  • 32:17. Just WHHHAT do you think you're doing?

  • Conclusion, is better do be eaten by a black hole than a lion :)

  • Wait wait wait. If a GBG was 9Billion miles away, you couldn't have seen it in the sky when it happened, because it would have taken 9B years to get here, no?

  • @4jonah

Pardon me. I didnt mean miles. Durr. I meant light years

  • @4jonah Yep that is exactly right and how it works, anything we see 9 billion light years away happened 9 billion years ago. This is what allows astronomers and cosmologists to literally see the history of the universe by looking far enough away.

  • Two people can't escape from a black hole.

  • Worst camera man ever.

  • @DeadJesus100 You know, they're right. You ARE a dumbass. He's done public debate, stupid; he's crushed every one of those pathetic "arguments" you probably believe. It's not his fault you can't find your own ass with both hands and a road map. Go hide under a bridge, troll.

  • @DeadJesus100

    ..what

  • @DeadJesus100: -.- There's no arguing a conspiracy theorist, because they REFUSE to accept REAL evidence that contradicts their claims.

  • @TheCrimsonIdol987

Phil Plait the greatest conspiracy theorist

of the Apollo Mickey Mouse moonlandings

    1969-1972

  • @DeadJesus100: There is no need for debate, because no matter how many times you provide correct science or information to prove a conspiracy theorist wrong, they still don't realize that they argue from ignorance, which is a fallacious argument.

  • @TheCrimsonIdol987 You are too retarded to have a debate kid

  • @DeadJesus100: Ad Hominem logical fallacy, instead of proving an argument wrong, they resort to an insult or a personal attack on the person making the argument. It's a fallacious argument. Therefore, you're argument is invalid.

  • changed my mind. this is freaking awsome. now if all them soulja boi fans would learn something we wouldnt have to put up with soulja boi music. obviously i am joking but still hate his music.

  • this is sweet

  • 0:00-0:03 Did he say black hole or black hoe? I don't know much about the prior but I'm all too familiar with the latter.

  • a super massive black hole, is where i put my super massive black dick.

  • why is he giving a speech to only 6 people?

  • @dannners that is a very good question and my only answer would be its intended to decieve.

  • I love the internet! How could I ever have a chance to see this?

  • Who the fuck disliked this?

  • @Nyonben i just recorded a NOVA special which i loved by the way, and Evey photo of a black hole was a fake animation the was clever in that the viewer if not careful would mistake it for a image. in other words it was an intentional deception to fool citizens with IQ lower than 100 which by the way is one half of the population. Now i hear phil plait doing the same job in a verbal format. Nice job selling the Black hole snow job. it must pay money i guess.

  • @Nyonben Idiots, trolls; people with their heads so far up their own asses that their probably licking their own kidneys right now. Too bad they still manage to talk, somehow.

  • I get hesitant when I see people reply to my comments. I'm glad to see it isn't someone giving me a death threat for once =D

  • @Nyonben After you saying that you are hesitant about replies to your comments I had to reply lol

  • @CirianAlani It's a shame. A mute button in real life would eliminate a lot of my problems :)

  • Dude! learn to film!!!!!

  • I enjoyed listening to this.

  • People have surmised for eternal life when falling into a black hole. No. Your time would be short. The time you have to fall, there might have been a thousand years on Earth, well, to find a black hole would make that, but Carl Sagan surmised that within a human lifetime a person could go to the extreme end of the universe, at near light speed it would be only a few years for the one, but millions of years for the people back here.

  • "Black hole" is a bad name for people. Original "black star" would be better. They don't suck you unless they are created in a supernova.

  • @Simpson654 Yeah they do. They don't 'suck you' unless you reach the event horizon.

  • @FORGODSAKEIDONTKNOW do either of you know what you are talking about? the gravitational force extends well beyond the event horizon. you could say they all "suck" you as the force extends to infinity but is essentially zero beyond a certain distance. if there was a BH instead of our sun, and of the same mass, we would stay in the same orbit as we would still be being "sucked"

  • Can you tell me what gravity IS? According to Einstein it is the curvature of spacetime, but according to quantum mechanics there's some magical particle called graviton. I'm more likely to imagine a universe more than 4 dimensions than some magical graviton. People seem to think that graviton equals Higgs, which is worst idiocy ever. Creating higgs proves the old standard theory, and makes it better.

  • Sorry, Phil's great. But a black hole isn't any different from any other star. Actually, original Star Trek did it best, they used the term "black star", and just because an object has that kind of escape velocity, that does not mean it's going to suck you in, any more than the Sun will.

  • @Simpson654 You are a fool, the sun will suck you in, it has a gravititational pull, a black hole has an even stronger gravitational pull. The Escape velocity simply means that once your in your in cause of the escape velocity. And Star Trek is crap

  • @Simpson654 not entirely accurate as we can model the internal dynamics of a star, but cannot of a BH due to lack of knowledge of what happens to matter at such densities. i agree, however, that outside the event horizon, the mechanics are well understood

  • 10e-42 meters is the pixel of the universe, planck measure, good for nowadays people who know of video games. Not surprisingly Plank time is also around 10e-42 seconds. Any human measurement unit would word though, as it's not definite. Planck time/distance unit should be the base of all other units. For meters, if one planck unit was as one, then one meter would be one hellaplanck. :D

  • 5 billion years and no black holes. Great comets/asteroids, yes, last big one was 60 mllion years ago.

You don't change your own dimensions. And Copenghagen Interpretation was a joke. Arises more problems than "solves", as it solves nothing.

  • Hawking radiation is the reason why we don't see a lot of black holes in the universe, only the huge black holes in the centers of galaxies.

  • Phil, gravity does not increase when the size of the sphere decreases, when the mass stays the same. Great stuff, looking forward to your TV show on Discovery.

  • Horrible filming. Learn to film m8...

  • I pity the materialist.

  • Cool stuff at 1:03:30

I would love to see more stuff about the center of the galaxy.

  • Thanks for posting this and thanks to Phil for the content.

  • Awesome talk.

  • 38:55 -- He catches himself instantly, but I wonder how many people in the audience would assume that 10^67 - 10^10 = 10^57

  • Phil Plait is a lot younger than I thought he'd be.

  • @j4pan perhaps just god don't exist...

  • really interesting but the camera work was irritating. you should have just stayed focused on the projector. thanks anyway

  • Great! thanks for the vid man!

  • This is so very cool.
