Feel wise, I think they are similar. the highway one I have is very very light. Which I enjoy. I also have a MIA delux that feels better put together, and stays in tune much better, but the Highway one has more mojo/character. Still they play very similar. But I always reach for my highway one 4/5 times.
The Mexican ones I find are heavier with a neck that are not as smooth. But they are still good guitars. (switch out the pickups though).
I LOVE the Highway 1 Stratocaster HSS!!! I own 7 of them in ALL the available colors of the series!! It's a SICKNESS...I know!!
I do, however have issues with the stock pickups.....they flat out SUCK!!
I dumped the pickups in all 7 of mine, put in really good ones. and NOW they're all awesome guitars!! I've played 'off the shelf' Fender Custom Shop guitars that can't touch these babies!!
These guitars are really well built; it's just that the stock pickups bite ass!!!
The guitars are 85%+ made in USA. They do you standard pickguards and knobs and tuners. The wood is exactly the same as the Am. Standards. I own one. It is one piece Alder. The craftsmanship is not as quality controlled as the $2000 models but you are WAY better getting this over a mexi any day.
The Nitro is sensitive....But not as sensitive as you think. You have to remember, people are stupidly paying thousands to relic now a days. With this, you wil relic easier. I prefer my guitars perfect. Ive seen some that are taken care of with a nice shine after a few years from the oils and rubbing we do as we play. It will not wear to the wood unless you are rogh as shit with it.
Then why do they feel different if your say the parts are the same? The wood is different, the pickups are different, the bridge is differnt etc. SOund like anothe MIM owner to me.....
Humbuckers aren't better they are different. And of my six guitars two have floyd rose tremolos; they are also the least played. Floyd rose tremolos are useful in specific situations but limit you too much to use on your regular rig. When using a Floyd Rose it is more challenging to attain a 1 or 1 1/2 step bend due to the loose bridge. Also you are limited to lighter gauge strings which again limits your tonal options.
A nice ESP - Les Paul with Floyd is good for metal crap for anything else.
I agree,I love my Yamaha's! Its an HSS hard Tail,I put some DiMarzio Evolution's in the Bridge, split coils,Got Telecasters,I collect them,Play thru a Carvin Legacy, live and a Frontman at home or my old CrateI play alot Of Blues with a slide,Those Pacificas can get up there in Price but I love Them!!! And there Acoustics..Been using them for 25 yrs now,Still going Stong!!
definatley but u may want to change the pickups, i have not found a single strat that has felt better, plus if u get really good pickups its like better than anything in my opinion
me too! single coils are just FANTASTIC!! but u gotta love noiseless single coils...which are technically humbuckers. single coils sound more unique to the player. even with high gain, my usa standard sounds fantastic=]
humbuckers are good for a certain type of music. i wudnt b as fussy tho
In my video response I'm using my Highway One HSS with mesa triple rec. By the way for you people that don't know the hss is equipped with the Seymour Duncan Atomic Humbucker and Alnico III single coils.
Same here. The single coils are junk. The Humbucker is good enough...nice hermonics..i put american pickups in mine and some locking tuners..This thing Rocks!
whats the necks like? how wud u compare them to the american standards? id like the hss one, however i prefer the maple fretboards. thinkin of gettin a H1 strat and puttin thick thick strings on it for all that srv stuff. also some hot noiseless single coils
I have the highway one, don't know if is upgrade or not. has the old skinny head stock (i prefer to the fat one) and no humbuckers. The pickups on mine are awesome though, my teacher wants my guitar and i don't know which it is, if anyone can help would be great.
Thanks, a few others agree. Hway 1 (my older 1) is still capable of playing the more traditional strat stuff, cos only the middle pickup is reverse wound (obviously u can mix to get a bridge or neck, humbucker sorta sound).
Strats are great guitars. They stay in tune and are a fun guitar to play. But, Fender can't make a good Humbucker. We have a 2004 American fat Strat HSS. The 1st thing we did was drop a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker in there. No noise and tone for days. Checkout the channel ' scrubmart 'for a demo. Peace,,

This is my dream guitar. I've played them at Guitar Center and it plays like a dream and sounds even better. I love the options it gives with the Humbucker for heavier distortion songs, and the single coils for cleaner tones.
HSS stands for humbucker-single coil-single coil. theres a humbucker in the bridge position. humbuckers produce a much more gain friendly sound for high distortions whereas single coils have a more softer sound hence why strats are used for blues. the highway one comes in both outfits hss and sss
Agreed.....HSS is NOT an acual pickup....but an acronym for the pickup format (ie..Humbucker Single Single). IMHO this format gives a guitarist the best of both worlds....nice chunky Humbucker sounds and nice tubey, woody Strat sounds. Ideal for the cover band guitarist!
I just happen to like the Highway One's big headstocks, big frets, nitro finish, and the look and feel of the guitar in general.
The Amer. Dlx. does, however, come already tricked out with noiseless single coil pickups. (VERY important to ME)Still....I'd have to change the Humbucker...Fender just CAN'T do humbuckers right!

but this guitar does not suck, ive had mine for 4 years.
ive pulled off jazz to death metal

without a problem, and it sounded great on for both types of playing

What did you end up putting in the bridge?
I have an Amer. Deluxe HSS and the DH-1 in the bridge is Krap. Gonna switch the SCNs out with CS-'59's or '69's.
Thinking of the Duncan JB in the bridge. Any suggestions for Blues/Jazz?
RoninRecords 2 years ago
Here's the rundown for #6.
DiMarzio Area 61's neck/middle
Gibson BurstBucker 3 bridge.
If you ditch the SCN's (they're NOISELESS....remember!) for the CS59/69's you're gonna get 60 cycle hum!
I, personally, NEED noiseless single coils! The Dimarzio Area series are GREAT!!
As far as the HB, IMHO,,,try any one of the AlNico based (GREAT for Blues/classic rock) Gibson pickups. I've had GREAT success with mine!
