The Orthodox and Roman Catholic DO NOT pray to the Theotokos (Mother of God) in the sense that you are assuming. They are asking for her mighty intercessions and help. The Orthodox and the Roman Catholic do not believe that the Holy Mother forgives sin nor that by "praying" to her that a person's spirit is saved.

@captaincook71 Ukraine is overwhelmingly orthodox; most of Eastern Europe is save Poland and a few countries around there. Most evangelicals are actually discriminated against. Being Ukrainian and orthodox, I find it offensive for Evangelical americans to come to our homeland and tell us that our ancient religion is wrong and try to convert true christians to their heresy.

I'm a catholic myself, but I don't mind praying in Orthodox or Protestant churches. We all are brothers in faith, children of one God.
