Instead of using the eraser tool, which is a destructive editing, use a mask layer to blend. It works the same way as the erase, except you still have the pixel detail and can fix the mistakes of your erasing, making blending much more versatile.
You are absolutely correct! However I wanted people that did not know what a layer mask was t be able to still follow the tutorial. Thank you for your feed back.

I have photoshop CS3, I do not think the warp feature was available before that.
