Well no matter what he calls it that was simply to most concise tutorial on cutting out objects in PS while also showing the power of the pen tool vs polygonal tool. Being self taught there were many fundamentals that I just glossed over. Good post.
@HaloHamstur The term is used often, in that you are right, but this is not what the term actually means. "Rendering" is generating a 2D image file from a 3D modeling programs, or rendering an actual 3D model wire frame, or saving an animation file to a finished animation, or completely drawing/fleshing/detailing out a finished drawing or painting in a higher realistic detail. Rendering is not selecting, cutting, and pasting.
@SirenLawliet Ok canyou please explain to me what someone means when they say it took them 40-50 hours to render something. Now when there saying that does that mean it took them 40-50 hours to make? Or does it mean it took that long for the computer to calculate everything? Cause im confused i hear so many different definitions of rendering. And its really confusing me cause i want to become a game designer and im trying to learn about all this stuff and people keep giving me different answers.
@halo6534 That's the thing, rendering can mean either one of those. It depends on what the thing is being rendered. Chances are though, if it's 40-50 hours, that's probably the time it took them to MAKE it. It'd have to be an enormous file or animation for the computer to take 40-50 hours to render it out. Also, usually, in a comment description, no one really puts the "render time" as in the time it took the computer render it out, because no one really cares about that.
@SirenLawliet what your describing is what im looking for but im having a hard time finding somthing that shows me how to do that is there another term that i can look for that will show me how to do that? if not can you point me to a video that shows how to ?
@staone1 I just described two things. Which one were you looking for? And I'm not really sure I can find a video on it...Good tutorial videos for this stuff on Youtube seem hard to find...I've never looked up any sort of "how to" art video on Youtube.
@staone1 Er...you mean for rendering out an animation file? No, I don't. I really don't look this stuff up online, haha, sorry. To learn I pretty much use school +bought resources, like Gnomon DVDs and the more "reputable" tutorial magazines and books.
I see nothing to do with "rendering" here at all. Ameteur attempt at showing the Pen tool in photoshop. Also no mention of "possible" copywright infringements.... If you need Photoshop tutorials Adobe has all you ever need and they are explained fully.
can i make renders with texts? i have to make an invitation and im going to use color papel, so i was wondering that. i hope you can answerd this before september 17th haha. thx for the vid.
Look up the word "render" in a dictionary , at most what u can use is "crop" which exactly means what you've done in the video (remove/trim the edges/background)
@DivasKnockoutsLover You hit "undo", "step backwards",s or shorcuts- CTL+Z, or Ctrl+Alt+Z. Undo only works once, and fixes your previous mistake, step backwards goes all the way back, i am pretty sure, one step at a time.
@LoveHoosier The render shouldn't get resized at all from this process. To resize images you can press CTRL+T. With the box that appears around the images, shold down shift and drag one of the corner images to the desired size. If you make the images too big you'll lose a lot of quality. Try finding a big image to render.
@wiimonster222 I like to go to file > save for web and device and save it as a png-24. It is a really high quality image if done this way with max settings. It also allows for a clean transparent image.
This isn't rendering... this is how to cut something out of an image. And why did you create a vector mask, then convert it to a smart objective, then reaterise, when if you just made a layer mask then applied it it would have given you the EXACT same result but a lot faster?
Also, do you not know how to use the pen tool properly? Your points are jagged.
You shouldn't be doing Photoshop tutorials if you're not good at it. You're just showing people how to waste time doing something not needed.
@llTomlll Render is just the term used on an image cut out of a stock. I am aware it has other definitions. As for converting to smart object, sure there is faster methods that I now know a year and 6months later, but this is what I posted about at the time. Almost a thousand people have found this useful since the like button on youtube.
cool, nice and simple for anyone who didn't know how to do this easier. There's plenty of ways you can do this to images but this is the most efficient and simple.
this has nothing to do with rendering, but some noobs still call it by that name, it is really called "extraction" and that is why there is also a tool, only for this, in photoshop which will give you an alot better result than this - also called "extraction"
@combatsucksatm it removes the "background" when you follow his steps. The checkerbox signifies a lack of pixels i.e. no background. If you still see a background after following his steps, it could mean that you have another layer that is showing. Once you are done, try saving as a ".png" file. png files save transparency. If you save as a jpg, it will automatically replace any empty areas with white, which it sounds like you do not want.
I have a question, how should i save it because i saved it as an .png but there is not the same backgroung that normal rendered png datas have. (like at the end of your video) can you help me?
@aznwolf106 if youre going on something like planetrenders, you might be clicking the small image itself without actually clicking on the image and THEN copying the render with a transparent background. If you did that and it doesn't work save the render to your pictures file and just do File>Open from your photo editing program :)
I have some troubles rendering when trying to fix it up. If I'm fixing the edges when using the pen, I hold ctrl and change edge on it, but sometimes it moves it in a different way I want. :P Hard to explain. Also, When i click again to start a new point on the image, it starts from a point randomely from the middle, not the closest point to where I clicked.
The only thing I had trouble with was finding 'Convert to Smart Object'. I found it afterwards, but the reason I couldn't find it is because CS2 calls this 'Group into Smart Object'. Still, GREAT TUT. :3
@georgbernier This is called a render, I don't know how it originated :P, but it's when you take the background off an object in an image to call it a render... which is used in tons of different products by using editing programs.
@XxD3MONULxX Gotta click the marquee button then right click the marquee you made. Go to select inverse. This selects everything outside the marquee. Then click delete :)
@musicsjos Your image is a locked image. Most likely you are unable to edit the image at all. Its a feature some photo programs give users the option to do ("helps protect their work" - I think).
Anyways simple fix. Go to image > canvas size. Change the drop down to pixels. Get the size of the image.
Now go to file new and create a new document using the same image sizes.
Go back to your old image. Press CTRL+A. This should highlight your image. Hold ctrl and drag to the new box, and render
very nice job. I learned something and I subscribed! Keep 'em coming!

@combatsucksatm it removes the "background" when you follow his steps. The checkerbox signifies a lack of pixels i.e. no background. If you still see a background after following his steps, it could mean that you have another layer that is showing. Once you are done, try saving as a ".png" file. png files save transparency.
