn..." woah...did he get in a fight?

  • Michael Hutchence isn't in this it's Evan Dando

  • Nice ... but it's a shame it's commercial.

  • Comment removed

  • Ian Broudie: "Its...soch...a pair-feckt day"....LOL

  • Dear David Bowie, it's always a perfect day with you...

  • I agree he is perfect, jesteś najlepszy!!

  • Spoko, David Bowie rządzi!!! Facet jest po prostu genialny!

  • I used to love playing this game lol:

Lou Reed, Bono, Moloko, Bowie, Suzanne Vega, Elton John, Boyzone, Lesley Garrett, ?, Bono, ?, Heather Smalls, Emmylou Harris, Dusty Springfield, Shane McGowen, Dr. John, Bowie, Robert Cray, Hewie, Lightening Seeds, Gabrielle, Dr. John, Evan Dando, Emmylou Harris, Courtney Pine, Suede, Joan Armatrading, ? (Lou Reed's missus!), Heather Smalls, Tom Jones, Heather Smalls, Lou Reed!

  • After Lesley Garrett is a man called Burning

Spear and after Bono is Sir Thomas Allen then the Brodsky Quartet After Courtney Pine is bono then Brett Anderson then the Visual Ministry Choir followed by Laurie Anderson

  • After Lou Reed and Bono is Sky Edwards, no?

  • those were the days, british music still had a global appeal. I still buy only Brit music cos Americans are getting on my damn nerves.

this song was catchy, Heatha small's voice really added an extra soulful touch to the video.oh ! Gabrielle and U2 were there too.

  • Who's that at 1:49, the fuckin wolfman?

  • Shane MacGowan, from The Pogues, ( you know, the guy who sang Fairytale of New York with Kirsty McColl?), he's a total legend mate!!

  • Shane MacGowan of the pogues!

  • gr8 song

  • Man.... I wish I would have have sen all these people together on stage.... That would have been the closext you can be to heaven without dieing. But, I think only one person was able to get so many people to together in life and her name was The Late Great.... Celia Cruz.......

as she would say..... AZUCA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That what I think of this vidio

  • I have the behind the scenes video of this that came free with the radio times! Great promo, and my favourite ever! Great song and good artists!

  • Heather Small is my favourite and Tom is too!

  • que temazo!!!

  • Holy hell, what an abortion. Why would Lou Reed let an absolute masterwork be butchered like this? I realize years of heroin abuse and fecal consumption can addle the brain, but this is just inexcusable. This is the equivalent of Pat Boone doing Long Tall Sally. Please listen to the original and then listen to this again. If you still like this has an redeeming features at all, hang yourself. Your already dead on the inside.

  • You asked us to listen to the song.... But did you listen to what you said?

Are you human? Since that song came out, the would has changed many times over..

Many people listen to it and make up there own meaning.... So please dont be so hard on people... Mr Bush made sure of that... Let you not be apart of that...

  • Thank you... great job... I never realized this song was so powerful.

  • Love the clarinet solo at 2:40. Is as powerful as a rock guitar solo.

  • Its a soprano sax. And your right, Kenny G has way more to offer the world than Mick Ronson.

  • Kenny G? It's Courtney Pine!!! The difference between them couldn't be more obvious unless you haven't heard any Courtney Pine. He doesn't do elevator trash.

  • I love this song :)

    Go Boyzone(!)

  • What a cool song .I think the Opera singing girl is the best ! The song is a good attitude to take to life...

  • I so loved this song - still fabulous and gets right to you - perfecto!

  • why does bono have to rape his way into everything? and why did tom jones only get one part?

  • lmao brilliant comment, haha

  • I completely agree. Tom's voice is ace and fits perfectly. Bone On's is weak and shit.

  • Agreed 100% about Sir Tom Jones, aka "The Voice"

  • Sin duda Bono ofrece la voz más calida de todos los que cantan en este gran tema.

  • I had almost forgotten about this song! Shame on me!

    Such a perfect SONG!:-)

  • lol at 1:50

  • ye you would be laughin at one of the best songwriters ever, so id stop laughing if i was you moron

  • at 2:30 who is that man??

  • I believe that's Evan Dando, the leader of The Lemonheads.

  • It's actually Michael Hutchence and given the year this was recorded the line he sings is either hilarious or prophetic.

  • Looks like one of the chaps from Take That

  • It's actually Michael Hutchence and given the year this was recorded the line he sings is either hilarious or prophetic.

  • Are you talking about the guy at 2.30? That's Evan Dando from the Lemonheads I think.

  • Just a perfect mess

  • I still find it funny to this day that the BBC used this song to promote variety of music it has given what the song is about lmao

  • Sir Thomas Allen... though he was/is a baritone opera singer!

  • More stars than a Woolworths Christmas ad!

No, it wasn't done for charity. It was done as a promotion for the BBC showing the diversity of their music output. Due to public demand, it was released as a single, with proceeds going to charity as an afterthought. I wonder if anyone can remember the name of the operatic tenor they put in for balance?

  • Lesley Garratt . They did it fir Children in need, and they brought a documentary on video with the Radio times showing how they made it which I still have!

  • No she isn't a tenor, that's a male voice part. She is a soprano. I was wondering who the tenor was.

  • Hello.

I think you're referring to Sir Thomas Allen and he's actually a baritone.

  • Thanks. Well I suppose he must be a bit well-known to have got a knighthood!

  • in spite of all i love bowie

  • One of the worst covers ever. Shame on Lou Reed!! He doesnt deserve the talent he has. How could they dare to destroy and rape such a beautiful and special song?

  • but didnt he write this??

  • I think they did this for charity, and if so, it's better than the usual tripe they drum up, like, some bullshit song being covered by Westlife, this is a fucking ace cover of an amazing song.

  • lol dont u mean boyzone?

  • Heather Small sounds a bit like freddy mercury in this song or is it just me?

  • Yes... is perfect day, ... every day!!! Thank you and kiss you!!!

  • Woo! BBC!

  • this song always makes me cry :(

  • Ditto.

  • me3

  • This is a kool video. Anywhere to find out who the less-obvious performers are? They advertise the BBC because the BBC made this as some kind of fund-raiser for kids.

  • You can find it at wikipedia, there's a whole list

  • what was all that about at the end? With the bbc shit? Spoilt a decent song, like they're saying, 'you've watched this video now watch our channel, kretin'

  • lol i love your logic

  • The BBC payed for and made the video for the purpose of showing the diversity of music they have on their radio stations.

  • "you just keep me hanging on" at 2:35 is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Beautiful! every time I heard that part I was almost crying for beautifulness.

    An iconic video!

  • i love it thank you

  • Was this song for some kind of bebefit, and when did it come out?? I love it!!

  • Love it or hate it ( and I love it) I can't think of a single recording in history that is more important - Its up there with Liveaid, but more important for me, as it was 10 years later and more people understood what was being said.

This track has everybody from Lou Read to Boyzone - Mpeople to Tom Jones, Burning Spar to Doctor Hook..it is a truly eclectic collection of what the world can do to recognise a charitable need..beautiful
