I find the production of this album utterly fantastic, Maintains that raw "real" sound while still having a clean distinction between the instruments. Its so refreshing to hear drumming on an album that sounds like and ACTUAL drummer is playing them instead of some synthesized pro-tools bullshit.

If you're trying to argue about whether or not this is a good piece of music based on a scientific process of examining its riff structure and comparing that to how black metal should or shouldn't sound, you're totally missing the point of music. You either feel something or you don't. It strikes a chord or it doesn't. If it was possible to break it down to a science, then every band would be making spine-tingling records.

IDK why people are saying this band is commercial. Does anyone see them on MTV or VH1? I sure don't. How about playing on the radio? No? I didn't think so. What about the fact that this album was made in 2008 and it still has the sound of traditional black metal? Compare these guys to the sound of bands like Dimmu Borgir and you will see what I mean. Bands that go commercial have a more refined sound to them, and not as raw as this.

@OctavianKorax It's the true-trend man. All the kids that grow up now that were not there in the 90ies have a weird idea of how Black Metal should be. Tincan-sound and all that, y'know. They just need to get a life and see music through the eyes of a critique-ful music-lover and not like a kid obsessed with a trend.

@TheDarkflags if you reduce it down to sound, you could also dismiss "monday" as a really happy pop song. even in popmusic you can find structures that you miss out if its just about sound. on equal terms, most normal people wont get into black metal, because they think it sounds noisy and cant reflect more into it. hence, you see this song just like most normal persons ;)

The same two riffs play for four minutes. This in itself isn't bad: the problem is that the riffs simply aren't good. The next part is a refreshing change, but, once again, it is repeated ad nauseam, with the only fluctuations in sound being made in rhythm. After that - oh look, back to the first riff, again, ad nauseam. But then, suddenly - out of nowhere! - a change. An entirely unrelated piece of music.

It's entirely simplistic and unable to communicate anything worthwhile.

@acidif666 ... Darkthrone is underground? what world do you live in? They were underground 20 years ago. MGLA is pretty underground though, as far as i know. I mean, this vinyl was only printed in 500 copies or so.. It's really hard to get now, unless they made more in the last 4 months.. Luckily i've got mine.

And Black Metal is not really about sounding angry or depressed, it's about whats IN the music, not the musical structure as such. You know.. Listening to the song instead of hearing it
