  • Even drugged up Marion Jones couldn't come near Flo-Jo record...this is hillarious :D

  • she died as a clean sportswoman. never gave a positive dop test. Anyway, everyone understands, that she was doped. Unfortunately there are hundreds of similar cases, which now are making money with their untrue and lieful carreer. Everywhere in this world.

  • well if flojos 100m record is in doubt , i say this one is gonna be untouched till theres a female version of bolt around

  • No - there are no "evidence" that she took drugs - just like there were none with Marion Jones - until she admitted it. Just look at the evidence though - every one of the women's short distance records (100m to 800m) are 20-25 years old (coincidentally before random drug testing was implemented). No one has ever come close to them. Flo Jo's physique dramatically changed in a short period - as did her times. She went from being average to untouchable. New training regimes my ass!

  • The "records" set in womens athletics during the 1980's are, I'm sad to say, an absolute JOKE. None worse than the USA's "Flo Jo" at 100m and 200m, closely followed by the 400m and 800m "records" set by Jarmila Kratochvílova. These 4 "records" will never be beaten. An absolute disgrace and embarrassment to the sport, and deep down everyone knows it.

  • WELL, DOPED OR NOT, SHE IS A LEGEND.

  • @sequiaonda78 "Doped or not she is a legend?" Err no. Doped = disgraced cheat. Not doped = legend. There's quite alot of evidence she was the former

  • @MrSyrett lol...just marion jones...shes a legend too

  • What's all that excessive make-up hiding?

    *cough* drug effects *cough

Oh no, not an American athlete! No, never!

  • @krakenwave florence was one of the first and only to start "making herself up" for her races. waaay back in 82, when other women came to the track looking like they just rolled outta bed, she always had make up, ribbons in her hair and nails done to match. So unless she was using drugs in high school, the make up was hiding nothing.

  • Flo jo will always be my favorite female sprinter.

  • so sad...death by steroids...nobody to blame except herslf. Her voice changed and she even started to grow a mustache.

  • She ran a world record in the semi @ 21.56 and then in the final she ran another world record @ 21.33 now that's a clear indicator that she's on roids. Before the semi the world record was 21.71 so in two race she took off .38 of a second another indicator of roids, plus she retired when IAAF announced manditory off season testing when she was just 28yrs old.

  • @dawgyblack faulty logic. because someone breaks a record in semi final and final, they are on roids? breaking a record by a huge margin does not equal a druggie. Men did it in the 100, 200, 400 and the LJ. No one's ever accused those wr holders of using drugs.

  • @CHEETAH69 wake up.....lol. just look at her history, meets and training. look at others that dominated for a period....this isnt basketball where a guy shoots better or developes a low post game...

  • @Bexly unfortunately, it's gonna take more than a mere "look" to convict someone of using drugs. I don't discount the questionable nature of her ascension. But she passed the same tests that Ben Johnson failed. So that, to me, is all I need.

  • @CHEETAH69 i'm sorry, i assumed you had an understanding of these things.1st. one person caught doesnt mean the next one is. there are many types of PEDs out there and have been for years. this shit isnt new. its been around many years. you do realize that marion jones confessed, while tori edwards was caught....look, this is some complex shit. and if anyone fits the profile, flo jo does. i'll always be a fan but i remember all those evelyn ashford and brisco hooks whoopins'....even back to ucla

  • @Bexly don't assume that because I don't come to your conclusions, that I don't understand. I know there's a bunch of stuff out there that was probably undectable. will I be shocked if it comes out that there's proof of FloJo's drug use? Probably not. But until that test, I have to line up with the belief that she was clean. FloJo's rise looked suspicious. But Marion's didn't. And yet she was doping.

