  • Its not just racism its much broader than that it comes down to anyone you don't want to serve (Color, Religion, Creed) which I believe in the basic Idea that if I don't like someone I have the right to tell them to get the hell out of my sight. If they happen to be a different color they play the race card and I get sued, that is a slippery slope. Rand is not a Racists.

  • Ambush by the media? He keeps saying its hypothetical and moot. The concern is NOT on the Civil rights Act. The concern is: would he condone a private business having a sign that says "no blacks allowed". He refuses to answer because he realizing he is facing a logical fallacy. Reasonable people don't believe Rand is racist, but in his ideology , he allows for racism in private business. He blames the media, but it is HE who is misleading the viewers by back-peddling from his gaffe. IMO

  • In other words...if the free-market was so great how come they always need regulation otherwise they do this and not have any safety mechanisms or preparation?

Explain how you can blame the government for not regulating when in the very first place that regulation is so vitally needed...it is because the 'free-market' doesn't care for SHIT about YOUR wellbeing. That's just the cold hard truth...call it socialist...call it what you will. The truth hurts.

  • @Staticnz The truth is you do not understand the free market. You should stop making assumptions and read up on the topic. I bet you still think that unfettered capitalism caused the current depression and evil monopolists ruled the 19th century and capitalism causes bad odor and racism. Please I've heard enough of it!

  • @truevoice08 not unfettered capitalism, I would call it unfettered corporatism.

However, whether or not unfettered capitalism was involved here, I still believe that it is a myth/fantasy that this would be the perfect system, as I think there would be many, many gaps and holes in the quality of such a system.

It would certainly be deficient in providing a range of services, from healthcare, to fire service, to roads, etcetera.

The best system is a hybrid, a mixture.

  • @Staticnz Assumptions, assumptions, assumptions... Nobody ever said pure capitalism is perfect. And your invoking of words 'gaps' and 'holes' reveals your worldview of thinking that society is like a machine, or that society is inherently chaotic, and therefore should be managed by a centralized power. And regarding this hybrid system, its exactly the system that we have had since early 20th century. What we have now is the result of your dream society.

  • @truevoice08 people claim that unfettered capitalism is perfect, they always, always say that the 'free-market' will sort itself out. I've got news for you, it never does. The market of course does good things, and creates innovation and many fine jobs for many people, but it will not concern itself with the welfare of the people if it hurts their profit margin...which is the point of government in the first place.

Folks like you conflate authoritarian government with responsible governance.

  • @Staticnz Well, I have a little suggestion to make. Before you start criticizing the free market for 'not working', maybe we should first try to HAVE ONE. We cannot have a free market where the state takes half of our income, fights 2 wars abroad, owns 1/3 of land, prints money like mad, ad nauseum. But I will concede a point for argument sake: free market is not practicable. Neither is 'responsible government'! Read Hayek's 'Road to Serfdom' or Bastiat's 'The Law'. In any case, YOU LOSE!

  • @truevoice08 there is a free market with no regulations and government ownership of resources...this free market is called Somalia. Maybe you should move there. I'm sure the terrible worker's conditions and raping of the landscape is more your style.

I'm sure that government should give up their national parks and reserves. I'm sure BP and co. will be responsible with them. Guffaw.

You have an extremist idea of how the world should be run. I'm a moderate.

  • @Staticnz I was a social democrat three years ago, naively campaigning for Obama AND I DON"T EVEN LIVE IN AMERICA for goodness sake! After 3 years of the troops still being in Iraq and the economy on the brink of depression I gave up on hoping that one day the right guy will be elected. Austrian economics and libertarianism gave me another worldview, one that actually made SENSE! If you read those books you will understand why my position is the sane one and social democracy is not.

  • @Staticnz Saying Somalia is a free market is too far off the mark to deserve an intelligent reply. BP is a crony and I support an investigation of what they have been doing in Iraq but for arguments sake, I am sure they can handle the parks better than the government.

  • @truevoice08 well it's funny if my reply isn't intelligent enough and yet you trust mega corporations to run national parks, which is fucking retarded.

