I am denied to leave the German NAZI state since 1988. I had been tortured several times in other countries by the BND which is the renamed GESTAPO to force me back. My personal experience makes me believe that almost every German living abroad is a German snitcher.
How comes that today many people around the world are accepting that Germany is infiltrating their society to gain control?
@rethimiotis7 but container/bulk go everywhere, oil tankers usually go through the same route every time, and sometimes they dont even dock on land, they stop out at sea and smaller tankers take oil in or a pipe
how does one even get started if they want to work on ships like these? is it something you just have to be born into or have friends in? how can a typical person get into this line of work?
You have to be foreign. It's a job requirement. Other job requirements are very dark skin, eyes and hair. It also helps to have very poor english. Good luck!
indeed we all prefer eating burgers and peanut whole day , but a green card is required to do that... so "the foreigners" have to work for a living... as for the poor english i really cant justify them given that each fellow american can speak at least 3 other languages... !!!!
At least the majority of poor English have passports and travel. Now remind me of the proportion of Yankees that have passports...............Oh that's right you don't need them because you know everything about the world from the Simspons
@ak7274 the majority of Yankees dont travel simply because its not profitable for the big companies to hire them. No well educated american would agree to be responsible for ship and cargo costed hundreds of millions of dollars, for 8000 euro per month, doing hard work, far from social life, in hard living conditions. On the other hand these money are just fine for people from poorer countries where a medical doctor for example earns at about 1500 euro. So you are not better just more expensive.
First you need some qualifications. Either become an able seaman, or if you want to be an officer, you need to study at a university. This will be much quicker than working your way up the ranks, and today most shipowners won't let you near their ships without a degree anyway.
I don't think nepotism is a very big problem in shipping, at least not in civilized countries. They have too much to loose by hiring some incompetent cousin of the shipowner, they want only the best.
on some companies you don't need university to be an officer, you can be even a first officer without university.te be a captain you'll need a university and captain exam.
According STCW all officers have to be qualified so that means they have to finished the merchant marine academy. After there are certain courses(C.O.W.,chemicals,RO-RO,Medical,simulators e.t.c.)Iam A Captain on tankers.
Baby what i'm talking happens in all companys European,American Asian and so on.They some times prefer ofc with higher licence.Ex. I was working as a Chief officer with Captain lic. for a year.
2 of my uncles were captains on these kind of tankers many years ago - now they are retired - I remember in the 80s when my younger uncle would travel across the Atlantic ocean to Suez and he we wouldn't see him for 2 or 3 months.
I can recommend Chemical as for tankers go. They are way more advanced than oil tankers so its a lot more things to take into consideration. Many of workmates have gone from Chemical to Oil, but VERY few have gone the other way around. We had 52tanks totalling at 40.000m3. Never been on gas, except for ships that use gas for propulsion, but you still need some extra courses.
True, chemical tankers are more advanced than crude oil tankers, but for obvious reasons. Mainly, because of the tank cleaning equipment and vapor return systems. However, the ultimate in luxury for seafarers is LNG tankers in regards to the comforts of the accomodation. In the last 13 years, I have been aboard many thousands of ships as a Cargo Loss Control analyst.
I have no problems believing that LNG-tankers has good accommodations. With large decktanks the ship need to have a large superstructure to satisfy IMO regulates for Visibility so there has to be a lot of "void" spaces that can be used for different luxuries for the crew. A female(!) 2nd mate i sailed with came from LNG and she said the ship even had its own hall for football , volleyball and similar sports.
different things,it depends to your skills and your desire for work,if we can say that c/o tanker is an easy ship, then after is a chemical and after an LNG where u really must have balls...
LNG is the easier than C/O tankers by far. The systems take your head for a spin to get used to, but if you listened in class then its not so bad. Inshallah, im going for combined ticket motor+steam.
Actually, I would think the waves are not that bad, it just looked more dramatic due to all the splashing since the ship was loaded hence the deck was very close to the water level.
Damn, i have always been afraid open sea.. Its so huge. and when a storm comes u never know what happens next. but if u travel in big tankers like this, it would probably not bee so dangerous. this huge tankers are so heavy, and so big so little waves can't move on them.
thats common stuff on a tanker mate...ur heading into wht force 5/6 head seas in a loaded tanker...thats gonna happen....shippinf seas across a deck with 30 deg rolls..now thats hard sore!!
Fascinating video! I would not want to be at the stem of that ship about that time.
I presume the whole crew avoids any on deck operations at that time, right???
Love those ships...my respect for all those who sail them.