  • @CHEETAH69 two things.....1) you say "until a test" well you already know that will never happen. and 2) Marions was suspicious...she lost eligability outta hs and had to hire johnny cochran when she was young and every negro she dated and dealt with had a PED history...to me it was more than obvious... its sort of like the kennedy assasination...logic tells me that the official story is lacking...peace

  • @Bexly a test won't be done? you're right. which is why instead of stating emphatically that flojo was drugged, I'll stick to the belief that she wasn't. and Marion was phenomenal in hs. despite her issues with testing, no one believed her to be doing drugs at that time. so when she hit the big leagues and crushed her competition, folks looked at it as though she was rightfully claiming her position not jumping out of nowhere onto the spotlight.

  • there was a time of 21,25 possible cause joyner accelerated down their last 10 meters as you can see, cause she was sure to win the title and not thougt of the time she ran oder could have run

  • @diegoribasx youre talkin out of your ass

  • @puljacina tell it the gayline, that u ring every day.

  • No one looked comfortable running so fast it was like she was almost jogging. speed never looked so good...awesome!

  • I hope that drug cheat is burning in hell!

  • did she use steroids, yes....did everyone else on the track..yes...does anyone really care?? of course not...it takes nothing away from her talent or training effort just because she took illegal supplements....and yes this was an amazing video.

  • I'm so sick of this steroid crap every time an athlete breaks a world record!

It's called hard work and phenomenal talent! Look at her upper body. She was put together, but feminine through and through. Never diss my baby!

  • forget steroids; human growth hormone was available back then, black market, and was not on a banned list AND there was no test for HgH back in '88 when Flo Jo was running. Also, coincidentally or not, on the eve of mandatory random, out of competition drug testing for track and field, Flo Jo happened to immediately retire. Just my opinion....don't hate me. She just look s a little too much bigger in the arms and legs than from '84 Olympics for it to just be hard work and weights.

  • STATISTICS CALCULATION - from

    BR-0 com/olympics htm

  • Can I just say you are all wrong no-one really knows exactly the ins and outs. One thing is for sure she died by suffocation following a type of fit. She had in the past been treated for these fits which were as a result of an abmormal blood vessel leading to the brain. Why are people so hateful?

  • tomtom1642.. thank you for that. I knew her since she was a child. I was engaged to her eldest brother, Bobby. She never took steroids and anyone and everyone who knew her personally will attest to this. People are hateful because they cannot see any good in themselves so it is impossible for them to see it any anyone else.

  • you don't know if she took steroids UNLESS YOU WERE WITH HER LITERALLY EVER SECOND OF THE DAY. And that's not just for her, but for everyone. A girl was kicked off the US Olympic swim team in 2008 for an illegal substance that was in her power drink that she was sponsored by, and even though she was found later to have not taken the substance intentionally, it WAS found to be in her sponsors drinks. So YOU can't tell me affirmatively what went into Flo Jo's body 24/7. Sorry, but you can't.

  • Who is to say what is in the book is the truth and not somebody trying to disgrace somebody else?

  • wolfdog45, it took Usain Bolt a year to improve his PB by that much, not a few months. Get your facts right.

  • Tons of sprinters use PEDs, none can touch 10.49. Shes still the best of all time either way.

  • Before the 1988 season, Griffith Joyner's best 100 meter time was 10.96 seconds. In 1988 she improved that by 0.47 seconds, a time that no one has approached since. Similarly, her pre-1988 best at 200 meters was 21.96. In 1988 she improved that by 0.62 seconds to 21.34

  • It is a steroid and its illeagal. Read Charlie Francis's book called 'Speed Trap'. Francis was Ben Johnson's sprint coach, who got banned from coaching after Bens disqualification in Seoul. It mentions that flo Jo was taking HGH at the time.

  • Flo Jo was on HGH a growth hormone. Flo jos voice sounded very deep during the interviews. And she looked very muscular.

  • Did you give her HGH? How do you know this? If you are so sure why not report it to the police/law enforcement?

