@platnumslayer7 What you have to understand about that is that up in heaven, things work differently and we will think on a whole new level. We will no longer feel any kind of sorrow, regret, or dismay, even if we know a loved one is burning in hell. The fact that they are in hell is because of their own choice to reject God, to use their own free will to choose the wrong path. Everything all boils down to free will, and God allows this at an expense to himself because He loves us that much.

It indeed does not seem logical that an all-loving God would punish us to eternal hell, but He does this to all who reject Him outright and reject His gift of salvation, reject His offer to wash away our sins. There is a reason why we cannot directly communicate with God, and that is because of our sin. God cannot be in the presence of sin at all, and those who refuse to let that sin go are doomed to hell because of that choice.

Its strange how these people who have gone to hell and lived to tell about it(?) always have a different story about what its like. Some say a fiery pit, some say a prison where demons rend and destroy your body(?), some say being alone in a dark place, etc. etc. etc. You know the word hell is an English translation of four words in the bible. Why have four words to mean one thing? Sheol(grave), Hades(literally unseen, or grave) Gahenna(Vally of Hinnom in Israel) and tartaroo(prison of angels).

It's not just one big fiery pit or place of darkness. The word sheol in Hebrew means very specifically grave, the concept of the "Christian" hell was never a part of Judaism. Hades is basically a direct Greek translation of the word sheol, but means more specifically unseen. Gehenna is a place on earth(valley of Hinnom), and tartaroo is the prison of fallen angels.
As a matter of fact, eternal damnation and fiery hell were originally pagan doctrines developed mainly under Egyptian and Babylonian mystery traditions, though certain other concepts of hell were known among many other gentile nations as well. Judaism however never espoused this view, and still does not to this very day. As I understand the bible the use of Gehenna by Christ in the book of Mathew is entirely symbolic and meant only for the Jews as it is found no where else in the bible.
The actual word "hell" is from the Norse word Hel, which like hades its Greek counterpart also means unseen or to conceal, however the concept of fiery torture was not applicable even to the Norse concept of the underworld/grave.
The symbolic usage of the word Gehenna by Christ to the Jews as found in Mathew was not a reference to the state of the unrepentant soul in the afterlife. The Vally of Hinnom was a garbage dump that was peppered with sulfur so that it would remain constantly on fire. It was the custom of the Jews to banish those who had contracted leprosy from the city of Jerusalem, and they would scavenge through the garbage of Gehenna to find food.
Gehenna was mentioned by Jesus in the N.T. symbolically for hell, yes, a place of fire and much suffering. People could equate with the burning 'rubbish' dumps(human 'refuse' burning in hell) in their day. So, Christ spoke allegorically in reference to the actual Hell, a place of unquenchable fire and torment, so they could better comprehend His message.
Thus when Christ spoke of Gehenna to the Jews he was warning them of the fact that they were going to be banished like the lepers for their sin against God because of their not receiving him, and thus came the fall of the temple some thirty years after his death and the dispersion of the people of Israel during the diaspora. When he spoke of being cast into Gehenna for sin in the members of the flesh, he was telling them the law could not save them.
The Jews (& the JWs) do not believe that the body/spirit exists after death but that they have to wait until the resurrection, to live again. We know that this is not true. We continue to live immediately after death in our spirit bodies. Remember, when Jesus' body hung on the cross for 3 dys, He said he went to "preach to those in the spirit prisons, who had been disobedient since the days of Noah." So, these people were in a part of the spirit world which was not the horrific hell.
Those spirits in prison are the fallen angels who are in tartaroo bound in chains of darkness until the day of judgment. The word prison is Greek phylakē and should be translated watchers, or the spirits of the watch. The book of Enoch from which Christ himself quoted spoke of the watchers who fell, the Nephilim, fallen angels.
Thus we see the reason for Christ use of the word in Mathew chapters 5, 10, 18 and 23. Specifically Christs discourse in Mathew Chapter 5 is explained by Paul in Romans chapter 7. Note that Christ does use the word hades in Mathew chapter 11 and 16. There is a reason for the use of the different words.
As far as the concept of eternal damnation, the error of contemporary Christians is in the mistranslation of the Greek words Aion and aionios and the Hebrew word Olawm into English. There never has existed in the hebrew language a term for eternity. The word olaw means very specifically, beyond the horizon or a time out of sight. The Greek noun Aion and its adjective Aionios mean very specifically a long duration or age, and pertaining to the age or age abiding respectively.
Regarding the concept of "Eternal" damnation in Hell. We must remember that Jesus/GOD has many titles & one of them is "ENDLESS" (Endless is My name) Since the name Endless has the same meaning as Everlasting & Forever & Eternal, we now know that Eternal punishment also means "GOD'S" PUNISHMENT. Therefore, contrary to popular belief, Endless punishment in Hell does NOT mean the wicked will suffer there forever & ever! But, if Christ did not Atone for our sins WE ALL would be damned.
Praise be to God & the Lamb who suffered at Gethsemene & Calvary that we might be forgiven of our sins if we but repent & receive Him. All the wicked who do not repent or 'know Him' must suffer in Hell until the end of the Millenium (after yr 3,000). Then come forth to stand before GOD on Judgment Day along with the rest of us. We will be assigned our Eternal destinations, one of a number of different, glorious Heavens, or Eternal damnation! Most all of us will inherit a glorious abode.
Jesus Christ is the only one who has the Keys to unlock the spirit prisons. After the Millenium, all those in Hell will be "set free" & receive their resurrected bodies at long last. Great rejoicing! Then we will all be Judged. Thanks to a merciful & loving God & Saviour, this was all made possible at Calvary. Most all the souls in Hell will receive a glorious heavenly home for eternity, altho they cannot ever dwell with the Saviour or Heavenly Father again. But they will have Joy.
There is a word in the Greek that mean everlasting in a sense, that word is aidios, and is used only twice in the new testament. once in the book of Jude in reference to the unbreakable chains that bind the fallen angels until judgment, and once in in the book of romans when referring to the power of God. Christians should realize that the catholic church twisted the doctrines of the early church and made them to conform to pagan doctrines in order to unite the pagans and Christians in Rome.

