My Dad went to Harvard...back in 1976. He only took one AP and scored a three, and made diorama's for his school summer projects. Never did research, never started his own fortune 500 company, and he did average on the SAT's...but he went to HARVARD. Kids that are rejected today take 10+ AP's, conduct biomolecular research with pubs, and are Intel Semifinalists/Finalists.

I was accepted to Yale early (nonbinding), and WITHDREW my Harvard application because I would rather go to Yale. I have the greatest respect for the wonderful institution and its brilliant faculty and students, but I would just rather go to Yale. Most of these top schools are all amazing, and Harvard and Yale reject tons of kids with perfect apps. However, this video makes me upset; if a bunch of Bulldogs made this video and switched the names "Harvard" and "Yale" I would be horrified.

From what I've read and from what my friends in certain colleges have told me, the decisions are mainly based on who you are, as a person. Frankly, I think the AP gives you more room to develop your character and it may be even slightly easier to get straight 5's. The IB requires you to be absolutely committed to your studies and it is very hard to have straight 7's.