  • Flo Joyner did train for a period with Ben Johnson in 1988. It is in a Book called Speed Trap. A Sports biography about the sprinter. Charlie Francis, Ben Johnsons Trainer had been administering steroids to Ben for a long time, and also he clearly states that he knew Flo Jo begun taking HGH in late 1987 to prepare for the Olympics. very muscular. Anyway, I shall contact the police about this and most importantly the IAAF. I will show them where in the book I got this information from.

  • What i was trying to say is: the authorities have read the same book and for some reason have done nothing!

There will always be cheats and there will always be cover ups. However, Flo Jo was talented and that needs to be highlighted too. Peace.

  • Noone can say yes or no whether she took HgH, BUT it WAS available in 88, with no test for it at these Game. If you compare her from 84 to 88, to the normal eye, the enormous growth in muscle on the arms and legs, is quite more than what just weights and hard work can do. Each of my track friends on the national level at that time, KNEW there was NO way she did not have something enhancing her speed, whatever it was, whether her coach slipped it to her in a drink or if she took it knowingly.

  • I agree with you. She MUST have been on HgH.

  • aquamarineeyes is obviously some who gets pleasure out of slander and is so consumed with jealously of FloJo's accomplishments and successes that he/she must spew out vile rhetoric to make him/herself feel bigger than he or she is. It's very easy to speak ill of someone who cannot defend themself. This is a sad and pathetic vacant soul.

  • wow, well said. I couldn't have said it better myself

  • fool you just don't know what you talking about fo jo NEVER failed a drug test and when she died they didn't find any traces of steriods, why everytime someone runs amazingly steriods gotta be behind it, they said the same shit about Usain Bolt and they can't find shit on him neither, do everybody a favor and know what the hell you talking about before you start talikng

  • The QUEEN of steroids at her very best here! The worst role model for children!

  • you are a LIAR and if you knew what truth was you would be woman or man enough to speak it. FloJo never failed a drug test and if you knew anything about the "person" you would know that drugs of any kind was something she was against. She grew up in Watts, CA where drugs devastated that community. She was asthmatic.

  • so you expect everyone to believe she just suddenly got better at the age of 28. people dont just have a huge improvement in their performance naturally. not at that age not on the scale she had. and why quit at 28 that would be like usain bolt quitting now after the recent olympics

  • Thats not always true, sometimes you see people like Barry Bonds breaking records at the end of their careers which is suspect but then you can look at Steve Nash who won his 2 MVPs when history tells us he should be on the downside of his career. And Vince Carter just had some videos up of him doing dunks at age 32 that most NBA players can't do, so it's not completely out of the question for someone to improve at such a late stage in their career, not everyone progresses/peaks at the same rate

  • ye cause barry bonds was never taking steroids!! dont be stupid man. nobody knows if flo jo was on the take but everyone knows bonds was.

the biggest misconception is that the cheaters are being caught when in reality most of em are getting away with it. we dont have proof but scientists and commissions are always saying so

  • your dumb, i was saying some people like barry bonds are obvious examples you moron, and others like steve nash and vince carter, prove otherwise

  • well you worded it saying you see people like bonds being suspect but then say well nash and carter peaked later in their career so i figured you were saying bonds could be plausible when clearly people have seen him taking roids and told about it. anyway my point is people getting caught is the very tip of the iceberg. there is a huge underworld of illegal drugs in sports and its in every pro sport i know of so just because people like flo jo arent caught doesnt mean they are clean

  • I was just playing devil's advocate she was most certainly on steroids I can't say I know this for sure but it was pretty damn suspect the way she suddelny retired before random drug testing was introduced. A whole heap of those runners back then were doing it because there was no enforcement, its disgraceful and they should all be stripped of their medals if they are on any illeagal drugs

  • Hey! the pt. is set a world record and make money and live a good life, in which Barry Bonds live to see it but somethings not right in his career.

  • Hey! the pt. is set a world record and make money and live a good life, in which she did not live long to see it.

  • you speaking english here or what?

  • @biglittlejujitsuman

That is sadly true.I loved Flo Joe,but she never win a great race before 1988,and she did something in 1988,everyone says hard work, but she always worked hard. You can train 24/7 and improve 0.10 seconds but she improved 0.50 in six month at the age of 28.

