O, man, rockgor, so jealous u saw it live! (did c her live in "Victor, Victoria" B'way - My NYU classmate, fab Adam Heller, played nightclub owner who fires her @ start -- 'membering now bit where leans WAAAY over side-to-side ("Buck. Palace") was imposs. - no correct fancy-trick-gravity shoes - but all these rest, yes, did do. -- Practised those umbrella trix SO ARDUOUSLY, while rest of friends/family spent Xmas in Fla. ... Bit w/ Rothschild on floor always so great for the tummy muscles!
I consider it the best solo piece of song n' dance poss. ever done. Julie = so great. (Well ... but yeah-) Genius. It reminds one of the magical Vesta Tilley - a Brit. Musical Hall genius star, turn-of-century - always in a tux - I found a DIFF. version of the song (diff. melody) w/ her on the cover.I still have all the props. (Got to make a better umbrella, obviously!) SUCH a joy to perform.
I did it live! Exactly move-4-move. In Phila. - 1991 - in my 1-woman show, "Shape" (Shakesp. sonnets & jazz songs). I desp. should've had it video'ed - Now I must re-learn all that tricky stuff (I'll do it though; now I'm inspired.) The WRETCHED UMBRELLA w/ the flag (which I paid a fortune for, tho' mostly hadda make myself) - exploded midway through the number - murder. The hat rolling onto the foot: 9/10 times it worked, in rehearsal. Of course, in perf., it was 1/10 time: it didn't.
It's true that Blake Edwards is not related to this movie. The director is Robert Wise. But anyway, thank you so much for posting that, even though it's on your TV.. I watch your video like 5 times a day ! :')
Well I don't know about that because the version of Star! that I own (well not own actually.. just have DVR'd on my TV =D) even states in the opening credits that the director is Blake Edwards....at leats I think.. although I was a little sleepy when I posted this video and I had been watching alot of Julie movies aswell so I'm probably confused! lol thanks though
Yes! It's a fantastic movie! Julie is amazing in it!!! The dance and music numbers are unbelievable! That movie should be as well-known as her other movie hits. I think her performance in "Star!" should have gotten her an academy award.
I'm sorry to say but your source of information is wrong, Blake Edwards did NOT direct or produce the movie Star!, it was Robert Wise, the same person who directed Julie in The Sound of Music! Fantastic movie, truly recommend it!

Have to come back and visit this number every now and then. Just look
at all the props Julie manipulates. Be hard to do this number live.
Actually, just remembered, I did see her do it live in Los Angeles
(it's posted on Youtube somewhere), but she didn't use all
those props.
She was like Mary Martin and Carol Channing. The magic just flowed
out to the audience.

I love this film. And Julie and Gertie and Noel too.
I read, however, that the film did not do well. It was even shown for a while with a different title. Something like "The Happy Time."
Well, even the biggest stars have flops, but it's
hard to figure out why this wasn't a success. It had great musical numbers.
Too bad Julie wasn't around during Hollywood's Golden Age. She should have
been born about 20 years earlier. Could have
starred in some of MGM's greatest films.
Tx 4 posting.
