this is wonderful music indeed but it sure isn't sephardic. it's klezmer. i ADORE klezmer (and sephardic) music, and i'm not saying there is no cross-influence between them, but some of this (it's a medley) is stuff i've heard a lot of different folks play, and it's definitely klezmer -- the folk music of ashkenazic, not sephardic, jews.
g
p.s. that is not to say that the first part may not even have been adapted in a klezmer style from an originally sephardic tune.
I agree with the remark about the whisper to a fiery blaze. I'd love to know the name of these dances. And yes, the rhythm seems to specifically have the Bulgarian folk music lilt to it. Technically and emotionally exciting!!!
Are these pieces written on sheet music anywhere? Or is this passed on like most folk music - aurally? Tov meod! Toda!
I just love this song. And what to say about the musicians... All of them are more than great, but the fiddler drives me crazy. What a wonderful style... from merely whispers to a wild storm. Really astonishing !!
Love how the music seems alive, growing up and evolving troughout this beautiful masterpiece.
Fantastic, I love it! I am just studying Sephardic music and am trying to fuse this with bellydance. It would be lovely if you could show us the dance too that goes with this song!
You guys very good ones! Thank you!
