Ian Curtis: a body and stage moves like a Thunderbirds puppet, the voice of a dystopic, other worldly Jim Morrison. And no, I didn't nick that from Rolling Stone.
What is Joy Division? Why are they so important for me and for so many people? I really dont know but the truth is not only Ian Curtis but all the members of the band were great performers. Tony Wilson, Martin Hannett, Deborah Curtis, etc and all this peope we've seen in the movies were also important for what is Joy Division these days. Not to mention the fans (I feel included although i was born in 82). I hope I will still listen to this music in my 70s. KEEP JOY DIVISION ALIVE!!!!
"When the souls rise in the light of their joy, my soul ascends glorified by the dark of grief. I am like you, Night! And when my morn comes, then my time will end." Kahlil Gibran 1883-1931
new order definitely doesnt suck...there just different without IAN singing...they sound very similar musically they're the same group, just without Ian..
@cman7142000 i disagree completely, new order sounds almost nothing like joy division, which shows how big a role ian had in making joy division's music
@hockykid64 Ian had a very major role in the making of joy Division's music. I've spoken to Peter Hook about the fact. He told me that if Ian had not taken his life, Joy Division's sound would have developed along those lines anyway.
sorry SQUAB I just went to yahoo music and looked up the lyrics to this song, and even though it sounds like wonderful prize, your right its lucky prize! I apologize..i still can't find your mistake in the lyrics accordording to hheennrryy199... peace squaby72...
Thank you for pointing this out but also check the back pages of Touching form a distance which is the biography that Ian Curtis' widow Debbie written, if you interested in the book it is a very good read.
@cman7142000 hmmmmmm not sure about this one, in debbies book its 'lucky prize' on live recordings sounds like lucky prize, on closer its too hard to tell his voice sems to falter on those two words !!!! surely lucky prize on live recordings before closer, 50 -50 on closer, im surprised no one in the studio noticed the unclearness of those two words
So simple yet so fucking good. You can feel the pain for sure. This song is shit hot and is getting me through some crazy time - fucking brilliant tune!
What the hell did Stephen Morris do to deserve isolation in terms of playing on the beginning of this song? The rythm track sounds like a keyboard demo selection. Martin Zero at his his most useless. These Days has Hookey playing his best JD bassline in my opinion. Am I going to receive thumbs down for rectifying such traits?
errr.. how old are you anyway.. i really liked it (i'm 26) but its true i don't really like nowadays music.. they seemed to be lost in translation, no real concept.. some of them are even making records just to meet the deadline.. total bollocks
aye boss not much older. I am 30 but I guess the point I was trying to make was - when you're young, going through whatever, going to gigs, you just connect with that band. I am still connecting but not as passionately as I was. Kasabian was the last band I thought nice one.
this song does to my ears what watching my soulmate totured to death before me would do to my eyes. even though its great because it helps me realize that true love is a nearly impossible thing to attain with the boundaries of misunderstanding and mental illness that cause fundamental confusion, at least this song gives me something to hold onto when im diving headfirst into the bottom of the barrel.
Ian,unico e eterno.Adoro ouvir tem td a ver com o q vivo!

you got the wrong lyrics SQUAB
in fear every day, every evening
he calls her aloud from above
carefully watched for a reason
painstaking devotion and love
surrendered to self preservation
from other who care themselves
a blindness that touchess perfection
but hurts just like anything else
hheennrryy199 3 years ago 5
Do apologise for that I must of misheard what was being said, but thank you for pointing that out for me.

Be clear every day, every evening
It calls here aloud from above
Carefully watched for a reason
Mistaking devotion and love
Surrendered to self-preservation
From others who care for themselves
But life as it touches perfection
Appears just like anything else
Isolation, isolation, isolation.

But if you could just see the beauty,
These things I could never describe,
These pleasures a wayward distraction,
This is my one lucky prize.