  • @Staticnz I'm not trusting mega corps to run parks, I said I'd rather have useless plots of land to be transformed and create employment rather than have the government humiliate people by creating a tragedy of the commons, w/c is why parks are so dirty.

  • @truevoice08 I also get the distinct impression that you are an ideologue, mainly because you just say...'oh we don't have a free market and if we did everything would be peachy'. I dispute this...and I have no problem with theoretical books and explanations about these concepts, or discussing them...

But I have a problem with blindly assuming systems that haven't actually worked in practice, and have shown their flaws time and again, simply don't have those flaws just because you say so.

  • @Staticnz

Yes the truth does hurt and you are now seeing the end of socialism around the world with a full economic collapse. That is the price of Keynesian economics and the price of your distorted way of thinking. BTW what good is regulation if the regulators are not regulated, your system has systematically stole the regulation power from the people and I tell you now that these Angels who you think care so much about you are going to crack the whip very soon.

  • @Rjackman84 you must be joking if you think it is 'socialism' that has caused this global collapse.

But you may be right to some extent, that it is socialism for the rich. You know that a society always hinges on the strength of the middle class? Maybe not. The problem wasn't necessarily just lack of regulation, but the dearth of corruption rife throughout the system at every level.

I don't suscribe to any particular economic theory, I think they should just do what works.

  • I like Rand Paul but I'm not so enthusiastic about supporting him. He only won because he compromised on the libertarian position and got the support of the sellouts, the conservatives. Compromising on principle is one of the worst thing that could happen to a movement. Winning is irrelevant, integrity is.

  • Why doesn't someone ask Rand Paul if a white business owner exclusively wanted to sell to blacks, latinos , and asians would he support the government intervention? His position would remain the same. Don't believe the hype!

  • I admire Rand Paul's willingness to bow down before BP execs and declare any criticism of the corporation as "un-American."

  • go rand paul.we know how the media works

  • Rand has the charisma of Clinton and the demeanor of W. Neither are good signs. Still, worse candidates have been touted for 2012. I do think he should back off his Gulf oils spill statements. (La is my home, I'm biased.) Libertarians, I think, believe government serves only 2 functions: DEFENSE and protection from COERCION; both realistic ideals. A foreign entity is 'attacking' our coasts and coercing our people. Timely, yet old wisdom: "never put a fox in charge of the hen house."

  • Y'know, i don't have a huge problem with Rand Paul overall, as a guy, he seems like a nice fellow...

...but he's caused all of this himself by saying unnecessarily inflammatory and badly thought through things...

I mean on BP...'accidents happen'? Who could tell me that isn't a ridiculous thing to say?

  • @Staticnz I'm actually proud of him for saying that about BP. BP is a government crony and all (they were one of the Iraq oil field concessionaires), but with regards to the oil spill, BP was the biggest loser and the naive moralistic left want to stick it further down their throat. BP must pay damages but that is independent of all the hatemongering of the left.

  • @truevoice08 I'm curious as to how BP is the biggest loser by being severely under-prepared for a spill?

It's totally ridiculous how libertarians and co say 'the free-market will take care of it'...oh 'they'll have safety mechanisms ready because cutting corners is bad for business'.

THAT is NAIVE as HELL. Every SINGLE time you look at what happens they cut corners when they aren't being regulated. There is NO excuse for BP being so unprepared for this spill. You CAN'T blame regulators.

  • @Staticnz It still surprises me how so many people utterly misrepresent the libertarian position. Tell me how exactly regulation increases safety? Last time I checked, BP already was saddled with tons of regulation prior to oil spill. The only thing regulation does is add additional costs to BP. In a free market, BP would pay restitution since oil spill constitutes aggression on the property of others. The issue is totally independent of the excessive hatemongering and leftist agenda.

  • RAND is great

  • Our mass media would make Joseph Goebbels proud.

  • The day he was on with George/Good morning America....it sounds like

  • What date and time did this interview take place, please?

  • And here I was thinking FOX was the most bias network.

  • I admire Rand's candor and philosophical stances.

  • MSNBC Sucks.
