  • Billy J Kramer? Naw,

How bout Freddy and the Dreamers. Who could forget the band's humorous dance to this song, as well as most of their songs. Go youtube it and smile.

  • Very underrated in her day. But she was a great singer.

  • so beautiful in every way

  • Such great memories. She was/is so talented and beautiful!

  • When "HULLABALOO" featured their "Top Pop" segment, the guest stars would, in turn, sing a few bars of someone else's current hit song (The Supremes, Peter & Gordon, Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs, Barbara McNair, and guest host Frankie Avalon also joined in the medley). This is from the May 11, 1965 edition...and yes, Peter Matz was the arranger/conductor of the "house band" on the show [his musical tastes were more "variety show" oriented than "pop"; he was later Carol Burnett's conductor].

  • what a natural and such an accomplaished sample of the song

  • swing age.....altho we miss her dearly Id imagine joanie was smart and got out of the biz...............I also think giglrocks is right, that does look like diana ross at an early age

  • I think you'll find it was Freddie and the Dreamers who sang this!!!

  • she,s such alooker im in love......

  • That looks like Diana Ross that's standing behind and to the left of Joanie Sommers, I bet my life on it

  • @undergroundbasement You're right!!!

  • Lovely version and a nice nostril shot too.

She definitely has a sound of her own.

  • Joanie Sommer was magic. Not sure why she was not a much bigger star. I definitely remember her lovely face and voice from th '60s.

  • yes joanie is very much alive, thank God! that video and her geogeous face is perfect, those kind are no more

  • is she still alive?

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! Joanie sure was a cutie pie! I remember all those 60's shows that presented young performers: "Shindig", "Hullabaloo", "Where the Action Is", "The Music Scene", etc. And that's in addition to the long running "American Bandstand" and "Ed Sullivan Show". THANKS for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us! May all your wishes & dreams come true in the New Year! :)

  • @JubalCalif I couldn't agree more. I never knew how great looking Joanie was.

  • Pity to cut off this production number

    half way through.

Looks like a dance interlude was

    about to commence.

Would love to see the whole number.

  • out of sync.

  • This is fantastic!

  • She was hot.Didn't know Joanie was so sexy.Get me a time machine.

  • Billy J Kramer never did this.

The original is by Freddie and the Dreamers.

It got to number 2 in the UK in 1963.

It didn't originally chart in the US but was reissued in 1965 and it got to number 1.

  • What magic. When they arrange the melody in this way, it's more like a pop standard, with some panache. I really like the Freddie and the Dreamers original, of course. But, Joanie matured into a real versatile singer, and this version sounds great.

  • Freddy and the dreamers did this song as well, never heard Billy Js version although I would love to.Joanie is so hot. What a sweet voice.

  • joanie sang so beautifully.

  • Is this the original version of the song? Wasn't it Billy J Kramer that did the other version or someone else? :S

  • No, Billy J had the original... this was part of a medley and this was the "cover song" they chose for Joanie or Joanie chose to sing. She could sing pop or jazz with ease, with a great unmistakable voice.

  • @BytteBob , the original is, from "freddie and the dreamers, heard it before.

  • @BytteBob I remember Freddie and the Dreamers making this a big hit in the 60's

  • 'Pretty sure that was from the Hullabaloo TV show (Mid 60's) arranged by Peter Matz.

  • I think it was Hullabaloo too. Check out Diana Ross to the left of Joanie in the beginning of the clip.

  • is that diana ross behind joanie?

  • Yes, Joanie was part of a "Beatles Medley" with The Supremes and Frankie Avalon. I'm not sure what show this was from...

  • @chuckbenjamin It was Hullabaloo

  • It's magic to see Joanie on the screen!!! Thanks for posting this, it's a fans' dream come true.

  • Joanie Sommers has a great voice. Thanks