Read the story that Jesus told about Lazarus and the rich man - Jesus mentions Hades where the rich man went when he died. Hades is hell.

We will no longer feel any kind of sorrow, regret, or dismay, even if we know a loved one is burning in hell. The fact that they are in hell is because of their own choice to reject God, to use their own free will to choose the wrong path. Everything all boils down to free will, and God allows this at an expense to himself because He loves us that much.

It indeed does not seem logical that an all-loving God would punish us to eternal hell, but He does this to all who reject Him outright and reject His gift of salvation, reject His offer to wash away our sins. There is a reason why we cannot directly communicate with God, and that is because of our sin. God cannot be in the presence of sin at all, and those who refuse to let that sin go are doomed to hell because of that choice.

Its strange how these people who have gone to hell and lived to tell about it(?) always have a different story about what its like. Some say a fiery pit, some say a prison where demons rend and destroy your body(?), some say being alone in a dark place, etc. etc. etc. You know the word hell is an English translation of four words in the bible. Why have four words to mean one thing? Sheol(grave), Hades(literally unseen, or grave) Gahenna(Vally of Hinnom in Israel) and tartaroo(prison of angels).

The word hell is derived from four words in the bible. I don't think that the writers of the bible had in mind the same concept of hell that contemporary Christians do today. The word sheol in Hebrew means very specifically grave, the concept of the "Christian" hell was never a part of Judaism. Hades is basically a direct Greek translation of the word sheol, but means more specifically unseen. Gehenna is a place on earth(valley of Hinnom), and tartaroo is the prison of fallen angels.

As a matter of fact, eternal damnation and fiery hell were originally pagan doctrines developed mainly under Egyptian and Babylonian mystery traditions, though certain other concepts of hell were known among many other gentile nations as well. Judaism however never espoused this view, and still does not to this very day. As I understand the bible the use of Gehenna by Christ in the book of Mathew is entirely symbolic and meant only for the Jews as it is found no where else in the bible.

Those spirits in prison are the fallen angels who are in tartaroo bound in chains of darkness until the day of judgment. The word prison is Greek phylakē and should be translated watchers, or the spirits of the watch. The book of Enoch from which Christ himself quoted spoke of the watchers who fell, the Nephilim, fallen angels.

As far as the concept of eternal damnation, the error of contemporary Christians is in the mistranslation of the Greek words Aion and aionios and the Hebrew word Olawm into English. There never has existed in the hebrew language a term for eternity. The word olaw means very specifically, beyond the horizon or a time out of sight. The Greek noun Aion and its adjective Aionios mean very specifically a long duration or age, and pertaining to the age or age abiding respectively.

There is a word in the Greek that mean everlasting in a sense, that word is aidios, and is used only twice in the new testament. once in the book of Jude in reference to the unbreakable chains that bind the fallen angels until judgment, and once in in the book of romans when referring to the power of God. Christians should realize that the catholic church twisted the doctrines of the early church and made them to conform to pagan doctrines in order to unite the pagans and Christians in Rome.

Schumannetudes, you keep using the wrong word when you say "folt". I think you mean "fault" don't you? Even so, it's the wrong word based on your misunderstanding of Christianity. Your misperception is of an evil god who wants to punish/torture forever those who don't believe blue is red. My perception is of a Good God who sent His Son to save us from a so-so life and a horrible eternity by saying "follow Me...I AM the way..."

A good example of what is NOT the same principle is the one you gave. God is not asking you to believe blue is really red...or else! Is that really what you think Christianity is?
Also, evidence and logic have nothing whatsoever to do with faith. It is my opinion that the bible is an honest book, that Jesus Christ is who He said He is. Period.
Until you read His words, how can you have any opinion about Him?

That sounds like the statement of someone who never read the bible for himself - just took the word of someone else.

I know what you mean....At one point I was so into god as a child then I just forgot all about him and I locked him away in a closet...then I found him again...even though I forgot about him he still loved me and cared. Now I feel shame for what I did..

Hey Wizardfan. I was in the same place a couple years back, tried searching a lot of places and ended up messing with the occult and making some extremely serious mistakes. Fortunately, God helped me and saved me and since trusting Christ I've had the Holy Spirit in my life, which is more than enough proof even for a doubter like me. Hope this helps you - once you make the leap of faith to trust Christ, everything falls into place.

I lost my way and sought to find God. My prayers were "you said, Jesus" that if I seek I will find, if I knock, the door will be opened and if I ask it will be answered.