She never suffered of epilessia, but died young by epilessia...too much growth hormone causes epilessia...

  • @Bajinjo If that's the case why hasn't any other woman sprinter come close to her records??? was she only one using HGH? Why couldn't the EastGermanSportsDrug Machine the very best at Doping and training produce a woman to beat her times Dopers from Ottey to Jones weren't even close her records. It's simple before the HGH and before the training there's great genetics and flow had them I think she was on HGH but that great gene pool comes first Drugs are little overated

  • @LVSWTZ

You can say the same things for Ben Johnson, his time was unreachable 'till Mo Greene did it.

I'm not saying she couldn't win...she probably was the best that year & i hope the best ever(i repeat i loved her and defended her untill she died in that circumstances).

But,as Ben said...since everyone was cheating that years(antidoping was not as serious as it is now),she did the same.

We can't know what the real record is.Maybe she could really ran a 10.5 but it's unfair to close both eyes

  • @Bajinjo "but it's unfair to close both eyes"WHO'S EYES ARE CLOSED?? NOT MINE LOL! All I'm saying is that there is a level playing field and that's drugs it's a little sad but it's true Drugs are PART OF IT but NOT ALL OF IT Talent and Passion still rule If don't have the talent Then there's nothing to enhance and next time READ MY COMMENTS BETTER LOL!..eyes closed lol. I haven't BLINKED since Seoul 1988 LOL!

  • @Bajinjo "You can say the same things for Ben Johnson, his time was unreachable 'till Mo Greene did it." No you it can't and NO HE DIDN'T LOL! Ben never reached his full speed potential (9.60 by 1991- 92 according to Francis) because of the suspention he had just come back from a 6 month hamstring tear and only 8 weeks of racing before the 1988 games Grene (A Doper too) equaled the time But Not the Man Ben was Custom Made Mo came off the assembly line.

  • @LVSWTZ

ROFL...enough,you work for third echelon and know it all :-/

And they trained in the area 51...Greene a doper? Wash your mouth fool

  • @biglittlejujitsuman The evidence is circumstantial,as it was with O.J. But when you add everything up,it certainly points to some type of performance enhancing drug. Your point about her improved prowess at age 28 when plyometric athletes peak between ages 23-26 is valid.

  • @biglittlejujitsuman She didn't fail a single drug test so what your saying holds no value.

  • @Kmunz7 the drugs tests were not good enough back then. plenty of people got away with cheating in east germany and communist countries, also she just quit conveniently when they planned to bring out new strict drug testing policies. doesnt matter what i say most people will not believe her as circumstance points to guilt. its possible she may have been clean but i would have a hard time believing.

  • so why did she become good at such a late stage in her career and then immediately retire? why waas her bes time for 100m 10.92 then less than 6 months later 10.49 seconds??? Explain why this has never been done before or since by ANY athlete is ANY field EVER! Go on blow hard tell us all! We are listening!

  • usain bolt went from a 100m PB of 10.03 to a world record of 9.69 in the space of a few months

  • flo jo's feet looks like a machine lol, the person that came second was cheated from a gold medal, pity.

  • Let's face it here, she produced the performances of her life (literally!) at the 1988 Olympics in the 100m & 200m. Was she on drugs we will never know although it looks almost certain that she was as she changed so much physically almost overnight from good sprinter to out of this world superstar. Whatever, R.I.P. Flo Jo x

  • Yea! Her blood cells were certainly soaking up more oxygen than everyone else in this race. Everyone else faded whilst she looked like she could have kept that that pace up for days.

Absolute joy to watch! Hope ur in heaven Flo xx

  • Hope she is in hell for being such a bad example to children!!! Just say no to drugs or you may die at 38!!!

  • You again!! I suppose you're still preaching that your beloved Marita Koch is clean?? Your just jealous because Flo Jo's steroids allowed her to take MK's 200m record without making her look like a man!!

