Saddam lost the moral standing and apparently even the mental stability required to remain in power. He was a menance as the Iranians and Kuwaitis can both attest. His ignition of the Kuwaiti oil fields in his retreat was one of the great ecological calamities of our time. And it was just for spite.
Control of Iraq's oil is now firmly in Iraqi hands and not that bloody fool Saddam. He richly reaped only what he sowed.
