  • I need to add more; this is a celebration of the music, heartfelt and uplifting. Kleiber sees only the good in this, at the same time creating the edge and tension Beethoven clearly intended. This rendition is pure inspiration and no other conductors have, to date, recreated the atmosphere so wonderfully as Kleiber and this orchestra.

  • This is the definitive version; Karajan is plastic and mechanical, overly dramatic and self indulgent. Kleiber shapes and flows so instinctively, letting the melodies and parts imperceptible in other versions, spell out wonderful depths and simplicities in Beethoven's masterful writing. This is pure conducting genius.

  • exquisite baton technique, or perhaps lack thereof..... so fast.....??? Kleiber is mystery for them

  • furtwangler's version is the best one

  • So fast!

  • What exquisite baton technique, or perhaps lack thereof...?

  • Vielen Dank, Odeon2002.

    Bellissimo.

  • Mesmerizing. Divine.

  • Still so wonderful and completely absorbing.

  • I am still watching. I think this version is superb. I feel that CK's relationship with this orchestra gives him, and us, a very special feeling which is so vital and joyful, that I just cannot let it go....

  • I do hope more people discover this versio. It is quite amazing. It is quite different from the Amsterdam one. It is fantastic. There are some deltails that are so exppressive, not seen in the other, just fantastic.

  • I wish more people discovered this version, it is so worth watching, quite different form the Amsterdam one, I like it very much, I wonder if others notice the beauty of this. I find it quite amazing. Fantastic.

  • Odeon2002, please,of what yearis this?Is it 1986?I do find somenew emphasis in conducting, from the Amsterdam of 1983.I notice the amazing display of the two hands beating different rhythms,I think the left beats multiples at 4:11-4:18,also around 6, in the still beautiful other performance, not the same evidence.Three years difference could mean an evolution in his thought.Ambience, different orchestra would have their effect. It seems a more spirited performance this one. I feel more energy.

  • I feel same as berto41. Thanks to modern technology, some forward looking website, and the resourceful, knowlege and passion of those who post these marvels on. This time it really works. This second movement is magic. With new angles, a wonderful complement to the other version. Thank you all. Thank you Odeon.

  • Dear Berto41,I have the DVD of the Concertgebouw you mention. I will write to you, but it is a long story. I do see genius there, and I am utterly fascinated. I feel he is such a great 'servant' of classical music, and I love Beethoven so much, that whatever come from him of it is a gift, thanks to Odeon again. Anything better of the 5th? And I expect there is nothing of the two Schubert (3rd and 8th), apart from the CDs? Have you anything Odeon2002? Thanks so much for this anyway.

  • Thank you very much, this is wonderful foootage of the genius and the music he re-creates. I am looking forward too, to other nuggets you might have. Bless you. Thank you. I know your mov.4, but I just found thewe 1,and 2. Thank you so much.