  • The fact remains that her roid taking ultimately took her life at the young age of 38. Drugs are for mugs! The great Marita Koch's 400m World Record will never be surpassed. DEUTSCHLAND UBER ALLES

  • DEUTSCHLAND UBER ALLES??? I have no idea what this means but I'm guessing it means "us German's no how to manufacture the perfect race" or maybe"If Germany won the war we wouldn't even be having this conversation" lol

  • if anyone was on drugs koch was... she was hairy and looked like a man. Testosterone was seaping from her pores lol.

  • At least THE GREAT MARITA KOCH is STILL ALIVE unlike the druggie Flo Jo!!!

  • You are the bad example for children because you speak without facts, which makes you a liar. I knew her personally, I was engaged to her brother, Bobby Scott. It's very easy for people to project their opinions, but to push lies shows no character.. you couldn't even hold her running shoes let alone speak about her

  • @MsMaiysha Man i wouldn't bother, she was fuckin amazing, absolutely beautiful natural talent.Base natural talent made her win by these margins, and her world record still stands to this day.Self righteous motherfuckers(sorry bout the language).

  • lol... thinkin and saying things like that is a good example for kids? Im sure wishing someone to hell is gonna get u to heaven?

  • If she had of been clean i believe she would be alive today married and enjoying bringing up a family.

  • sure... like schwarzenegger, stallone...

    strong reasoning there... ;(

  • In World Championship 1987, she won silver in 200m with time 21.96. Less than a year, she broke the world record, 21.34. Was she free from steroid? Don't think so.

  • great performance but then was Ben Johnsons at the same games.

  • come on now people, the woman's dead...........of course she used, at least a dirty johnson and gatlin will be around to talk about it 30 yrs from now. she obviously overdid the GH affecting her heart and killing her way too soon

  • so sue edgrady!!!

  • Er - not caught due the scum bag yanks of this world covering up - my hero was Frederick Carlton Lewis - but he was also a "cheat" - at least he's not dead now. unlike Flo who was a hardened user.

  • the worst commenter U hear on long time. But... who came second? She was the only one who get with the running rythm.

  • Even the blind could see that she was pumped up on steriods. Well, she paid the ultimate price.

  • Well i know that Flojo had two jobs and 10 siblings she helped take care of. I also know that she made great improvements before the olympic games in 88.

  • can i remind everyone who posts on flo jo, the woman died of cancer not too long ago. She never failed a single drugs test. This sport has been given a bad name because of what happened with Ben Jonson and his coach and many others before and after him. Flo Jo was purely naturally gifted and worked damn hard to get where she was. Otherwise she would have been found out.

  • She died of a heart seizure not cancer...she was ON, all top class sprinters are ON or have been at some point in their lifes. They just stay 1 step ahead by using new perfomance enhancing drugs, or chemicals to bypass the detection methods. The difference between Flo Jo and the rest is that she abused steriods (opposed to just used) and she paid the price. Her autopsy being negative? Depends what steriods she used. deca stays for 18months, dbol about 5weeks, and clen can be out within 4days

  • Things you don't know: out-of-competition testing was only introduced in 1989 - coinciding with Flo-Jo's retirement; after the fall of the Wall, it was found beyond doubt that the East German female athletes were doped - and not one of them had ever tested positive either; steroids by themselves don't provide benefits, you still have to work out, but the effects make the workouts more beneficial. If she'd been that naturally gifted, her times up until 1987 would have reflected that.

  • Sorry, y'all..."Queen of steroids" autopsy was negative. May Flo RIP!

  • Still wondering how she wasn't caught.

  • friggin doper! fraud ass bitch...mofucka is prayin' and all...ruthless - gets no love.

  • you are pathetic and so void of decency and humanity. I bet your family is very proud of you. Bless your hardened dark tiny little heart.

  • The Queen of steroids at her very besst

  • what are you talking about, she never tested positive...why slander???
